HTC Droid Eris :: Screen Durability - Protector?
Feb 3, 2010
There have been many wondering about the durability of the screen of the Eris. Does it need a screen protector? Is it easily scratched? Is it anything like the 'Gorilla Glass' that is used on the Droid?
The answers to these questions are yet unknown to most of us. We know the Droid's screen is impressively resistant, and that we like screen protectors.
After weeks of my Eris being naked (took off the screen protector and case), I began to worry, and think to myself, One of these times, I'm gonna scratch my screen. I know it.
I have much less fear now, after watching this.

What brand of screen protectors do you all like? I've heard people talking about Zagg, Wrapsol, and Phanton Skinz, but which is the best? Preferrably would like one that is not very "grippy" and has as little orange peel effect as possible.

I can't find any posts that actually have comparison pictures. I've read reviews but need to see physical evidence that one is better then the other. I'm annoyed with the constant finger prints whipping, so I'd imagine that anti-glare would be the preferred choice. Then again I don't know what the contrast will look like afterward. This is my dilemma

I have an Otter box Commuter for my Eris, and I love it. My one question is about the screen protector. Recently my trackball failed, and Verizon is sending me a replacement Eris. How can I take the screen protector off, and not damage it for use on the new one? Is this possible?

These are mostly minor things, but it's only been a month. To be honest, I think the BodyGlove that I had on the phone for the first couple of months slightly distorted parts of the phone.
Why do I say that?
One, I have another thread about this, but the plastic edge that runs around the keyboard portion of the slider (it's like a rubber bumper, it runs over the USB port and around the rest of the phone) is a bit loose where the USB port is. Also, the screen seems a bit loose when the slider is closer. I can move the screen slightly side to side (don't know how to describe it), as if it's not quite locked into place.
I don't remember these being issues when I first got the phone, but I attached the BodyGlove about 2 hours after I got it so I really have no idea. But the slider fits together so tightly that I think the clasps that held the BodyGlove on the phone may have causes the phone to adjust slightly and now that I'm not using the BodyGlove any more that adjustment is causing looseness.

Anyone having issues with scratches on their screen? Ive had my Evo about 3 weeks now and Im noticing several minor scratches. The only thing the scratches can be from is putting it in and taking it out of my left blue jean pocket. Also, the USB cable / phone connector seems a little flimsy. Anyone having issues with that too?

Are any of you guys worried about the durability of the screen? I've google'd about how people with the N1 have hairline cracks in their underneath and how HTC customer support does nothing about it. I currently have a Motorola Krave ZN4, and it is a pretty durable phone. Even though it is a flip phone, I've dropped my phone numerous times along with all my older phones and the display has yet to have a problem. Is the technology or material used with the N1/Inc/Desire more prone to these things?? Others have stated HTC responded by not putting the phone in the pocket.
I always put my phone in my pocket, will this be a no no now? I'm excited to get the phone and all the features but not sure about build quality.

I just picked up a epic and my wife got the evo I am still undecided on which one I want but am loving the epic so far it just seems to have a cleaner os and I love swype. My real question is how is the durability of the device like scratch resistance of screen and does the slider hold up well those are the things I am worried about.

Also what is the best case for the motorola droid? Lastly, when I make phone calls my screen goes black so it is hard for me to end calls. How can i fix this? I don't see any settings for this on the droid.

So I recently got a set of screen protectors and put one on.All was well just noticed a few bubbles and so I tried to work them out. They weren't going away, so I figured I would try again so I removed it and to my astonishment the bubbles were still there. It's like they formed under the screen somehow when I put the protector on, they were absolutely not there before. There are 2 in the center of the screen and a few along the edges. At first I just thought it was a water spot but I cannot wipe them off.The ones on the edge of the screen I can"push out" to the edge to almost make them disappear. When you touch them with the pads of your fingers you can feel a slight "bump" in the screen (very minute but still there). They bubbles are easily visible when the screen is off and almost go away when the screen is on but you can still tell they are there. Is this a defect in the phone or did I cause this trying to install the protector? I didn't push down hard on the screen, just applied the protector and they appeared.

I'm currently using the phantom skinz line and although I like the body protectors I think the screen protector has reduced some of the screen's clarity/sharpness. This wasn't an issue with the static protectors I got from verizon. The only reason I replaced the verizon ones is because they didn't cover the buttons along the bottom of the screen. Anyone find a static protector they like that covers the whole screen?

I know this has probably been answered a bunch of times. What is the best screen protector to buy? I've heard good things about Ghost Armor and Steinheil protectors. Out of those two, which is the better screen protector?

I have had an Invisible Shield on my droid since I got it. There were a few pieces of dust under it that have been driving me crazy so I decided to take it off. What a difference! It looks better, feels more responsive to touch, and it is a lot smoother when I use pinch to zoom (no friction between my finger and the screen). I am paranoid that I'm going to scratch the screen but the trade off is worth it.

I bought the Droid Screen Protectors (came in a three pack) from Verizon, and I really don't like them. Every time I touch the phone, it leaves a finger print or a smear mark where I dragged my finger, and i don't really like the texture it adds to the screen. (Maybe I applied it wrong?)Just curious who is using a screen protector, and furthermore if you are, what screen protector are you using?

As a previous iPhone user I can attest to the quality of screen protectors from Power Support. The matte finish one I used on my iPhone (and the most popular for the iPhone) never detracted a bit from the display clarity and it actually made the display more slippery to the touch. These are the screen protectors they sell in all the Apple sotres. Power Support saidtThey say they're working on one for the Motorola Droid.

I want to buy an screen protector for the Droid, i usually get invisible shield for everything, but after reading few threads here, there has been couple of members on this forums unhappy with it. So those of you that have an screen protector on your droid, what are you using? r u happy with it? I have tried Wrapsol, and i ended up taking it off right away and going to return it back for an refund because after putting it on, i saw alot of haziness on the screen and it drove me nutz, i don't know if i should have waited for the next day to see if it goes away but it did not look right.

I don't like the fact that dust and crap gets on my phone case every time I put it in my pocket. I'm using the standard case the phone came with from Verizon. I was wondering if there's any case that is like the rubber one, but without the constant need to blow of the dust and lint that attaches itself to the phone Not sure if this is the same. I know it's a jelly case, but I haven't the slightest idea what the differences are between that and the one I have. YouTube - Amzer Screen Shield Installation On HTC Droid Eris

Two weeks ago I got the Clarivue ultra-clear screen protector and wrote a review which can be read here. I wanted to try the anti-glare version so I e-mailed Clarivue and they happily exchanged my ultra-clear for an anti-glare version. They sent me the anti-glare version first so that my screen could remain protected in agreement that I would send back the ultra-clear protector. So now this review will cover Clarivue's anti-glare screen protector. Packaging was the same as the ultra-clear protector, so I will not post pictures of the package, only pictures of the protector on the phone. Two different backgrounds so that you can compare the color and contrast with the protector on. I apologize for the blurriness of the second picture.
The application process: Application of this product was still very simple. This time around, however, I applied the protector while the hot water from my shower was steaming my bathroom. It helped with the dust a bit though I still managed to get two little pieces in there. I easily got rid of them with some tape.
Fit:...............
