Basically I was messing around and decided to check my battery usage because it seemed to have run down pretty fast lately, and i see this. Whenever i run my camera once this seems to happen. I always use the back button to back out of the camera after i use it and i've gone as far as ending all tasks using the system app. Is there any way to stop the camera from using so much of my battery, or should I just stop using it?

Will take the past three days for example. Monday i took ONE picture and all day under menu>settings>about phone>battery>battery use..... it said the camera app used 94% of my battery and that was after a days use.
Tuesday then rolls around and i didn't use my camera and i had charged my phone monday night but whats weird is it still said the camera app used about 87% of my battery and my battery died QUICK that day.
Today is wednesday and so far the only time i used my camera was when i quickly opened the bar code scanner app but i didn't even scan a code i just opened it for maybe 3 seconds and today it says the camera used 47% of my battery.
Is my camera app staying open even though under running services it isn't there and neither is it there when i use task killers such as "Android system Info"
I've noticed that for the past few days I have been experiencing lower than normal battery performance with my Eris. I checked the battery sonsumption and it says that it is the camera that is doing it. OK. So I force kill everything (reinstalled a task killer) and opened the camera and closed it again. I always exit an app with the back button, not the home button. Still the problem persists. I noticed that while it was charging last night that the camera was using 100% of my battery. So my conclusion is that whenever I charge my Eris the camera runs in the background even after I take it off of the charger. Is anyone having this problem?

Does this app do this to anyone else. On the 21st my phone was at 100% before I turned it off and on the 22nd in the morning it was still at 100%.
View 40 Replies View RelatedSince receiving the 2.1 OTA it seems that the camera is not closing properly after exiting. I first noticed this after I received the OTA update and just assumed I needed to do a factory reset, which i did yesterday.I checked it again this morning, took a pic, waited an hour and a half, and voila it's still eating battery at a prodigious rate as compared to other apps and systems currently consuming battery. The only thing I've found that works to date is rebooting the phone.Any ideas? anyone else experiencing this? My 1.5 ran beautifully and 2.1 is too, (I'm in the Frisco camp) with the exception of this camera glitch.

This has never happened until after the update but I also got a new droid the same day. So I dont know if this is due to my new droid or the update. Has anyone else noticed this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThere are some minor scratches in the window that the camera lens uses to take pictures on the battery cover. Even if I don't get all of them (some MIGHT be too deep, its hard to tell whether my fingernail catches or not in that little area), it would still be better if I could get some of them out. Any way I can do this without harming the lens even more?The scratches are on the outside of the cover, btw, not the tiny circle opening on the inside.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am currently on a new client where it's constantly on 1X and occasionally switches back to 3G with 0 bars, then back to 1X. I got in to work at 8:30 am and by 5:00 the battery was at 30%. Battery Manager shows Cell Standby as 21% of the battery usage. I had about a 15 minute call this morning (presumably on 1X, I didn't check) and have not used the Internet at all for the rest of the day. This is obviously unacceptable. On my Droid Eris, there was a way to turn off the Mobile Network and use only 2G/1X for calls. I have researched and not found a similar option for the Droid X (Why would Motorola leave this out?) Does anyone know what my options are? I've heard you can go into the #*#*INFO*#*# menu and set it to 2G only, then restart, but that would be a pain to do every morning.

So just a bit of background, Ive been in enterprise wide IT for 10 years now. I will say that my O/S knowledge is not exactly current but that may not be a bad thing for this. I will also state that what I report is just my own experience and I have not repeated is several times to validate anything. YMMV!
About four weeks ago my Eris was running like poo. Slow, lag city and getting almost unusable. I had been using Advanced Task killer quite liberally during this time trying to keep the device usable. Short term it seemed to help restore some of the response issues but it didnt take long before I was trying reboots to get the phone working well. Here is a list of apps I had installed at the time.

That quite a few apps but not overboard in my book, and most seem to be pretty stable.
Anyway I decided to wipe the device and start over again, but with the debate raging I decided that I was not going to run any sort of task killer or other memory manager. And that I was going to run for at least four weeks and report the results. I will say I trimmed some of the redundant apps (weather bug replaced all the other weather apps nicely)
I have to say that over all I dont feel like I need a memory manager or task killer. It would be hard to say that the phone is a zippy as it was right after I wiped it, but as of now its no where near as laggy as it was before I wiped it. I feel my battery life is just fine, but I am not one who thinks that battery is an issue anyway. If there is 10% left when my head hits the pillow at night then I am a happy camper.
So this does beg the question what does using a memory manager really do for your experience on the phone? I cant for sure state that using a task killer caused my lag issues before, but it was not helping at the time either. My apps and usage have not changed very much other then not using a task killer and as of now my phone is running pretty darn well.
For me I am pretty firmly in the do-not-need-a-task-killer-camp for now. And before you flame or argue with me I challenge you to try it both ways for a while (with a clean wipe). I am sure that others have had a different experiences and maybe using one works for them.
I set my screen to use HOME versus Sense UI. Well, I put the ATM widget on my screen for single click app ends...when I do this, though, it kills home.
Anyway I can exclude Home from this. It doesn't appear to be an option in my Apps list when i open Advanced Task Manager
I have YET to receive a single email from androidforums.com when I use "Instant Email Notification" for thread replies.
I've updated handcent and facebook and now my phone dies while I'm sleeping. It was at 50% when I went to bed. I have the sync for facebook set at once a day and never had this happen till after I updated those two apps. I now have to charge my phone 3 times a day! This is getting ridiculous.

However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up. My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn the past week or so, I've noticed my battery life drastically decrease. I could easily go a day and a half with moderate use (some web surfing, all my apps and widgets going, etc.). Last week, my battery was gone one day in about 7.5 hours. I thought it was from installing Screebl Lite. I disabled Screebl, same problem. So I uninstalled Screebl, same problem. I have Spare Parts installed, but it's not the most intuitive thing in the world. I try looking at the battery usage stats, but it says "Android System" is the biggest battery user. And I don't know what is good, what is bad, what is normal.
Example: Today, I had my phone at 100% charge. Took it off the charger around 10 AM. Around 11:00, I paired up the new Bluetooth headset I got for Christmas. I made a call. Listened to a couple of songs. Watched a couple of minutes of video. I browsed the Market for a few, disabled bluetooth and went about my day. By about 6:00, I was at 5%.
On VZW, with a brand new Galaxy S5.
Battery will make it about 7 hours. Exchange services is using about 50%. Set to push. Got maybe 6 emails over the weekend.
Not a tenable solution , everything else is OK. Was thinking about returning the phone for another one, but , I can't believe it is the HW.
Exchange set up exactly like my old razr, also just checked with another person at work with a S3, we have exchange set up the same way.
I know that it used to kill batteries when you would recharge it before it was low and needed to be charged. I also heard it was bad to take an item off of the recharger before it was at 100%. Does any of that hold true with today's batteries, meaning the one that is in the Sprint Hero? Can I recharge it at night if the battery is at 48% and have it not hurt the battery or it's life? Just wondering because I have a charge at work and home and wait till it is in need of charging. That is sort of a pain, I would rather turn the phone off at night and charge it and have a fresh and fast phone in the morning.

I am currently on my second Eris and I am having problems with my trackball not responding and something screwy with my camera not saving my pictures.
Right now I would rather pay to downgrade to another phone like a BB or even pay full retail value for a completely different Droid because I am afraid if they send me another Eris it is just going to break again.
If I call VZW and talk to them, will they send me another Eris that will most likely to break or will they send me a D1 or an Incredible?
I love my Eris but i just can't use it anymore and i feel like i will keep having problems if they keep sending me refurbs.
When the battery is low (Red LED blinkng) and somtimes at 15% when the popup comes up and you try to take pictures in close to or complete darkness pictures taken will look cut off like below:

If you keep taking pictures it will get to a point where the flash will stop working altogether and it will focus red bars take a picture of darkness since the flash did not come off. Opening and closing the camera app fixes this problem temporarily. If you plug it in and take pictures while plugged in the problem goes away. If you let it charge for a little bit unil it gets to around 15% and take unplug it and take pictures, the pictures will be fine until the battery drops to low (Red LED blinking). Two of my droids experiences this issue and my friend's droid as well.
This happened with 2.0 and 2.0.1

What is weird is that when I start taking pictures, first 1/4 of the photo will be cut off, then 1/2, then 3/4, finally just a sliver of picture will come through. Then the flash wont even come on at all... even if I force the flash on under settings no light will appear. Then I have to restart the camera app to get it to cycle through. It would make sense it is a battery issue having a decrease in voltage and not being able to supply the needed power to the LED, but do all droids have that problem? Do I defected unit or battery?
My phones camera had worked the other day. I'd messed with the settings and turned it to have a negative effect. Nothing wrong there.So, I went to go use the camera last night -both the camcorder and the normal camera- and... All I got was a black screen. I couldn't bring up a menu or anything. It was just black. The only way to do anything was to close it out by going back to the home screen. Any ideas?

It was put on our bill, so it's paid for and I would like to pass some savings on to a member here. I only used this battery twice, two days. View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Astro File Manager, and I can't find where the Eris stores photos taken with the camera. I have a folder called 'Photos' on my SD card, but that only has photos I copied to it from my PC. (so I could use them as wallpaper). When I use the Albums app, it lets me choose the Photos folder on my SD card, or a folder called 'Camera shots' with 29 photos in it (that I took with the Eris camera), but I don't see that folder anywhere with Astro , even when trying a file search.
