I thought I would try to create a thread with short answers and links to instructions. I would like to keep this thread short. These are answers found on this forum not mine if you don't agree with them you can argue about it on the original threads. Feel free to add questions and answers/links. Please keep it short?.

- When will I get OTA 2.1?
It is Random. But all should have OTA by May 24. (For those sticklers as random as a computer will generate I know it is not truly random but close enough for this case.)
- If I have a leaked version will I get OTA 2.1?
Yes according to VZW.
- Has anyone with the leak got the OTA?
No. No one reported getting OTA as yet. Look Here.
- Is the leaked 2.1ver3 the same as the OTA?
Yes. Except for the HBOOT version, leaked has 1.49. How to check HBOOT version
- Can I manually install the OTA?
YES. Instructions
- Does 2.1 have live wallpaper?
NO. VZW says yes. Those who have the update don't have it. Look Here.
- Does 2.1 have talk to text?

I followed Caddyman's instructions on what to do if the Native SMS app was keeping my phone awake all the time. After rebooting and letting it sleep for 10 minutes, my phone is still at 100%. I just got it last night so I just have Weather Bug, Handcent SMS, Facebook, Gmail, and Peep installed. I've never had a smart phone so it's possible on of the other settings is keeping it awake, but I have no clue which it would be.

Alright I sifted though all the root/upgrade threads only to find myself confused so I apologize for the possibly common question but I seek clarification.
Some months back when I got my HTC Eris I installed a 2.1 leak and rooted it. Not 100% sure but I believe it was Version 2. I used these instructions:
Now that the official 2.1 is out I want to switch to it and root it again. I started looking at the pinned threads only to realize that depending on how and what one installed on ones phone it may or may not be possible and instruction vary.
Can someone point me to the set of instructions that apply to my case or confirm that I am out of luck. If you need some firmware build code etc from my phone to make an accurate recommendation I would be happy to provide the information.

I've looked everywhere to get rid of the annoying short vibration that occurs each time you press a number on the phone dialer keypad. I just want the tone. Surely this isn't something that's hardwired?

So I use my Eris as a GPS from time to time and when I do, I do not want the screen to shut off automatically. I know how to change this in settings but what I want is a widget that I can keep on my home screen that will disable the screen time out, and then turn it back on again (the way the wifi short cut allows me to turn my wifi receiver on and off without going through settings.
I do not think such a short cut already exists, I would happily write it myself, but not sure how to go about starting.

Anyone have issues where the touch screen and the buttons become unresponsive for a period for short bursts. I think my phone has had it. I tried restoring it to see if certain apps maybe causing it but that is not the issue. Restored still same problem. it happens about every 5 minutes.

Received my 2.1 OTA at 1:36 AM last night and ever since, I can't manually lock my phone by short pressing the power button anymore. I thought maybe this was a Spare Parts issue, since I had changed the Power Button behavior on 1.5 using Spare Parts (when I pressed Power from any screen, it would return me Home; pressing from Home would Lock). So, I uninstalled Spare Parts, but this didn't remedy my problem. Any advice?

I'm looking for a 3.5 headset/earpiece that will at least answers and end phone calls on my Droid, i use Apple earplugs that are pretty decent, but i was wondering if anyone knew of anything else on the market. NO BLUETOOTH EARPIECES.

I know there are many threads on this already, and I apologize for creating yet another one, but I can't seem to find a clear answer on how to do this. I've already tried the method described in the "Guide from stock 1.5 to the latest root 2.1 thread" and that method failed. Here is the situation, I'm having an issue with my phone that is basically making it unusable, see this thread: Phone stuck in headset mode. This is my 2nd eris after having it replaced once already, and I'm going to try and use this problem as an excuse to complain my way to an upgrade. But before I go into Verizon I need to unroot my phone. I currently have a rooted v of 2.1, I'm not sure what is is called but I think it's basically a rooted version of the official OTA. I am not on Leaked.
Now after the OTA I don't know if 100% stock means 1.5 or 2.1 but basically I need it so Verizon can't see that I've voided my warranty. I am looking for an idiots guide to going back to 100% stock. I've found a few threads on this but I am not tech savy enough to understand the technically discussion to know if these methods will even work for me. I'm looking for a easy to follow guide back to stock that is written so that even an 8 year old can follow it. And I'm not talking about one of those freaky computer genius 8 year old, I'm talking about the kind of 8 year old that picks his nose and eats paste, the one who is a little bit slow. You know who I'm talking about we all went to school with at least one kid like that.

Has or will anyone describe the process in detail for the mac users out there. I'm on a standard Eris and would like to move to the unofficial ROOTED 2.1 ROM but I don't own a PC and am hesitant about doing it without some guidance.

This is the first time I've rooted a phone, and i picked the Kaos Froyo V38 as the rom, but I've noticed since i did all of this my battery has been far far worse than what it was un-rooted. Today, for example i had my phone off the charger and on vibrate (with gps, mobile network off) and i was down to under 15% in under 5 hours. This is so much worse. Is it because i'm now running 2.2? What can i do to help this besides wiping the battery data (in the recovery menu)? I'm not really good with all of this yet, so some suggestions would be wonderful.

I'm sitting down with Evo on the table off to the side. My wife calls and I her talking away with someone else...before I even touched the phone
Im on hardware 4, software 3.3x..had phone (as replacement) 2 weeks now and has never happened before. I tried with other phones, but it did not happen again.
The wife did call back later... I heard no more audio till I answered but then again... it is a long shot, but maybe she was not talking.

Both seem to be working perfectly, except:
The Contacts and Calendar on the phone no longer appear on my laptop. Worked fine yesterday.
Obviously it's some idiotic thing I did or failed to do, but I haven't a clue.

I have installed Dolphin and like it, and I've made it my default browser, which is great. However, it is not only the system default, but it even opens links I click on in the Android provided browser (sometimes I both open). On your computer, when you click links in your non-default browser it doesn't send the links to the default one, and it shouldn't on this OS, either. Any ideas how to keep Dolphin as my system default browser, but not have it open links I click on in the Android web browser?

Normally if you call a Sprint phone and voicemail picks up you can press 2 which bypasses voicemail and automatically sends a text showing "PLEASE CALL (# your calling from)".
For people that use the automated greeting it usually says "You have reached the The Sprint voicecaller "recites number" please leave a message" and at that point you press 2 to to send the page showing you called.
NOW on the Evo, (or maybe its the Andriod platform) when people call you they get a greeting that says "you reached phone number" and if you hit 2 to bypass it, it says sorry "that option is not available". This sucks and by no means is this feature a deal breaker for me, (this phone is The One like Jet Li) however...
The reason I'm bringing this up it that "press 2 to page feature" I been using for years now has been extremely useful when I have no service or 1-2 bars. If you miss calls by receiving that quick text showing please call. this at least alerts you know someone called when you didnt have service.
Just looking to see if anyone knew of a workaround or another quick option, (besides the person having to type a text. I think ppl are less reluctant to leave messages nowadays..I dont either)

I hate belt clips/holsters and have always carried my phone in my pocket. Whenever I receive an incoming call on my incredible, the action of pulling it out of my pocket answers the call 99% of the time. I cannot screen any calls as a result and on one occasion, while driving, I had a hard time getting the phone out of my pocket and, unbeknown to me, the caller could hear me grumbling about it, so the call was picked up while still in my pocket even.
I've tried orienting the phone differently in my pocket (upside down, right side up, screen out, screen in), but the result is always the same. I've searched and searched the forum and the internet, but cannot find a way of locking my phone so that a button needs to be pressed for call answers instead of the screen swipe. Am I the only one having this issue? Is there a workaround that I don't know about?

I have been trying to find the answer to this question for a while and have found mixed opinions. Is it possible to use google voice to make wifi calls just like from the browser of a computer? I don't get it if you can call from a computer using wifi why can't I on my captivate?

It's been awhile since I've done an update. I'm on Ult Droid 9.0.0. I noticed that there are no ROM Manager instructions for 9.8.0 but that states you have to do a wipe and clear cache prior to installing the update. Do you still do all this through the ROM manager? Or is there another way to install this that is "better"?

Well lately my battery life has been horrid. If I am lucky I get 7-8 hours. That's with little to no internet use and just texting. Like now I'm at 70% and my phones been unplugged for 1 hour and all I have done is text a little and browse Facebook via the app for a little. I'm using BB .4 with the stock kernel. I was gettin better battery life than this before.

I've got an XML file storing an array of shorts in my resources. I need to assign this array, but Android API only provides a way to get array of ints (getResources.getIntArray()). I've ended up getting an array of ints and converting it to array of shorts later, but that's hardly ideal.
Is there a way to get an array of shorts from Android resources? If not, is there a more efficient/cleaner way of converting int array into short array? My code ...

If the processor is running faster, the phone will be faster and more responsive, but the battery may drain more quickly. If the processor is running more slowly, the phone will be less responsive and take longer to complete tasks, but battery life will be increased. With SetCPU, you can set up profiles to manage the CPU speed based on certain conditions.2. Main Tab and Basic Usage To get started with SetCPU, start the app, read the introduction, and pick "autodetect frequencies." If you ever need to access this screen again, press the Menu button in SetCPU's Main tab, then choose Device Selection.If your kernel doesn't support autodetect, you won't see it choose the device that best matches your phone from the list. After you've passed the introduction screen, you may get a request from Superuser Permissions. Depending on your version of Superuser Permissions, either check the box for "remember" and press "allow" or press the "always allow" button. The sliders here allow you to manually control the CPU scaling bounds. The CPU frequency will always be between these two values. By default, the CPU should scale between the max and min frequencies based on need. The sliders also control the "main" profile as explained later. Today the rom bug bit me and I tried about 3 or 4 different roms (after TIbackup and nand backup of course) including xtrROM and ELB, hated them all, and decided to go back to my beloved sense-able 3.1 nand backup.
wiped, restored, and now all my market links are gone. (except for gmaps, for some reason). TIbackup refuses to even install again from the market because the package signature is incorrect, or something. TIb said it was supposed to restore market links.any suggestions? is there even any way to restore a market link besides just reinstalling the program outright? I found this thread http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/81290-market-does-not-see-all-my-downloads-after-nandroid-restore.html as reference. All my programs will show as "installed" if I search them in market.either way, sense-able was definitely the sexiest-out of the box ROM I tried. everything else without sense was just ugh, looked like I'd loaded up a G1. couldn't tell a speed difference at all with the same setCPU profile, and xtrROM was so bad on battery I only made it through few hours before uninstalling. I cannot live with the sense keyboard and search-dialer.

I have been using Open Home for about a day now and I just had the second time where I lose all of my ICONS on all of my screens.. Even my direct dial shortcuts (which is irritating!) ... Any Idea what may be going on here? I am not switching anything of note and am using an Open Home Skin..
