I am working on a project for a school system where they want to used deactivated donated phones in the classroom for WiFi access only.They will be reset to Factory Defaults, so we'll need to get pass the Activation screen.
It will be a variety of phones so that is why I am posting this here.It appears there are several different ways of bypassing the screen.I seriously doubt that they will allow Rooting of the phone, but I will pass it along as a suggestion.
Seems like the most common is the 4 corner clockwise tap. This seems to work for HTC and Motorola.What I cannot find is if this is permanent or not? If the phone Is powered off and then back on, does this have to be done again or is it once and done?I've read both, but without device in hand, I cannot confirm or deny.
Is there a list out there for all the models that support this?Samsung looks like you have to dial *#83786633 But this does not seem like a permanent solution--has to be done every time.Permanent seems to Root and delete or freeze phone.apk or setupwizard.apk?
How do you go about activation with buying phones online.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter 2 years I am finally back from iOS to Android 4.4.2 on my new Nexus 5.
I flashed the newest version Paranoid Android and now I am seeking for a lockscreen layout that can replace the iOS lockscreen notifications I got really used to.
Dashclock combined with Dash Notifier seems like a good alternative but I now have some strange lockscreen behaviour of which I don't know if it's normal or because of some settings I missed.
Every time I expand / shrink for security code input I see a semi transparent white rectangle (as seen in the pictures attached).
Is this normal? If not is there any setting I missed, if yes, is there any possibility to avoid this? I don't use any lockscreen replacement at the moment...
I've noticed some people swapping out their phones for 'issues'.How does this relate to the Android Market and apps you've purchased?If you swap to a new phone,will you be able to re-download apps we've paid for? or will we have to pay for it again?Also, what if the phone has a zagg or some other type of shield?Will Sprint replace this?or are we out of luck and have to purchase again?I have the static in the earpiece issue.we'll see how long I can last with that issue before it really gets on my nerves.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a mp3 player for my car. I usually use my Verizon Note 2 to play my music but due to ill parents need to keep phone ready for call. So I'm looking for a mp3 player. Don't want an Ipod. Really like my Samsung media player. If I buy a used phone (possibly from ebay) can it be used as a mp3 player if I don't activate it? And what about phones that are advertised with bad ESN. Since I'm not activating it would it still be usable for a mp3 player?
I would assume it can be used as a mp3 player just not as a phone and I could never update it. Is this correct? I've always just used the phone that I have activated with Verizon so I don't know what I can and can't do with one that isn't activated.
I dont have a verizon sim card anymore since we switched to AT&T, and i was wondering since i reset my phone is there anyway i can bypass the activation since i dont have a verizon sim card? I just want to use the phone like one would use an ipod.
Im running 4.0.4.
Is it possible? Need to bypass it to show other people the phone(its for sale) and it needs to be "activated" before i could use it for just wifi....how to get passed this? Hardware button method? Software?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason in the past day or so, my speech recognition function makes a bleep noise when I activate it. I am pretty sure it never did before (I don't like beeps and bleeps). All my other settings are on vibrate or mute. I have gone through the various sound settings in the system menu and the language and input and can't find a way to turn it off. How to get that sound off? Or even tell me how it might have turned on?

1) How i can get the most out of my ios backup in general, apps, contacts etc.In other words: How i transfer all my contacts from iOS to Android? Including picture, phones and emails info.
2)I have all my music organized in itunes, including album art, lyrics and selected songs to sync with my phone. Which is the best program to administrate my phone now and how i make sure all these organization does not get messed up?
3) Any other tips about switching from IOS to the latest Android are welcomed!I got this questions from another forum but the replies dint convinve me at all.
4) and which is the right way to update to kitkat without loosing all the note 3's feature like air gestures and s pen features and apps?
I recently rooted my s4 (I9500 international) and I installed cwm recovery. I went into recovery mode and selected backup to see what would happen. Then when I tried rebooting it, it just showed the 'Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500' logo and the screen went black. The same thing happens if I press the power button (no vibration). I kept it for charging but no light appears and nothing shows on the screen. I went into recovery mode and did a factory reset/ data wipe and tried rebooting but there was no change. I tried restore, but it says 'MD5 unmatched' or something like that (can't remember).Also, when I try rebooting from recovery mode, it shows an empty battery pic on the screen with a non moving circle in the middle.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAre you switching from iOS to android or any other OS and having issue with iMessage? here is the fix.
Ok so i switch between iOS and android regularly and usually it is no problem with imessage but this last time was exceedingly difficult.
The obvious is to before you deactivate your iphone go into settings->messages and turn off iMessage. After this is off power cycle the phone so it forces it to reset and reconnect to the network. For some people this fix will be all you need and your messages will just go through as SMS, but not for everyone. One fix i read a lot on apple support boards and around here is to just have people delete your contact....Yea that is a major hassle reaching out to everyone you know with an iPhone and saying hey delete my contact and remake it please. That was a no go for me i even tried it and it did not work anyway. I heard some say to just give it time, tried that waited a week, still was not receiving a lot of messages and people reported it was still trying to go through as imessage.
What i found that worked and worked flawlessly because i tried it twice just to test it and because i like to switch often.
So here is what you do.
1.Turn off iMessage
2.Power Cycle your phone.
3. Call 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)
4.Request Technical support for iphone (sometimes you can say imessage it recognized it once for me but not again)
5. Tell the tech you want to de-register your phone number with iMessage (be insistent as they try to keep you just say you have tried everything else and you need your phone number to be de registered.)
6.Shut the phone off give it 1 minute and then turn it back on once it powers back up you are free to switch to android or windows phone and will get your messages.
The first few messages will take a little longer to come through for a day then it should be good. I have seen this method posted before online but most i read say to just deregister online and turn it off but i have found that does not always work. This is the certain way to remove your phone number from the servers.
I got my wife an S3 for Mother's day and tonight, sat down to transfer all of her data from her S2. I used the Smart Switch app and along with Contacts, pictures ect. I included her apps. Problem is not all of them switched over. I figured i'd just re-download them again from Google Play Store from the S3, however the apps "appear" to be installed. I've check to see if the missing apps were selected as hidden but there's nothing there. I'm unable to uninstall and reinstall again. Her Gmail app isn't even visible anywhere on the device....have I missed a step in doing the switch from S2 to S3? Should I be signing her out of Google Play on the S2, and how to go about signing out of Google Play Store.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy contract with Verizon is up in the middle of February and my wife and I are planning on getting new phones and possibly switching carries (possibly to T-Mobile). Based on what's currently available I think if we stay on Verizon we'll get two Moto Xs, but if we switch to T-Mobile we'll go with the Nexus 5. I try to stay up on tech news, but if any new phones are expected in February or early March I'd be interested in hearing about them. I don't want to wait too long because my iPhone is out of warranty and starting to slowly die (for instance the on/off button no longer works).

View 6 Replies View RelatedFrom the last 2 weeks i have been facing a weird problem with my A57. When ever i am trying to select Wifi, my mobile switch offs. I have to remove the battery and reinsert the battery then again switch on the phone.
It is working fine with DATA Mode, but the only problem is with the Wifi. I have done factory reset but no use.
When I click the option, i get the message "your current apps will become unavailable if you switch".
Will copying the contents of the SD over to the EMMC fix that problem?
Also, is it possible to leave some things installed on the SD? Even if I had to reinstall them. For example, games that take up a lot of space.
The reason I want to do this is because the EMMC is sitting there unused. So I'd like to keep my main apps there, and if possible, put games that take up a lot of space on the SD.
I have this problem with cyanogenmod 9 and miui 4 (based on cm9) I only need the phone to be in 2G mode, but everytime i select "only 2G" under settings - after an hour or two it siwtches back to 3G - and it's annoying as hell. how to force the phone to work in 2G.
View 4 Replies View RelatedGive thumbs up for this nice feature to switch cm-profiles with nfc-tags!! But I would like to go a step further: pure automatic. I think it would be nice to have an module which switches the profiles on defined events (just like the "nfc-event").Triggers for that could be:
* WLAN-Connection to special WLAN
* Position of the phone (display downside )
* NFC-Tags
* Position
* etc.
Is there an app that lets you easily move your apps and info from an old phone to a new one?
