HTC EVO 4G :: Durability - Scratches On Their Screen?
Jul 6, 2010
Anyone having issues with scratches on their screen? Ive had my Evo about 3 weeks now and Im noticing several minor scratches. The only thing the scratches can be from is putting it in and taking it out of my left blue jean pocket. Also, the USB cable / phone connector seems a little flimsy. Anyone having issues with that too?

Are any of you guys worried about the durability of the screen? I've google'd about how people with the N1 have hairline cracks in their underneath and how HTC customer support does nothing about it. I currently have a Motorola Krave ZN4, and it is a pretty durable phone. Even though it is a flip phone, I've dropped my phone numerous times along with all my older phones and the display has yet to have a problem. Is the technology or material used with the N1/Inc/Desire more prone to these things?? Others have stated HTC responded by not putting the phone in the pocket.
I always put my phone in my pocket, will this be a no no now? I'm excited to get the phone and all the features but not sure about build quality.

There have been many wondering about the durability of the screen of the Eris. Does it need a screen protector? Is it easily scratched? Is it anything like the 'Gorilla Glass' that is used on the Droid?
The answers to these questions are yet unknown to most of us. We know the Droid's screen is impressively resistant, and that we like screen protectors.
After weeks of my Eris being naked (took off the screen protector and case), I began to worry, and think to myself, One of these times, I'm gonna scratch my screen. I know it.
I have much less fear now, after watching this.

I just picked up a epic and my wife got the evo I am still undecided on which one I want but am loving the epic so far it just seems to have a cleaner os and I love swype. My real question is how is the durability of the device like scratch resistance of screen and does the slider hold up well those are the things I am worried about.

These are mostly minor things, but it's only been a month. To be honest, I think the BodyGlove that I had on the phone for the first couple of months slightly distorted parts of the phone.
Why do I say that?
One, I have another thread about this, but the plastic edge that runs around the keyboard portion of the slider (it's like a rubber bumper, it runs over the USB port and around the rest of the phone) is a bit loose where the USB port is. Also, the screen seems a bit loose when the slider is closer. I can move the screen slightly side to side (don't know how to describe it), as if it's not quite locked into place.
I don't remember these being issues when I first got the phone, but I attached the BodyGlove about 2 hours after I got it so I really have no idea. But the slider fits together so tightly that I think the clasps that held the BodyGlove on the phone may have causes the phone to adjust slightly and now that I'm not using the BodyGlove any more that adjustment is causing looseness.

While looking at my screen in bright sunlight this morning, I noticed there are some light scratches that appear to be under the screen. I can only see them in direct sunlight or under a bright desk light while holding the phone at a certain angle. Is this at all normal? I just got the phone on Friday and noticed this immediately and haven't dropped it, pocketed it with keys, etc. I would think if the scratches were on the outside of the glass, they would be easier to notice. Would you send it back for a replacement?

Well my f'ing Honda key did it again! It got my Eris and now my Incredible. God I am so careful not to put anything in the same pocket as my phone but the one time I was out in board shorts and had to put them in there together all over my screen! I hate screen protectors because I LOVE the feel of the glass and hated my Droid with its Zaggs protector. Oh well I guess I have proof for anyone thinking these screens are scratch proof.

I've heard that the screen is like the HD2 and that thing does not scratch whatever you do to it, but what about the back? I've heard that the texture is the same as the Hero.

I'm considering getting a screen protector, but I'm also wondering how much it'll affect sensitivity/responsiveness. If I do get something to protect my phone, what is the best material/brand/manufacturer to go with? Or perhaps just a leather case would be enough? That way the screen stays perfect and it's still protected when I'm not using it.
After all, I heard the screen quality is pretty good. It's glass, or am I thinking of a different phone? It might not be a "Gorilla" screen like the Samsung Galaxy, but I've heard it's pretty resilient. I think it should be ok with just a leather case, unless anyone here's already got some bad experiences with the screen?

I was showing off my droid the other day and attempted to wow the audience by keying the scratch proof screen.Note that I do not have any screen protection yet. They were wowed allright but the next day I noticed very very faint scratches on my screen.I gave the screen a good rub with my shirt and they disappeared along with the smudges and dust so i didnt think anything of it.I just checked again a few min ago and I saw those same scratches imprinted in the dust and smudges that had gotten on the screen.I again gave it a good rub and they dissappeared but I'm starting to wonder how the heck is this even happening?

My Droid has a very small scratch on the screen. It's not bad enough to have a texture (I can't feel it if I rub my finger over it), but it does reflect the light in just a way that makes it fairly visible when a light background is displayed. I'm always very careful with my phone, and I have no idea how it got scratched.I've heard of numerous home remedy type fixes for screens, but some of them sound completely outlandish and some sound like they might damage the screen even worse. Is there any "real" way to fix it or am I stuck with the scratch? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for screen protectors? I've heard that lots of them mess with the touch screen or distort the picture. Are there any truly "good" screen protectors?

I used my Xperia X10 Mini Pro for a few dyas before I got myself a case or a screen protector. Unfortunately I picked up some minor scratches on the screen even though I was very careful! Can anyone suggest a way to remove the scratches? In the past I have used Displex but I not sure this should be used on a touch screen.

I've been using my X10 mini for 3-4 months now. The screen is already full of scratches (even with careful use), some are smaller, some are larger.Do you guys happen to have any suggestions on what products would be best (and in any case, not make things any worse) to polish the screen? Some products which can be found from Amazon or eBay would be great.I'm thinking of buying an invisibleSHIELD for the phone, but I'd like to have a scratch-free screen underneath it.Thanks Sony Ericsson for misguiding the customers with specifications promising a scratch resistant screen, while it obviously is just some soft plastic.

I (think) that I am going to purchase the HTC Aria but have gotten cold feet reading about the screens breaking. Can anyone comment on the screen durability with a case attached or a skin applied to the Aria. I'm hoping that if I purchase the phone and get a good case, or "skin" it, the glass would have a lot less chance of breaking if I drop it, which I surely will do.

How exactly is the speaker on the Samsung Captivate? I'm with an iPhone 2G and I think things sound louder with headsphones+max volume than the iPhone's speaker. Like, the only way I can hear a song outloud with a few others is if we're not near anyone or anywhere outside or making any noise. I mean, it's the most fail I've probably seen on phone in terms of a speaker. That being said, I'm hoping the Captivate has a decent speaker?
Also, durability? I've dropped my iPhone 2G at least, with no exaggeration, 30 times, and yeah, it's holding up. Backs filled with more scratches than anything, the bottom plastic is starting to tear up a little, but other than that, it's working and not broken. Will I survive with the Captivate?
I'm going to be trialing the iPhone 4 for a month or so via my dad and his workplace's offer, and yeah, within the next month, I'm going Captivate or i4...Hopefully, works well, since I've only stayed a year with almost all of my phones (except the iPhone 2G, which was three years =0...gotta love that app store). I'm really hoping Samsung comes out with some GPS fix, too, because my directions fail and I'm hoping to substitute my phone for a GPS...I've managed to work with it on the iPhone 2G via cell tower positioning/wi-fi+google maps for now, but yeah, I don't think I'd like a phone that shows me on the wrong street.

I canceled my order for a seidio innocase II because of the thread that showed that the case caused scratches on the phone. I want to keep my evo in pristine condition and want something that won't scratch it and that I can get in less then a weak. I saw the active seidio case on amazon but shipping estimates are 3-4 weeks from now and that just won't happen. I know I will probably have to go with a silicon case and I'm ok with that.

This thread is for people like me, who ARE NOT using screen protectors. Just wondering if anyone in this forum has any scratches on their Captivate screen and if so, from what? I've had my Captivate since the beginning of August and do not have one scratch on the screen. Feel free to share your stories.

Having owned the droid for one day I already have a scratch on the plastic/metal? the side where you plug in the USB. Underneath there are a bunch of scribbles when I tried to plug it in the dark. Also the rubber on the back of the device... the rubber strip that is on top of the camera also has a noticeable tear. I have done nothing to the device except keep it in a clean pocket that had nothing else in it. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Seems like solid build quality with the internal hardware well protected but I worry it can easily be cosmetically damaged.

I wanna start out by saying I love my droid but on thing that bugs the crap out of me is the finish on the top of the thing. It looks nice and polished for a few weeks but then it starts to chip like crazy. The screen is holding up perfectly its just the corners of the bezel. I think they should have gone wth a matte or aluminum finish or even the soft finish like on the battery cover.

I bought a new original shell to change for my old one which have scratches. Now I realize I need some special screwdrivers to release the phone from the shell.
I don't have to mention what I think of this madness but does anyone know what types of screwdrivers I need or will I really have to send it in for service?

I'm very happy with my new smartphone, the Galaxy S from Samsung . I don't use any protection for the screen, so i wipe out the "fingerprints" with something to make it nice and shiny! However i did use, several times, paper tissues. Big mistake. If i hold down the phone in bright light, i see tiny scratches on the surface .
So only use cloth and nothing less if you don't use protection, but NEVER use paper tissues!

There are some minor scratches in the window that the camera lens uses to take pictures on the battery cover. Even if I don't get all of them (some MIGHT be too deep, its hard to tell whether my fingernail catches or not in that little area), it would still be better if I could get some of them out. Any way I can do this without harming the lens even more? The scratches are on the outside of the cover, btw, not the tiny circle opening on the inside.

I am designing a home screen widget. I ran this widget on a HTC Hero device, which has a screen of 320 pixels * 480 pixels with mdpi. It ran perfect on HTC Hero. The widget takes 3 cells * 2 cells space, i.e. 240 pixels * 200 pixels. Then I ran this widget on a Nexus One device, which has a screen of 480 pixels * 800 pixels, mdpi. Since Nexus One also is mdpi, so I though 240dip is equivalent to 240 pixels on Nexus One and 200dip is equivalent to 200 pixels on Nexus One, so the widget will not take 3 cells * 2 cells space on Nexus One device. To my surprise, when running on Nexus One device, the widget take exact 3 cells * 2 cells, about 360 pixels * 300 pixels, on Nexus One device.I am confused. The layout xml above specifies 240dip in width and 200dip in height for the widget, but why did it take 360 pixels * 300 pixels on Nexus One Device? What am I missing?

anyone have this problem w/ the moment whereby your face touches the screen and causes accidentally pressed keys, things to move on screen, etc. associated w/ touching the screen? I think I remember this happening once or twice on the moment but admittedly, I don't use it much so not sure if the lock screen was on, screen was off, etc. Just looking to see if anyone if affected by this or if it's a known problem.

I have the screen timeout set to 1 min which works fine until I use the phone. When using the phone the screen times out (and locks) in about 5 seconds. This is a real pain when using voicemail etc and you need to interact with the keypad.
