I have a droid X and love it. It's been great and I'm a huge android fan. That being said, after the update from Android 2.2 to 2.3 (gingerbread), I lost the ability to connect to WEP-secured wifi signals. I know it's not just my wifi at home, but ANY WEP wifi... I've been to Starbucks, other people's houses, etc, and had the same issue. Other types of security work just fine, but it essentially means that 50% of the time I can't connect to wifi.
What specifically happens is the phone identifies the signal and asks if I'd like to log in. I type in the password, but the "connect" button is NEVER responsive... it has been greyed out so that I can only press cancel.
In general, I've had spotty connection with other wifi as well (It will work for a few minutes, lose the signal, find it again, work, rinse-and-repeat).
I've googled solutions. Most of the answers ask me to change the actual router settings. I CANNOT DO THIS as I am living in a shared apartment. It is not my router. Moreover, I know that it's not a router problem as I have encountered NUMEROUS routers (including my routers at home that I used all the time before the 2.3 update) that this happens with.
I have a Wi-Fi router D-Link Dir-615. My HTC Legend recognize the router but after enterring the key to unlock the connection, it fails to connect. 2 PC are connected and the HTC touch of my wife too, and all three work fine.

When I fire up the same code on an actual device (Droid 2.0.1), all I get are white squares. This suggests to me that the textures aren't loading, but I can't figure out why they aren't loading. All of my textures are 32-bit PNGs with alpha channels, under res/raw so they aren't optimized per the sdk docs. Here's how I am loading my textures:......................

I hoped the dev phone successfully connect to the AP, and assign own auto-ip by itself(169.254.xx.xx). But It didn't happened. I think it must be abnormal case. Is there any special way to get an Auto IP address?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn theory there will come a day when Froyo or the GPS fix will be available from AT&T...
So every so often I go into Settings and then go to Software Update, click "Check for Update", click OK and for the past couple weeks it has ALWAYS told me that it failed to connect to AT&T's servers. If I try and check again it tells me that 24 hours has not elapsed since I made my last request. (Even though that request failed).
I've tried it in Airplane mode with Wi-Fi enabled and I've tried it in normal mode but using Wi-Fi and in 3G mode (not connected to any Wi-Fi network).
The day I got my phone I was able to retrieve an update (so it used to work) and I have not rooted my phone or "mucked with it" in any fashion.
I have a problem with my Wi-Fi connection. I turn on Wi-Fi, go to Wi-Fi settings and under the list of found networks is my home wireless. When I try to connect to it, it goes as far as "Obtaining IP adress" and after that it fails. I thought this was because I was using GalaxHero, but now I went to using Mustymod's 2.0 and the problem is still there.

I have an origonal rom on my HTC sensation. I had the same problem with the revolution rom.
I've experienced quite a lot of problems with the WiFi after updating the Andriod. Everytime I try to connect to my home-network i get that it failed to connect.
The phone didn't have any problems with this before the update.
Anyone had the same kind of problem, or anyone that has a smart fix for it?
When I try to connect to my University's network , the my Galaxy S is able to connect JUST fine. However, when I open a browser it says the incoming certificate is not secure and then I have NO INTERNET on any page. It tries to redirect me to the login page for the network but fails to do so with a "communications error" and subsequent no internet access of any sort.
What the network is supposed to do is redirect me to the login page so that I can register the device to the network and login using my university account. My phone can't do that apparently and just sits connected to the network with NO INTERNET connectivity.
This is the university network and the instructions how to get on it for Android devices: [URL] .... I connect to it just fine but am UNABLE to get to that device registration/login page.
This is NOT just for my university. ANY public network which requires me to accept an "agreement" before it lets me have internet access, my phone KILLS ITSELF and CANNOT pull up the agreement page but instead tells me there is no internet. I'm SURE its a software problem or something with settings but can't figure out just what it is.
Just about the only networks I can connect to on Wi-Fi are home networks.
Anyone else's droid just not do anything after selecting "connect" in the wireless settings screen? mine just scans and scans and then fails.

My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use HttpPost to send data from an android device to a server. It works great with a Wifi connection, but I get the IOException "The target server failed to respond" with a Mobile connection (3G, Edge, etc.). It doesn't seem to be a timeout problem (I set it to 90s). The use of HttpGet works perfectly with both Wifi and Mobile connection... Any idea of where the problem could come from?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have application that communicates with web server through REST. It works fine on a phone when connected via WiFi but does not work correctly when on 3G.
Not everything stops working. I'm still able to use some functionality but for some reason some calls to rest return "" (empty response) very quickly. Once again when I'm on WiFi everything works fine.
Just to clarify:
1. I have data plan :)
2. Server I'm connecting to is accessible from Internet
I have the Samsung Captivate, and I'm having a bit of an issue with my company's Exchange server. I don't want to sync it with my phone, I prefer to keep my work email separate, but I do occasionally need to use the Outlook Web Access portal on the server. When I'm on any WiFi connection, and I browse to my server's OWA, I get the login prompt, and I can successfully log in and do whatever I need to.
However, when on 3g, I get simply "Access Denied" without a login prompt at all. I've tried rebooting the phone, killing the browser process, clearing the caches in the browser, etc. None of that works. I administer this server myself, and it works with my wife's iphone just fine, as well as other android phones in the office.
While USB tethering over 3G/4G networks doesn't work unless you pay for the $30/mo hotspot feature (which I still cannot get Sprint to admit is a stupid name since I don't want a hotspot, only tethering, but I digress), you can tether and use the phone's WiFi connection.
Why would you want to? Well, I have a laptop that requires a USB dongle and now I have one less thing to carry. OK, not the best reason, but I found it interesting.
I can only RECIEVE email thru wifi connection (at home or in the office) I cannot get mail thru wireless connection... aka "over the air" it just "spins" and then eventually I get an error message " alert connection timeout" I have tried the followingre-installed my email account HARD RESET (that didn't work and was a major pain in the butt , trying get get everything back to the way I had it) double check settings (POP and SMTP) with my domain host and there tech support I have been to my Sprint store Tech support, spoken w/ Tech support, and now I am reaching out to you
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an android application that parses some HTML, downloads an image, and displays it. I'm using an AsyncTask to do the HTML parsing and image downloading, but that shouldn't be relevant. I never have a problem when I'm on WiFi on my phone, when I'm using the Eclipse debugger on my phone, or when I'm using the emulator. When I have my phone on the cell network (even with pretty good reception), the image sometimes fails to display. I'm having a hard time figuring out what is wrong, since the problem cannot be reproduced in the debugger. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
Update: I have narrowed it down to the image downloading function. This way my original code:.......................
I don't understand the tethering could someone give me a example on how it works?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using the SSH Tunnel app on a rooted HTC One S which is otherwise stock. It works perfectly on my home wifi network (if I access an ip web page it shows my SSH server's ip).
If I then turn off the tunnel, disconnect from wifi, reconnect over 3g it connects fine, but when I access the same site it shows my phone's IP, not my servers.
Are there any known issues that prevent SSH Tunnel from working on 3G?
just an opinion thing but do you think your home works better or worst on wifi? Because I think I see dramatic improvement on my phone just a thought
View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm away from home without a WiFi connection it seems like nothing works. You Tube, Last FM, eBay and worst of all any of the three different types of Twitter I have. Some of these apps are incredibly slow or others just give up. I've never been able to upload a picture via Twitter using any platform. Really annoying. Seems my Gmail isn't even notifying my anymore.. Have I done something? Is this linked to Orange's notoriously poor set up?
Will rooting my phone help? I'm already running out of space on my phone after downloading what I consider a fairly small number of apps. Why don't they save to, and run off, the SD card?
I have a Orange (UK) Desire which i have gold carded and unbranded with no problems.
Software info below
Firm Ver 2.1-update 1

There is now a software update available (1.15.405.4) which i have tried to install OTA it all works except it says unable to start WIFI. I have tried to install it with both my Goldcard and normal SD card (not sure if that would make any difference)
I got an HTC Raider on the weekend, and while using the 3G/4G/LTE networks, it's amazing. Super fast and wonderful. Also, generally, while using wifi it's the same thing - fast and works perfectly.
However, when I'm at work, and I connect to the wifi network at my office, it will typically only work for 3 or 4 minutes, and then just stops working. It still displays maximum signal strength, but won't load any page on the internet, and any apps that send/receive data do not work. My work computer is also on the same wifi network and it always works no problem, so I know the wifi network is fine.
WIFI tethering. Is there a app that works with a rooted moment running jc v7
