Subject says it all.I've read posts here and other places regarding turning off "Enable 'always-on' mobile". I'm still unclear on exactly what this does. I guess I can figure it out by turning it off - and sending exchange and Gmail e-mails to myself to see if/when they arrive.

I just thought I would mention unchecking this option causes pandora to stop playing after ever doing when the phone is locked.

I did a small search around the internet, and it came up with just about nothing.My first question is: I turned mobile data off, and yet, during the night, I was charged for data, so something leaked.Personally, I thought if this was because of this particular function. But maybe it was something else.So, I turned it off, but around the forums for other androids people seem to think that syncing doesn't work as well with this disabled.Does anybody know what might have happened? And could this function have been the thing that caused the leak.The leak, was actually for only 50 KB or so, but because I'm on Page Plus, it caused me to go under the required balance to refill of $29.95 and caused my plan to lapse. It's important for me for this not to happen again. Can anyone give any tips?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend has an HTC Eris and here lately she's been having an issue answering phone calls. This doesn't happen every time but does happen a lot - she'll get a call and will press answer on the phones screen and she then hears nothing. The person that's calling her doesn't hear her picking up, in fact with the tests we've done with my phone and a friends phone is that on the callers end it just keeps ringing as if she never picked up.
She picks up she hears nothing, the caller on the other hand just hears the phone keep ringing. Any idea's what's causing this? She's not running any custom ROMs, in fact it's a stock phone up til about 2 days ago when I did root the phone - however she had this problem prior to that as well.
So I just called Verizon, my original Eris was returned because I couldn't answer calls before they went to voicemail, and now I have the silent speaker bug, I can't hear anyone on through the speaker and they can't hear me on the other side. Has anyone had luck with the replacements? Maybe I'm just getting bad ones.

View 10 Replies View RelatedAll incoming phone calls are being automatically answered. I went to Settings>Language and Input; however, I don't see the Voice CMD for Apps option. I also want to note that this is not voice activated answering - it is just auto answering. I am not using a headset and the option for auto answering with a headset is off.

If not I ask the user if he would establish an Internet Connection, and what type (wifi oder mobile). The wifi connection i can establish with the following code WifiManager wifiManager = (WifiManager) getSystemService(Context.WIFI_SERVICE);
wifiManager.setWifiEnabled(true); But how do i establish a mobile connection? Couldn't find a single code snippet at Google.
A freind of mine recommend that I uncheck this. He said it saves battery life as it isnt always checking the net but everything still works fine. Is this right?

But I can't find anything like that for the data network... no method for this on TelephonyManager or ConnectivityManager.Isn't it possible to programmatically enable / disable mobile data?

For accessing System files, I need to root android but it is locked with pattern lock or passcode (USB Debugging Disabled).
If i'll flash the mobile, it will change the filesystem which is not forensically sound.

This is my first post on this board and I wanted to express a great deal of thanks to everyone for the wealth of information avaiable.I recently rooted my EVO and installed Myn's 2.2 ROM which I am extremely happy with.There is NO CHANCE I would have done this without all the great info here.I have looked for this information and am a bit overwhelmed - this is the first phone I've rooted, so I am proceeding extremely carefully with all the things I do with it.I can't seem to find a definitive answer how to prevent OTA updates entirely.I'm not even sure I have to worry about it since I have a new ROM installed.The last thing I want to have happen is to wake up some morning and suddenly my phone is unrooted with a new version of Sprint's ROM. I am perfectly happy waiting for custom ROMs to come out with feature changes (for example, Gingerbread). If I never see an OTA update prompt again, and I can be sure it won't apply itself without my intervention, I'll be happy as a clam.

Is there a way of completely disabling the slide unlock to answer the phone? Using the Green to answer, Red to deny works perfectly well. I want it like an "olden-days" dumb phone. Is it at all possible to modify/flash the ROM to render the screen inactive for this? Most threads point to unlocker apps, but I'm trying to avoid them.

1. Get the locationManager object.
2. Do a 'get best provider' call.
3. Get a list of all available providers.
4. lm.requestLocationUpdates(bestProvider, 0, 0, this); hit the location provider as much as I can to get my first signal
5. Send a delayed message.If a location cannot be found in 10 seconds, switch to a different provider and try again with lm.requestLocationUpdates(nextProvider, 0, 0, this);
6. Repeat step 5 until I have a location.
7. Once a location is found determine if it is the most accurate provider.If it is not try again with the most accurate provider on an 8 second delay.If it is the most accurate provider then set lm.requestLocationUpdates(currentProvider, 30000, 0, this); to conserve battery
8. Make sure to lm.removeUpdates(this); before changing the requestLocationUpdates
Now it occurs to me that it may be possible to iterate through my list of providers and do requestLocationUpdates for all providers at once.Is this a viable option or can you only listen to one provider at a time?I have seen that location from onLocationChanged has getProvider()to let you know who provided the location information so that I can know which provider is actually finding a signal and turn off the others.
I decided to share the solution i found to the problem of Android not supporting real modal dialogs.The solution was to draw the dialog by myself. :-( Well, at least worked fine, besides the problem that its a bit ugly.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an Eris from Craigslist. It had 2.1 on it. I recently got my number ported and activated on the eris on pageplus. Although the weird thing, and this happened before the activation. Is after i used the wifi widget and the 3g turned off the mobile network wont turn on. I tried using the widget toggle as well as in the menu. Its just always stuck as " Turning On".Do i have to do anything to fix this? I thought i saw a thread about this the other night but now i cant find it. I also did a hard reset thinking that would fix the problem before i did OTA Activation.

View 3 Replies View Relatedlong time reader, first time poster.My question is- if I have wifi turned on and am connected, and have it set to never disconnect when sleepeing, should I turn mobile network off?So basically, will/can the info pulled to my phone over the mobile network be pulled over wifi with no impact on my end? This question is mostly in respect to battery life.
I had installed the "quick settings" app that was mentioned in another thread. When I tried to open it this morning to turn on the mobile network (I usually keep it off at home), a message popped up saying the application was not updated properly and it needed to be removed and reinstalled. I tried to go to settings>wireless controls to turn on the mobile network but that isn't working either. When I look at the button to turn on the mobile network in the settings, it says "standby to connect to mobile network", I click it, it goes away and says "connect to internet" but when I click it again it just tries and then stops after a minute or so. I removed the quick settings app and restarted the phone, but that didn't help.This happened once before and I just connected to WiFi and reinstalled the quick settings app, but now I'm somewhere where I don't have WiFi access. If it matters, I also have a shortcut button installed to turn the mobile network on and off, but that isn't doing anything either. Any suggestions?

I would've thought there would be, but I can't find any that do that. I got an Eris recently and couldn't import my contacts from my old phone, so I was hoping I could do it this way.
Does anyone else have problems with this not working? I have a shortcut on my main screen to this and all of a sudden since yesterday I have to hit the network button like 10 times for it to turn on or off. I have to keep it off at work otherwise I won't have enough beattery life in it to get past 3 o'clock due to signal loss in my building.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOccasionally when I wake my phone up the 3g mobile network has shut itself off. It will come back automatically in a few seconds of waking the phone up, but for some reason, it's turning off while asleep. I've noticed this with my wifi as well.
I caught this problem because my Gmail has been arriving to my pc, but not my phone. This doesn't happen all the time, but it seems to be happening more lately.
