HTC Droid Eris :: Tips To Keep Droid Eris Running Fast
Jan 20, 2010Ive noticed now, that after about a week with my Droid Eris, although a love it, it seems to be running much slower than when I bought it. I just created this thread for people to add anything that might help the Eris run as quickly as possible.
1. power phone completely off every couple of days.
2. advanced task manager seems to help
3. clear browser cache!!! - this helped me immensely. Settings>Applications>Manage Apps> then find your browser and clear the cache. do this with other large apps.

I am currently running the stock facebook widget,twidget lite, scoreboard widget, the nexus one news and weather widget and the stock music widget. I am currently running home instead of sense and was just wondering what other good widgets are out there.

Mar 25, 2010I'm running the new 2.1 leak and I've been noticing the Amazon Mp3 app is always running. I've never launched it and I keep having to manually kill it through running services. I'm also noticing Shop Savvy is having the same relaunch issue, but I can always uninstall that one, unfortunately unless we get root we're stuck w/ the amazon mp3.

Mar 31, 2010I searched the forum a few times and cannot find any info on this, so I am sorry in advance for any redundancy. Since my upgrade to round #2 of the 2.1 leak, (which I love) I am always finding out that I have anywhere from 9 - 13 apps running out of the blue. I use ATK to kill them, but even when not opening apps, when I kill, there will be so many that were running. Question is, does anyone else have this problem, and what do I need to do to keep them from starting by themselves? Very frustrating when the phone lags because of this. Besides that, it kills the battery.

Apr 22, 2010Fully charged, never registered/activated, new, 8GB card in place, fingerprints wiped off. Ready... you'd think. I press the right hand power button, and see "Airplane Mode is on" and the time. Battery indicates full, time is correct. If I push the MENU button, I feel the buzz and the screen goes black with htc in the middle. Pushing the power button goes DARK, then back to Airplane Mode. All four touch points (Home, menu, back, and search) produce the buzz but do nothing. I haven't found the RESET button, and it's not in the Index. What basic, simple thing have I missed? Unfortunately, there's no 10 year old kid around to show me how to operate this #$!! thing.

Oct 4, 2010So lately my Eris has been running extremely slow. About a week ago I got a notification for "Internal memory is getting low." So after reading through several threads of the same topic and doing all the suggested actions (delete old text messages, uninstall unnecessary apps, clearing the cache for applications) my internal phone storage now says that there is 45.61 MB free. Yet, I still have not noticed any improvement in performance.
For example, I use Handcent to text message, and lately I have been unable to open it without it force closing every time. I've tried removing it as the default and using the native SMS program, but when I go to compose a new message it won't bring in any of my contacts when I go to select one. It just stays at a loading screen and then force closes. Also, it shows the phone number of an incoming text instead of the contact name as its stored in my phone book, so I pretty much have to guess who's number it is. Any thoughts on why it would do that? The dialer is just as bad, and since I don't have any of my friend's phone numbers memorized the phone is pretty much useless now and unable to perform the most basic of functions, using it to make calls.
I'm at my wit's end pretty much, the only other thing that I can think of is performing a factory reset. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or experience as to whether a full reset actually helps?
My phone is not rooted. I know, I know. Rooting will improve performance, but it seems like a hassle to me and I'd rather not have to deal with it (at least not yet).
HTC Droid Eris : Prevent Programs From Running
Jul 1, 2010Is there an app out there that will not just stop a program from starting up but from running at all? I have to continually kill progs like Footprints (or something), Amazon mp3 store, etc. I'd like to streamline the phone and only have programs running that are essential.

Apr 17, 2010Just recently I've noticed that random apps are running in the background. What happens is I'll open ATK and there'll be like 10 apps running(which I never even opened), so I'll go ahead and kill the selected apps. Within a minute there will be another 5-10 running without me even doing anything! What's the deal, this has got to be hurting my phones performance.

May 14, 2010Lately I've been noticing that some apps are running in the background when I've not opened them. Footprints, Voice dialer, Messages (I use handcent), Peep and Music are the ones I've noticed and (coincidentally) are all apps I don't use. I only notice them when using Advanced Task Killer and have to kill them. It's a new issue so is it possible another app I downloaded recently is to blame? Am i maybe just insane?

HTC Droid Eris :: Multiple Google Calendars Not Shown On Phone Running 1.6
Mar 3, 2010I've created multiple sub calendars within my standard gmail calendar account to managed my kids calendars. Doesn't look as though these calendars will come over to my Eris running 1.6. Is that correct? Any work around or am I missing something?
In the calendar option on the phone I see:

My work gmail calendar

It basically tells you everything you wanna know about your phone including every spec, every task running and how much CPU it is eaiting in real time, it has logs and everything. I highly recommend getting this app.

May 29, 2010My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

Aug 27, 2010I have a Moto Droid... rooted and all that, this isn't about me though. My brother has a Droid Eris and recently he has been having numerous problems with the OTA 2.1. I don't know if these problems are everyday to you guys but this is what he said:
-Text messages don't get pushed to the phone enough.. he misses a lot
-Volume bug/glitch every once in a while.. (no sound for anything until reboot, this mainly happens when a call is inbound.. resulting in no voice pickup.)
-Overall sluggishness when going through screens/menus
-Facebook "com.htc.bg" glitch - no facebook syncing (very active FB user)
-Extreme dialer/typing lag
Pretty much, he's fed up with the phone and has literally handed it over to me to fix it. He knows nothing about rooting, but that's what I'm here for. The rooting procedure for this phone seems muchh more difficult than for the Droid.. so if someone could point me into the right direction that would be great.
I'm looking to root, and find the best "stock-ish" rom that is the most stable, and bug free. I've played with his phone recently and I won't lie, the OTA upgrade to 2.1 is terrible! I noticed the .apk file for that easy root app? The thread isnt very long so I was skeptical about using it.
HTC Eris :: Older Version Of ROM Running / Time To Upgrade?
Aug 28, 2010So I am running an older version IC3ROM (4+ months old). When I left, Froyo was a buzz word, and leak rooting was a dream rumored to never happen. Is it time to upgrade to something new? I can't really complain about IC3ROM, as with Launcher Pro, it has been great. I don't particularly like the idea of starting over, but if there's something out there worth it, I'd give it a go. Opinions? I don't really care about Verizon's interface as I always replace it with launcher pro, but performance and stability is #1 concern.

Aug 24, 2010So I've heard a lot about it, so i decided to flash it and it wont let me press the android after it's been loaded. The android will flash white on screen, but wont let me proceed with setting up the phone. I wiped and flashed again, and it's doing the same thing. Anyone know the cause of this? So to get me through today i re-flashed Froyo v30 and its running slow as hell, the browser moves incredibly slow and the menus are leggy too. I've flashed it before and had a great experience so i was just wondering if anybody knew what was going on.
