I was at the Newark Airport yesterday and got 4G. Averaged 5700 down and 1075 up. Signal was 2-3 bars but did not extend into Newark or south into Elizabeth. Signal only on exit 13a on NJ Turnpike.

(Don't get excited like I actually know what I'm doing, I followed directions on this website.) Also I unplugged the Airport and plugged it back in.

I've been having the same WiFi connectivity issues mentioned by other people. With my Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual Band, I couldn't even run the Speedtest app to completion more than once or twice before the X would drop the connection.
Other people have mentioned that it seems to be related to 802.11n - that 802.11g access points weren't having issues.
Many people with Airport's aren't aware that you can configure the radios in a much more fine-grained fashion than is immediately obvious. You can set it up so that it runs 802.11n only on the 5Ghz band, and 802.11g on the 2.4Ghz band.
To do so, start up the Airport Utility, then go to the "Wireless" tab. There's a drop-down for "Radio Mode", which normally only shows three radio options.
On a Mac, hold down the Option key ( Presumably Alt on Windows ), and THEN click Radio Mode. You'll see about a dozen new options.
I chose "802.11n only ( 5 Ghz ) - 802.11 b/g"
This should ensure that clients that have have 5Ghz receivers still get the benefit of having the high speeds from 802.11n, but that 2.4Ghz clients see only a B/G access point.
After making this change, my X has NEVER dropped the Wifi signal. I've run literally dozens of Speedtest checks and it works every time.
So, if you have an Airport Dual Band, you might want to try it out. People with other AP's should see if theirs offers equivalent functionality.
I have a new Droid Incredible. I am trying to get it set up, configured, etc., and was trying to connect to my home WiFi network. I have an airport express (in bridge mode) connected to a router. The router is connected to my cable modem via ethernet, and also connected to my Mac desktop via ethernet. My Incredible can see my home network, but when I try to connect it hangs at the "acquiring IP address" stage and eventually fails. I know my phone is functional, because it connects fine to the wireless network at work. I know my home network is fine, because I can connect to it via my laptop no problem. I'm sure there is some setting that I am messing up, but I'm pretty naive about networking issues.

I am in Extended Network, and the only reason I agreed to get the phone is the salesperson said I could connect to my home computer router..I have searched the internet for hours, and tried different things, but I'm CLUELESS!

My issue is that I get NO bars at work near DFW Airport. Iv updated the PRL and the latest maint release but the thing still doesn't connect while at work. Any idea for fixing the sensitivity so I can make calls at work? I am sooo tied of hearing the ?Lack of Signal beeps? all day long. Vz droid my co-worker has is solid 4-3 and he laughs at me as he says it must be his coverage map blocking my signal.

I didn't have the Moto droid and I'm not really sure how kernels work, only how to install them and how to use them. But the moto droid has a 500 mhz processor and has been oced to 1.2 ghz! Thats a massive improvement. My point is why have we only been able to oc by .19 ghz or mhz however you would denominate that?

If I set my EVO down right next to it (running CM6 nightlies), I am getting almost no signal and DL speed of only 1.5 mbps. Ok, not to ask a stupid question, but since they are both on N, why is my computer getting so much better signal and faster download?

Surfing the web on the X is too slow. Anyone else considering getting rid of the X for something faster? I am at about 74db signal strength and 4 bars.

One thing I did was having 2 different views, constantly calling invalidate() on the foreground view. Another was to have only 1 surfaceview, redrawing the background image and the foreground on each step of the animation.
While a surfaceview offers an optimal way to do heavy-duty animation, having to redraw the background every time kills the performance. Neither produced a smooth animation. What is the best way to perform this kind of animation - static background and animated foreground?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just ran a speed test on my 4g in york pennsylvania with one bar and i had 342kb/s. i did not realize how fast it really was. even thought the upload speed for some reason drops to like 50 some. my 3g speeds average is around 150 with a similar upload speed. WOW am i too excited or is this incredible for a phone? also my friend at work just texted me and claims his GayPhone4 is faster than mine we shall find out when i get there.
