Having a little trouble with my music/podcast management, primarily because of my Bluetooth connections. I have the stock music app for my music, and then Doggcatcher for my podcasts. Unfortunately, this causes confusion when I am pausing and playing via Bluetooth - both apps will start playing, or one app will play and the other will pause...
It would be mostly solved if Android would give priority to the focused application when responding to Bluetooth commands (so I could just open the app I want and then it would act normally), but unfortunately, such is not the case.
Is there any kind of good music app out there that does good podcast management? I don't need much, just the ability to download podcasts on demand, and remember how much of the podcast I've listened to.
Suggestions? DoubleTwist claims to do this, but I have to connect to the computer to sync, which I think is friggin' stupid. I just want to be able to do everything OTA.

I am new to android phones. I see the Facebook app in system, I can update it and start it from a third party (e.g. Play Store) but am unable to find the app itself and make shortcuts for it. I tried uninstalling (it does so only with the updates, it won't erase the app itself because it is integrated with the Jelly Bean), reinstalling (again, only applies to the updates), trying to find its shortcuts in home screens and main menu.
I am just a step away from master reset.

I've been trying to get my progress bar view to work in my file scanner application, and I'm thoroughly stumped by the proper combination of Activities, Services, Threads, and Handlers. Here's the structure: My Activity contains a Horizontal-styled ProgressBar. On menu item click, I spawn a Service which, onCreate(), which is where I want to be able to update the progress bar. what am I missing?.............

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to debug a mix of Java and native code? Please notice, that I am NOT trying to develop a native app. The app will be written entirely in Java, using Android SDK. However, I noticed that some pieces of the SDK use native methods (e.g. AssetManager, WebKit, etc). I wonder which tools Google developers use if/when they need to debug a mix of Java and C/C++ code? Eclipse/gdb or there are commercial tools which make the debugging experience less painful?

I've looked all over and I couldn't find any posts regarding this, but are there any music programs that allow you to use a hardware button to advance a track? For example, in my BB Curve I could hard press the volume up button to move to the next track, and hard press the volume down to go back a track (without even looking at it or taking it out of my pocket)...
I dig the stock Hero music app the best I think out of Mixzing, Rockon, Wikitunes, or whatever - mostly because it is in the lock screen where I can advance to the next tune without having to swipe in first...
But its still a pain in the neck, when I'm on a running on a treadmill to pick up the phone and hold it up and press the correct button on the glass, as opposed to just reaching in my pocket and pressing a hardware button like I could on my BB Curve, or any other MP3 player...

Ive been searching around to find either a gallery or an app that would show me my dropbox videos and pics in the gallery without copying them tovthe device.
I have a samsung galaxy s3 i9300 and a dropbox account. But would like to see my dropbox photos in the gallery.
Ive used foldersync from the market but that just copys the files across so not what im looking for.
Ive heard that the note 2 has this function and also htc sense.
Another thing to note is that the main reason i am reasearching this is because i am making the move to the nexus 4 so would have to work with that.

I just got my motorola droid.
I don't want my contacts and my calendar to be synched with google online. i would like to them to live solely on my phone (and one of my computers if necessary).
Secondly, it would be great if there were an all-inclusive app that drew on your contacts to post, say, a contact's birthday directly to your calendar, and also allowed you to use that contact's information to dial them up on the phone, msg them, email them, etc.
Does anyone know of such an application(s) for the android operating system that does not require you to post your personal contact and calendar information out on the internet?
I have access to both windows xp and mac os x v 4.11, if a computer is required to sync with.

So as far as I understood things, Gingerbread was supposed to be released yesterday. Apparently not. But I'm sure it's coming pretty soon. Does anyone have any idea when they're releasing it? Moreover, how do we get it, is it sent out or do we have to find it ourselves?

I dont know how many people just read the article on engadget (Android 3.0 Gingerbread getting revamped UI, Froyo living on for lower-end phones? -- Engadget) but it seems as though not many, if any, current phones will be making the cut for gingerbread (android 3.0) and also that we're going to be seeing many new crazy high-powered phones being released this fall and winter (consisting of bigger screens, faster processors, 1280by760 resolution!). So my question is do you think Evo will make the cut for android 3.0 or will it be obsolete compared to what is on the market by this Christmas (regardless of whether it gets 3.0 or not)

We've all been saying Android's next version, Gingerbread will be 3.0. But, new evidence suggests it is not 3.0.
Gingerbread is Android 2.3 » BriefMobile
Android Gingerbread is likely version 2.3 as a Google engineer on the Security Team called it 2.3 in a support response on Google's code site for Android.
Also, his response to the guy's support indicates that the Nexus One will indeed receive the upgrade! Not that we thought it wouldn't, but confirmation is always nice.
Think it is 2.3, 2.5, or 3.0?

Google brought more language support to Android with Gingerbread. How do I use it? the only indication of Arabic support is that, when I get a text message in Arabic, it shows the letters in Arabic, but not connected to each other the way they should be.What I want is to make everything Arabic, not just messages received in Arabic.

Well I am working on beagleboard-xm project, where I am supposed to upgrade the current Android version to ICS. The thing is, I have to keep the current kernel , because it is customized for some applications that run on that board. It is not me that compiled that kernel...
Is it even possible to keep the "old" kernel and upgrade to ICS? Can it be done in any way? Or a new kernel with new patches has to be installed...?

I've have recently upgraded my Galaxy S from Darky Rom v10.2 to Cyanogen Mod 9 (ICS).. Absolutely EVERYTHING is better...
Except....
The contacts application (both dialer and 'people') that comes with ICS is not as good as the Gingerbread versions. Obviously the ICS versions look prettier but with the older versions you could:
- swype left on a contact to message (brilliant)
- swype right on a contact to call (brilliant)
- easily access the contacts app from within the dialer via the tabs at the top
My question is... is it possible to use the gingerbread versions of the contacts and dialer apps on ICS... if so, HOW?
