Nov 10, 2010I currently have the Samsung Galaxy (I7500). I have it for a year+ now. A couple of months ago I wanted to buy the Desire, but I decided its too early for an upgrade (big mistake). It's very hard for me to keep waiting for the perfect device since I hate my galaxy so much. So my question is which phone would you recommend?
IPhone 4 no way ofcourse, Samsung Galaxy S no way cause Samsung really screwed things up with the original galaxy (and it has no Flash), which leaves me with HTC Desire HD or Desire Z. The DHD has an extremely weak battery, and I want my next phone to last a day (moderate user). So, is the Desire Z worth the money? The things that bother me with the Desire Z are:
1. Weight - It weigh 180 grams! Thats sick, way too much. (the Desire is about 135, which isn't light, but not heavy either)
2. Battery life - I'm not sure how long does it last under moderate usage.
3. Size - its quite big, and its especially because of the keyboard, which I don't really need / care about.So, Whats your opinion?

Jan 26, 2010Which battery widget do you fellow Eris users use? I saw that HTC made one, but I've been using the one that mPippin developed since I got my phone. It's nice that it monitors the battery and lets me turn on/off WiFi, GPS and BlueTooth or change my display options from one press.

Dec 22, 2009I'm trying to figure out if I should ask verizon for a new battery. My eris battery life last me a full day, but my battery drops to 85% within the first hour after my phone is removed from the charger. The battery than dies slower from that point on. I figure this may be a bad battery or bad meter. Is there a way to calibrate the battery meter?

Jan 13, 2010My Eris, just updated on Monday for the lock up from sleep Anyway, I am a low user of the phone and keep, wifi, Mobile data off unless I am using it I have noticed the last 2 days the battery life is improved. yesterday, phone on at 6am off at 11pm, 65% left, no data used, few Txt messages and about 45 min of phone calls Today so far, on at 6am, WIFI, Mobile data off, one 6min call and one txt, at 9am, still 100% battery. turned Mobile Data on at 9am now it is 11:50am and battery is still 100% my on time is 5:45, awake time is 8 min (2%) this is typical for me. I don't have email set to push, I refresh when I want it. I also use Advanced Task Manager. So maybe the issue that was fixed was also causing a battery drain and is fixed now?

Jun 26, 2010I lost my phone last night, and I had wavesecure on it, but I haven't been able to locate it or even lock it! but I know the battery was really low. Does wavesecure not work if it's uncharged? Anyway, I'm still on contract, but no insurance. Is there any way to still somehow locate my phone using wavesecure?

Jun 3, 2010My Droid Eris will charge from about 20% to 100% in a matter of 1-3 hours- it's always quite fast! Last night, my phone was at 20% when I went to sleep at about 12am and when I woke up at 6am it was only at 40%. The phone felt very hot. I took it off the charger and put it in another plug. It is now 4pm and the phone is only at 80% and at times feels hot. I checked out the cord and there are no lesions or breaks or any visible problems w/ the cord. I'm not sure what's going on- any thoughts? I'm going to take it to the VZW store to obtain an understanding. It's only been 3-4 months that I obtained the phone.

Nov 8, 2009As much as I wanted to use the native Gmail app, the font size was just too small (seems like a common Android problem except in the browser). To remedy this I simply configured my Gmail (actually Google Apps) account as an IMAP account with the regular Android Mail. Here, font size is fully scalable (about six selections) and they apply to both reading email to typing new email. This will have to do until someone fixes the dedicated Gmail app font size. On the positive side, this actually works better in receiving email sent to the phone as it was definitely NOT full push with the Gmail app as it's supposed to be. Having them both setup it's easy to see that mail arrives much faster with the regular IMAP mail app than with the Gmail, which is really odd.

Feb 13, 2010I'm looking for a way to increase the font on my menus, settings, and for the general overall OS system. I realize I can add apps like Handcent that will allow me to do it for things like SMS/MMS. But I also would like to have a way to just increase the font for everything else. After coming over to the Eris from several other smartphones where the font could be adjusted, I'm concerned that I havent found a way on the Eris.
And no, I am not looking for answers such as, "Put on your reading glasses". LOL. I'm hoping I'm just overlooking a simple setting, and maybe an easy app that I can get thru The Market ?

When I take a picture and share it in messages it says picture is too large and starts compressing it. It compresses it down to 14kb. It says picture can be as large as 1000kb but every time it compresses it to 14kb and don't know how to change it.

May 18, 2010Ever since the 2.1 OTA upgrade,when I open my web browser it defaults to an extremely tiny size.I'd describe it as fit-to-screen where the entire web page will be fit to the size of the phone screen, thus making the words unreadable.I have to use my fingers to expand it before I can read it.But before the upgrade, it would open by default to a size that was at least readable.How can I change the default size of the web page?

On my secondary gmail account (not the one the Eris is set up with, but another one that I set up in K9) the font size in the message is so tiny I can't see it. Aug 9, 2010Very odd, but on Saturday, my phone game me the "almost out of space" icon on the top of the screen. I checked which apps were hogging the most space, and Contacts Storage was number one at 27 megabytes, twice the amount that it typically sits at.
So I turned of all of my syncs, deleted my contacts, and went back into my syncs to enable them all again, but then I noticed that Facebook was listed twice. I'm assuming this was because of the new Facebook update.
Did this happen to anyone else? Any theories?

Jun 12, 2010Well I finally put my phone on the charger with 11% battery life yet. It was off of the charger for a little more than 42 hours! I have never had this kind of battery life before. Last night I was at 67% and figured there is no reason to place it on the charger, woke to it at 54%. I used my phone as normal; email, texting, calling, market, games. I really don't know why I had such good battery life. I keep my SetCPU at 767 performance when in use and charge and sleep mode are the same at 480.

Nov 27, 2010Not sure which it is, and the answer will lead me towards either a new, better phone, or just a new battery.
I got my Eris a little over a year ago, so it's out of warranty, and it always had the occasional problem where it would either freeze when the screen was off, so I'd have to do a battery pull, or I'd take it out of my pocket to find that it was restarting.
It went through a few phases where it did both of those things a handful of times per day, then it stopped for a while, then started, then stopped.
Just recently, it's picked up again, and this is about 2 months after I rooted the phone, and until now, it's been great rooted. I've only really noticed this again though since I switched from KaosFroyo to CelebFroyo, but again, I also had these problems BEFORE I rooted too.
