Can someone help me to track whats starting my Auto Sync. I get the "Sync Icon" all the time. I have to go into Account and Syncs and select "Cancel Sync" to remove the icon. I dont have auto sync enabled. I would like to know if there is a way to track whats accessing that feature. I have full Systempanel and Logcat but what should i be looking for? Would it be like weather widgets?

I have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
I've set up an email account on my mini pro (NOT gmail or exchange) and it all works fine updating my inbox manually , however, I cant find any settings to automatically retrieve my emails periodically ( as far I can see auto sync refers to gmail or sony sync or road sync for exchange). Is there any way to auto sync an individual email account ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI loaded ATK onto 2.1 which tells me that more apps are running than the built in proc manager does. So I killed everything except clock. Put the phone to sleep, and came back an hour later to find that Clock, Voice Dialer, MP3 Store, Settings, Shopper, Google Voice, Mail, Messages, chompSMS, and Handcent are all running.
Now, I have sent/received a few texts, so that'd explain the messages, chomp and handcent (still screwing with figuring out which one I want, but only Chomp is set to notify).
This is the third time I've done this today, so can confirm it's no accident. I have never used the MP3 app, don't even have any music on the phone, so no idea why that or for that matter, Voice Dialer, Shopper, or Mail are even running. I've never launched any of them.
I use the app called "System" and it lists about a dozen apps that are stored in my cache or that are using memory when I have not innitiaited the service or app...
I'm most familiar with computers so I'll relate it to that; is there some type of command line that I can use to stop some of these apps from auto start and being stored. For instance on windows you can 'msconfig' what programs are allowed to start on boot up.
Here is a list of apps that I want to stop: AccuWeather.com, Android Booster, Google Voice, HeyTell, Amazon's Appstore, Market, Music, etc.
Most are cached/ inactive but none the less in my task manager when freeing up memory when I notice things to be lagging I'd imagine these to be guilty. Android Booster always lists these as killed apps as well when optimizing...
Im familiar somewhat with how android works being that it often fills a large portion of your memory with what it wants to and frees space as it is needed but these apps for me are rarely used...
Im big on battery life being Im in and out of Sales accounts and rely on my phone heavily so I dont want these things running in the background sucking up resources. Not to mention I like a snappy phone...
Also, I know their are app freezers and applications you can program to kill apps at a set interval but again I would like the least amount of garbage running as I can .....

I am using 2.3.4 and facing critical memory outage (in my galaxy S plus), reason being most of those applications I install keep on running in the background, when i kill them using some (Task Killer) they automatically kicks off and restart themselves again.
Is there anything like services (the way we have in windows) which i need to stop to restrict them to run automatically and at startups. I am new to Android.
I just got an evo 4G and it is annoying that all my useless Sprint programs and their partners' programs. So I am interested in finding a way to.prevent them starting and not using up memory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI decided tonight that i was going to try and start using my google account on my desktop synced with my phone.
So...i had all of my contacts saved too the phone rather than too my google account (choosed the option to save to phone when adding a new contact initially because i was unsure how google worked)
I couldnt for the life of me see how to switch this contact over to my google account from the phone so i had to save all contacts too sim individually then had to "import from sim card" and created the new contacts under my google account. This left me with the contacts on my phone saved too google contacts and when going on a contact now in the top right hand corner it says linked and there is 2 circles with a green link between them.
Previously it just said phone and had no green link These contacts however are not showing up in google when i sign in on my desktop. Also, on my phone, when i go to menu > view (when in the people application) if i uncheck all boxes and check google (51) no contacts show up.
However if i check also the sub heading saying "Show auto Gmail contacts" then they show up :S Ive just added a new contact and clicked the option save contact too google when i initially created it. This contact does not say linked but just says google at the top and is also the only contact showing up when i just check the google box and not the sub box. Im also using jorte calender which i thought was compatible but nothing from that seems to have gone onto my desktop calendar when signed in to google?
I've been experimenting with the Android SDK over the past few days, in readiness to write an App for the store, however I've run across a bit of a problem.
The App I'll be writing requires that the user has a Google account associated with the phone. Retreiving and making use of the Auth token etc was not a problem, however I would like to be able to show the activity that a user would normal reach by going through the menus Settings->Accounts->Add Account.
Now through experimentation I've been able to launch this activity from the shell using the following command. am start -n com.google.android.gsf/.login.AccountIntroActivity
I'm having trouble performing the same action in JAVA using the Intent class.
Would anyone be able to tell me firstly whether or not this can be done via JAVA, and secondly how I could go about it please?
If I have to settle for the Sync Settings screen then I will (this can be achieved through the Settings.ACTION_SYNC_SETTINGS intent), however it'd be quite nice to be able to direct the user straight to the required screen.
I have the kill app program, but that doesn't work automatically. The best way is to kill the unnecessary apps that load when the phone starts and persistently load themselves at intervals.Is there a way or an apk to download to select the apps that we allow to auto-run? All without rooting, if at all possible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 gmail accounts. Unfortunately, one of them is for my calendar and contacts and the other is for my personal e-mail. As of now, my cal and contacts are syncing fine but I do not use the e-mail account that is associated with thier username. I have my other account (personal e-mail) set up sepeartely....along with a few other e-mail accounts(work and etc.). I would like to know if i can leave my cal and contacts setup on the regular droid sync account but change the e-mail account to my personal acct. so it will "push" by default with out having it in a seperate palce on the droid. I know this is confusing but i dont know how else to explian it.

I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

Quick question though: I do not have a data plan therefore my emails are not constantly syncing and such. I was wondering if there is an application that would make my wifi turn on at a set time and for a set length of time in order to fetch and sync and then turn off. This would be very useful especially in the morning right before I wake up so that when I first pick up my G1 in the morning the new emails have been synced.

I configured my email account so that it only manually syncs, but when i open the widget it already does that. Do you have any opinions or ideas about how to solve this issue?
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing the FaceBook (FB) app on the EVO 4G is a great feature. Allows you to get numbers of your friends on FB without being in your contact list. Has their FB picture show up when they call etc.
Problem:
Cannot save numbers in my contacts if sync'd with FB.
Example: Friend gives me her number (that I currently do NOT have in my contacts)
I dial her number, it comes up with her name and her FB picture (because she has her mobile number linked to her FB account).
Now I cannot save this number to my contacts from call history because it shows up as if it is already there. I can dial her number again then hit add contact and that works just curious if there is a way to do it from text's or call history so I don't have to keep re-typing the number just to save it.
I have HTC Sync on my PC and suddenly its not auto-syncing when I connect my phone.Opening it up on my PC and it just says Disconnected, similiarly through the Hero.Can't think its anything to do with anti-virus etc. as I synced a week ago with my works PC (Outlook calendar).

The gmail and google calendar auto sync fine, but whenever I add a contact I always have to do a manual sync on the phone to get the contact from my pc to phone or vice versa. I'm looking to copy selected albums to my phone but during the sync process I'd like them to be re-encoded to a lower bit rate so I can fit more on the phone. I'd like this done during the sync so I don't have to keep a second, lower bitrate copy of everything.WMP12 claims to be able to do this but, not surprisingly for a piece of Microsoft software, it doesn't actually work so I'm looking for something else that can do it. Is there anything else out there?Also, nearly all media managing software constantly just refers to syncing "playlists". I don't ever use playlists as I tend to listen to whole albums in order so I select artist then album, no need for a "playlist". Can I use these things to copy across whole albums without the need to create a playlist of that album and use that to sync?

I've searched through this forum but can't seem to find anyone else reporting this.I've had a G2 for approx 3 weeks now, however, the thing just won't sync Gmail as it should - either via Auto-sync or by manually trying. I've had a G1 for the last 12 months so feel experienced enough to know when something's not quite right. I am using the G2 in exactly the same locations as the G1 so it cannot be a reception issue. I've tried sending test emails from my work email address to my Gmail account: Out of the 10 test emails sent over the space of 8 hours, only 2 came through (the G2 was on Auto-Sync the whole time). The others eventually came through via a combination of manually instigating Sync (1 success) or, in most cases, having to switch the phone off and on - even this only worked twice. Whenever I sent emails from work to G1 they would appear on the phone instantly. There isn't a prob with the emails leaving my work domain as I can see that they have all been delivered successfully viewing my Gmail account over the web. If I leave the phone on the Data Synchronization screen, the round sync indicator is constantly running next to "Google Mail" and intermittantly pauses with the error message that "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shorlty". have also found that the reception doesn't appear to be as good as the G1 - I work in central London and live 10 miles south of the river.I'm running FW 1.5 Kernal 2.6.27-a5504199 Software 1.0.0.A6288

I also have ATT email (my home DSL accounts) and I am able to use the Android email program effortlessly there - I can set to auto check 15, 30, hourly etc with no problem. Is there an option to do the same with Gmail? All I can find is to auto sync Contacts, Gmail and calendar. Since one time google ate my calendar and contacts, I'm a little hesitant to ever sync them again.

I ask for general knowledge, but also because I'm curious if my Dictionary.com Word of the Day widget (or even the app itself) is updating itself every day, even though I don't use the widget on my homescreens (and the app hasn't been opened in a while either). But Dictionary.com is always listed in the running programs list.
I turned off the notification when I went to sleep so I wouldn't wake me up every 10 minutes. Now the Gmail has to be manually refreshed. How do I get the phone to auto sync with gmail again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving issues on our phones to where the Lotus Notes Traveler application will not notify the user that there is new mail until he/she "wakes" up the phone by pressing the power button on. It only happens after the phone has been on for a day or so.Once the power button is pressed that turns the screen on, tons of new mail will come in. Almost like that it doesn't see a data connection until it is turned on.SMS messages and phone calls work fine. "Always On Mobile Data" is set to ON.Also, everything in the application is set to 'Sync all the time'Any ideas what it could be? It seems that the data connection is not notifying the phone until the screen gets turned on.
