HTC Droid Eris :: Phantom Running Apps

I searched the forum a few times and cannot find any info on this, so I am sorry in advance for any redundancy. Since my upgrade to round #2 of the 2.1 leak, (which I love) I am always finding out that I have anywhere from 9 - 13 apps running out of the blue. I use ATK to kill them, but even when not opening apps, when I kill, there will be so many that were running. Question is, does anyone else have this problem, and what do I need to do to keep them from starting by themselves? Very frustrating when the phone lags because of this. Besides that, it kills the battery.

Right after start up I looked at my task killer and see six apps running including voice dialer and footprints which I never use. Is there a way I can keep these tasks from running at start up?

Just recently I've noticed that random apps are running in the background. What happens is I'll open ATK and there'll be like 10 apps running(which I never even opened), so I'll go ahead and kill the selected apps. Within a minute there will be another 5-10 running without me even doing anything! What's the deal, this has got to be hurting my phones performance.

Lately I've been noticing that some apps are running in the background when I've not opened them. Footprints, Voice dialer, Messages (I use handcent), Peep and Music are the ones I've noticed and (coincidentally) are all apps I don't use. I only notice them when using Advanced Task Killer and have to kill them. It's a new issue so is it possible another app I downloaded recently is to blame? Am i maybe just insane?

Anyone else getting bogus application update notifications on 1.5? The past couple of days I've gotten several. They clear when my installed app list comes up, and there are no apps showing update available.

New here. I'm interested in the Phantom Skinz full body kit, which seems to come in both a smooth/glossy finish and a matte finish. Has anyone tried the matte one? I've had this phone long enough. It was cool compared to a dumb phone. But after a while, freezing, lag, phantom restarts, poor signal, and random switches have surpassed my patience.
I am going to switch to a Droid X. I heard good things. Few complaints. The HTC Inc. and Sam. Fascinate is nice but I'd rather not have a dead battery by noon everyday.

I'll sell it for $10, shipped.I will say that I really liked the Phantom Skinz on my Eris. The only thing that I didn't like was it eliminated the "soft touch" feel on the back. Other than that, no bubbling, very smooth, did not interfere with the screen and great self-healing.

My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

I noticed that if i dont use the app to kill running apps after i exit them they are still running in the background is this normal for the Android? I am coming from Pre so not sure if they are killed when exited.

Ive noticed now, that after about a week with my Droid Eris, although a love it, it seems to be running much slower than when I bought it. I just created this thread for people to add anything that might help the Eris run as quickly as possible.
1. power phone completely off every couple of days.
2. advanced task manager seems to help
3. clear browser cache!!! - this helped me immensely. Settings>Applications>Manage Apps> then find your browser and clear the cache. do this with other large apps.

So, as all DX owners know we have quite a few apps ALWAYS running, whether you need them or not, open them or not.... they just keep running. Why did Android design it that way? HOW to SHUT them off totally - that's the question. I have Skype, Wether, Contacts, Social app (Face book), Calendar, Sync Service, Google Messaging Service, and many more running ALL the time. And there are apps in my Tray, that are factory set, which I'll never use. How can I Delete them.

I'm sure some folks already know this but for those that don't. You find out what apps are running in the background by going into settings, applications and running services. You can stop whatever apps you want.

I can run an application in background but i want to know how many applications are running in the background.Like in some mobile while pressing the center button a list of currently running applications are displayed.Is this is possible in android.If possible means give some code snippets and steps to achieve this.

I understand that certain apps need to run in the back ground in order to work and others run so that they are easily accessible. Is it possible to pick and choose which apps run in the back ground so I can keep my phone running smoothly. I have used task killer apps but, they are just not the right solution as most apps will just restart them selfs.
My main problem is the fact that I have to many apps installed on the phone and as the app store grows and I keep reading this forum it only gets worse. My phone actually got to an unresponsive state so that every time I picked it up there is a serious lag. I fixed this by deleting unnecessary apps that aren't used daily or weekly. The problem is I liked these apps and want the ability to be able to use them in a pinch but I don't want them running all of the time.

Apps like Corporate Calender and Alarm clock. I have deleted them and they still continue to show as running every time I use Advanced Task Manager. They are not showing on my home screen but must be running in the background, right? How do i permanently get rid of them?

I dont want certain things coming up on boot like stock email and im stuff..besides useless apps such as startup auditor..can i do this in anyway in root..i dont care if there installed or installed i just dont want them coming up on boot.

I've noticed that a lot of my apps (skype mobile, email, gmail, etc) keep booting up when I don't turn them on. I know that there just checking for updates and doing there job, but I would really prefer it if I could run the updates manually and save the phone's very limited RAM.

ok so to make a educated decision, i downloaded from the market, home++ and GDE. so technically with default home app, i now have three to choose from. noticed that when press my home button it wants me to decide what home app to use and all three come up. does this mean that all 3 are running? is this sucking the life out of my phone? i have heard the whole android moves memory to running apps thing so i am wondering should i remove one of them since i cant remove the default one?

So I chose to get a Phantom Skinz after reading the reviews. My older Droid was having major reboot issues, so I just exchanged it 3 days ago. Once I determined this new Droid had no glaring issues, it was off to install my phantom...Took 1.5 hours. Wasn't thrilled at the way the corners worked, but it was doable. HOWEVER, when I went to take the dog out and bent over to pick up a ball to throw for him, the once-sticky droid (now slick with the full body skinz), slipped right out of my hoodie pocket. OF COURSE the only place that was scratched was the 1mm of bezel that is not covered by the strangely-engineered top/corner cover. Kinda ticked that I wasted, 1.5 hours, only to make my phone slick enough to fall and have it scratched where the "full body" cover didn't cover.

This is the first phone that I've owned that has LED notifications, and I've become very reliant on them. Has anyone ever felt their phone vibrate in their pocket only to power on the screen to find out it didnt really go off (phantom vibration). Well for me, its now the LEDs. For most of the day, the droid sits on my desk and i'll look at it every now and again to see if the light is blinking to see if i have an unread message. Every now and again i'll see it blink when there are no new notifications, and its making me feel crazy. anyone else get this at all?

I have a few apps running which are similar to installed ones, eg K9-Mail Beta, Quick Settings and ENotify. Since they are doing similar things to the installed ones, are there certain things I must do if I have them running, ie should I be trying to turn off the installed ones?

Has anyone noticed that there are lots of apps that are autostarting with the new froyo update. I have to constantly open Advanced task Killer to kill these apps. Things like, skype, google search, and contacts for example. Any way to keep these from autostarting every 5 seconds... its like they start immediately after I kill them.

So I got my phantom skinz screen protector today. I went to put it on and it didn't fit. It was too small by about a 1mm on each side (length and width). I thought these things were supposed to be slug fits. Is this normal or should I contact them?
