View 3 RepliesI'm trying to show up for new service with Verizon and get the Incredible. But I cannot figure out if activation is free. I've had 3 online chats and have received different answers each time. In my last chat, they told me every possible answer, yes, no, depends, doesn't depend, what the website says, not what the website says.I tried to order earlier today, and I thought on the checkout screen it said free activation. Not sure whats changed. Now when I try it lists a $35 activation fee. But on the left of the screen is a box that says free activation, Friday-Monday, will be credited on 1st or 2nd bill.Things I changed was logging in through my university website (discount), and trying a 1yr commitment.I've been told several times that the free activation is only on a 2yr commitment. But I don't see it say that anywhere online. This whole process is not inspiring confidence in Verizon. I cannot get an answer to a simple question about the supposed free activation. They make the rules overly complex and keep changing them. They reps are clueless. Reminds me too much of Sprint.
View 29 Replies View RelatedI was going through the process this morning of pre-ordering my Inc.I am switching from T-Mobile so I am signing up for a new 2-year plan.On the checkout page it is showing a one-time activation fee of $35.Am I wrong, but I swear there used to be free-activation Monday-Friday online.I can't find that promo on their web site anymore.Did anyone else have to pay this fee?Perhaps they are suspending the promo during the Incredible launch?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working on a project for a school system where they want to used deactivated donated phones in the classroom for WiFi access only. They will be reset to Factory Defaults, so we'll need to get pass the Activation screen.
It will be a variety of phones so that is why I am posting this here.It appears there are several different ways of bypassing the screen.I seriously doubt that they will allow Rooting of the phone, but I will pass it along as a suggestion.
Seems like the most common is the 4 corner clockwise tap. This seems to work for HTC and Motorola. What I cannot find is if this is permanent or not? If the phone Is powered off and then back on, does this have to be done again or is it once and done?I've read both, but without device in hand, I cannot confirm or deny.
Is there a list out there for all the models that support this?Samsung looks like you have to dial *#83786633 But this does not seem like a permanent solution--has to be done every time.Permanent seems to Root and delete or freeze phone.apk or setupwizard.apk?
I have a Droid Eris that i just got with the 2.2 leak i think well the phone was acting up so i reinstalled the leak now i cant get pass the activation part. if i hit activate the screen goes black and i cant touch anything to make it go back on i have to take out the battery but emgency calls work fine but its only 4 emergency so im asking is there any way to bypass the activation or a way to go back to 1.5 plz help me i really like the phone i would like 2 mainly use it 4 music. View 15 Replies View RelatedLove the Eris so far...minus 1 glitch which is hopefully user error. Has anyone else had a problem with it calling from your pocket? It has happened to me a few times the passed couple of days (just picked up the phone this weekend) where the screen is somehow activated in my pocket, possibly after a missed call or text, which results in "pocket dial". Is there an alternative method to "unlock" the screen so maybe it doesn't happen so easily? This is my first touch screen to maybe there is a trick I don't know about.
View 28 Replies View RelatedI currently own a Moto Droid but am I thinking of jumping ship to the Eris. I recently picked up an Eris and I would like to play around with the GUI and see if the phone and Sense is what I am truly looking for before I activate it on my account. Is there any way to bypass the activation screen after the phone boots so that way I can play around it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI found a good deal for a HTC Droid Eris online from a website, the location was perfect as it was right near where i reside. After setting up an appointment to meet and looking at the phone i found that the phone wasn't 'brand new' but had been used, the owner claims that she bought it from another person who claims that it had not been activated at all. I tried to activate the phone and couldnt because the phone had already been activated on Verizon's Network. She said that she was going to take the phone in in the morning and see what they could do about it. So she is going to give me a call tomorrow (i guess its today now that it is past midnight). So my question is if she calls me back tomorrow and says that Verizon has taken care of the problem and i can now activate it with my phone # do i go ahead and buy it from her? Is there anything i should be worried or be informed about? Help me out fellow Android users! I dont want to buy the phone and activate it and get screwed over somehow because i wasn't knowledgable to a certain extent, as you can tell i dont have much experience with phones as far as activation/ESN/plans/etc whatnot go.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the whole "smart phone" thing but I have been able to figure out how to all the things I want to do on my Droid Eris so far except one.I like to watch videos on Hulu and Adult Swim Fix. When I try to watch them using my droid eris, I get a message that says this content can't play on this device.I have been able to watch YouTube videos but not the Hulu or AdultSwimFix ones.Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to watch these videos? Is there an app I need to get or a setting I need to change?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo whenever I try to play a video from the internet on my Eris it makes me wait about a minute and then pops up and says sorry video cannot be played. (This happens on the internet on multiple websites including Youtube and also on the Youtube app).
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt is absolutely ridiculous that the eris can't play 95% of the online videos I want to watch.
Is youtube seriously it? WTF!? No fox.com, NBC, adult swim, comedy central?
I had a Motorola flip phone that could play almost any video, including from the above sites. I thought I was upgrading when I bought the eris. Am I missing something?
Can someone post a back up of this app. When I upgraded my Eris to 2.1, the backup didn't include this file and now I can't get it on the market place. One of my favorite free apps for streaming my sports station at work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat apps are you all using to watch TV shows online. I got TV.com from the market but it's only certain broadcasting stations such as CBS. Are there any other out there for the HTC Droid Eris for NBC and ABC stations?
View 8 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago i rooted my phone but just flashed engtools3. This morning i decided to try out a new ROM. I flashed XTR 3.01 and was going through the setup and was asked to activate my phone. My phone has already been activated and i was wondering if this is normal when flashing a new ROM and if verizon is going to re-charge me for the activation fees?

Is there anyway I can access my phone's location online like through google maps or something?
With people on here asking what the difference between the Eris and other phones are, I stumbled upon this article and thought I would share. It's the EVO 4G vs. the Nexus One vs. the Incredible. The last two will be on VZW, while the EVO will be Sprint only, I believe. Verizon Droid Incredible vs. Sprint Evo 4G vs. Google Nexus One -- Spec fight! | Android Central. Do you really need to make the switch? This should help you. These will be the best phones (for how long, no one knows) by the time this summer rolls around, so if you're breaking your contract or something similarly crazy as that, read this. This is just a fraction of the research you need to do before you make a decision like that. You may decide the Eris is the best for you.

I am receiving a replacement Eris tomorrow, but before I get settled in with it, I am curious to see how common the issues I've had with my two previous Eris's? I'm listing out the issues I've had, just state whether you've had the same issues.
1 - Phone losing 3G coverage and having to restart phone for it to reacquire said coverage.
2 - Up to two minute delay between pressing "Call" and call actually being placed.
3 - GPS unable to track/find you.
4 - Browser scrolling erratically.
5 - Unable to answer incoming call (phone rings, screen goes black, hit call button, nothing happens, phone then states "missed call").
6 - Touch buttons unresponsive.
Essentially, when I receive my third Eris, I am debating whether to go ahead and find issues with it and demand another device, or if the issues listed above were mere coincidences with two different phones.

View 23 Replies View RelatedI'm curious about what your experience has been if you've had to get a replacement phone. Have the bugs on your old phone been resolved, or are you still having glitches - either the same old ones or new one? Your evening quiz: Did you have to install OTA or was 2.1 already installed? If you had the problems with poor battery life, or poor signal, before, do you have them on your replacement?Anyone have any *new* bugs arise on the replacement that you didn't have before? Was the replacement (presumably a refurb) in like-new condition? Did you just pull the SD and swap it before sending the old phone back? Does it make a difference if you return it to a Verizon store, or directly back to Verizon?
