HTC Droid Eris :: External Battery Required As Extra?
Feb 6, 2010
Does anyone think that this external battery would work on the Eris for an extra battery? It has the same connection. DealExtreme: $12.99 1800mAh USB Rechargeable External Battery Pack for HTC Touch Diamond.

The battery life is not too good. But it's tiny after all.I was looking at getting an extra battery. This one: "Seidio Innocell 1750mAh Extended Battery for Verizon HTC Droid Eris" at HTC Depot is $49.95.On eBay,I can get 2 batteries and a wall charger for around $11.But I have a case for the phone and it looks like opening it up every day to change batteries would wear it out very quickly.Does anyone know of an external battery with a (short) cord to the USB/charge port? That could be 4 times the size of an internal battery and still fit in my pocket.

I think the standard battery is 1100mAh (1.1 amps at 3.7V for one hour), which is generally good enough for me, but there have been a few times on travel when an extended battery would have been useful. USB provides 5 (FIVE) volts to the unit, which is regulated down to charge the internal 3.7V single lithium cell. It should be trivial to build a battery pack to recharge any product that is so powered. But you cannot use external lithium because that would also be 3.7V.
I'm thinking of NiMH (nickel metal hydride), each cell of which provides 1.2VDC. Four cells in series would be 4.8V, and there are now 3000mAh (three amp!) AA cells out there, so NiMH AA cells should more than triple battery life for the Eris. Of course, you could use five such cells to get 6.0VDC, then regulate down to 5, but that would add complexity. I didn't find any posts on building such a thing, and wonder if anyone's done it.

Anyone else deal with this, I will use it like 30 seconds prior, lock the screen and go to pick it up and nothing, I have to pull the battery and reboot. Happens a couple times a month maybe, usually happens when I am actually trying to do something. I am currently running on Nonsensikal 8.8 but it did it on Ivans 1.0 and Nonsensikal 7.5 as well. It may have done it on the stock 2.1 rom as well, but I cannot remember. It seems to happen more often now that it is on Froyo though.

In my Android app, I always get VerifyErrors! And I cannot figure out why. Whenever I include a external JAR, I always get VerifyErrors when I try to launch my app (except for once, when I included Apache Log4j.) I usually get around this by taking the source of the library and adding it to my project, but I am trying to put the GData client library (http://code.google.com/p/gdata-java-client/). I can get this in source, but it's dependencies (mail.jar, activation.jar, servlet-api.jar) I cannot, so I get verify errors. I would like to get to the root of this problem once and for all. I looked on the internet, but they all seem to talk about incomplete class files? which I do not know of.

My fiance has already gone through 2 Droid eris well he is on his second one. He had to bring the first one back due to his external speaker sounded blown, and now the replacement one he got is doing the same thing. We were wondering if this is a popular problem and if the next replacement he gets Saturday is going to do the same thing all over again. He never uses the external speaker only for the message alerts. We are both stumped onto why the same thing would happen to both phones. I have the same phone and mine hasnt done it I do have mine on vibrate a lot more then his.

Anyone plan on buying another battery? or know if VZM will offer a external battery charger similar to what I have for my palm? I use my cell phone a lot, and I would like to have one battery fully charged at all times in case I run out or am going out for the night. This is a fail proof method I have used on my palm for years.

After the 2.1 OTA a lot of random photos were thrown in my photo album under separate files, I think one is named something like keyboard...and another one called icons maybe. They are just screen shots of the swype keyboard. I tried to delete them after I dl'd the Nexus Gallery (which is awesome btw thank you Androzoid) but they just came back. Has anyone else had this happen? I haven't tried to delete them yet straight from the SD card to see if that works. Is it okay to delete these or do they serve some purpose?

I'm looking to buy a new battery for my evo to keep in my pocket so that I can switch it out when my OEM battery dies. I've seen the 3500mah seidio coming out, and I don't see how that would work because I NEED a case to protect my phone.I'm not trying to break the bank, looking to spend between 20-30, a regular battery same mAh as the regular would be fine, and preferably the OEM, but I can't seem to really find the OEM anywhere. I even looked for Touch Pro 2 OEM batteries but couldn't find any from quality sellers (sites I recognize and trust).I looked on Ebay and found two batteries and a dock charger for 10 bucks, and I've researched it and they seem to get generally positive reviews, but I'm still no sure about those, as I've heard horror stories about cheap batteries. So can anyone help me with my search for a battery, or possibly suggest some other ideas or give me some other advice? It would be much appreciated.

Is this normal?
Often at night before I go to bed I'll plug it in to the charger, and the 'charging' icon doesn't appear. I left it overnight, and sure enough, it didn't charge.
I powered off, rebooted, and it is now showing the 'charging' icon. This has happened before.

Amazon.com: Genuine Motorola Droid P323 Battery Charger System: Electronics Amazon.com: Motorola BP6X A855 Droid OEM 1300mah Standard Battery: Cell Phones & Service Anyone use these 2 items from Amazon? I'd like to get a second battery and an external charger, this seems like a cheap solution while keeping OEM parts. The only thing I'm really questioning is the voltage output of the external charger to the battery. Any way to tell if it will charger correctly? If you know the answer, please provide reasoning.

Why can't I find a charger for an extra battery? As fast as the battery drains on these phones, it is a pain to have to plug in the whole phone to charge.

Merely turning your phone on may be enough to prevent it from sleeping. What I'm about to tell you is 100% repeatable. I've done it about ten times now; it has happened every time. I'm running the stock Android 2.1 ROM from Sprint. <Background> When Android boots, it preloads a huge number of apps into RAM. Essentially, it's starting JVM processes and loading the classes of applications without actually executing any of their code. Android does this to reduce the lag you would feel when activating one of these apps. These preloaded apps are said to be EMPTY. There's no real penalty for preloading these apps since they're loaded in the background in otherwise idle CPU cycles and their processes will be terminated as needed to free up RAM for applications you begin using. </Background>
Although it should be impossible, one of those preloaded apps is preventing the Hero from sleeping. By process of elimination, I have found which one it is: Footprints.............

we've seen lots of reports of people whose Erises (Erii?) have or are starting to have trackball issues and are unable to properly navigate through Amon_RA's custom recovery. Well, I've been trying to figure-out how to tweak Amon_RA's custom recovery to work without relying on the trackball. Anyway, after a lot of thrashing about, and with some sage guidance from Amon_RA, I was able to modify and recompile Amon_RA's 1.6.2 Eris custom recovery to allow an alternate set of keys to be used in lieu of having / needing to use the trackball--not just for scrolling, but for selection / confirmation! I left-in the support for using the trackball so that it will work either way. Here's the new, alternate key mappings:

Are their any options for any form of external full-sized keyboard for the Eris? It'd be nice to have just one electronic device to bring to school to take notes on. Oh, I don't know if this matters, but I'm still on 1.5.

I am planning on getting the EVO come June 4th to replace my HD2, and I am wondering if there are any solar chargers available on the market for this unit. Since I will be having a case on the unit, I dont want to be having to open the back cover all the time to replace the battery whenever its dead. maybe a good external battery backup might do the job.

Big selling feature for the Moment over the iPhone is swapable batteries. I'd like to keep the phone with me at all times, and just swap in batteries. But I can not find an EXTERNAL battery charger. Google search only turned up a "universal" charger where the contacts are manipulated to match up with the battery. Not a good option. Anyone have a source for an external battery charger which I can use to charge spare batteries without using the phone?

I posted this at another forum as well. I am not spamming, I just want to sell this because I no longer need it. I'm not sure if this is in the correct area, I am sorry if it is in the wrong area, but I am selling an Eris battery that I bought as an extra. I swapped out to a Droid and forgot about the battery. It was put on our bill, so it's paid for and I would like to pass some savings on to a member here. I only used this battery twice, two days. Asking $25.00 with shipping included to US addresses only. Paypal only on this as well.

I just got the Droid 2 after using Blackberry phones for many years. I had the Blackberry Curve, and then went to the Blackberry Tour. For other users that have switched from a Blackberry, what sorts of things should I be aware of that might have been something I took for granted on a Blackberry that might require more of a work around on a Droid? I'm trying to get fully integrated to google apps for simplicities sake. I know there's the Push email thing, but I'm hoping just using everything through GMail will help that problem. I transferred my calender to Gmail from my Blackberry by exporting it to a Yahoo in syncing, and then going to Yahoo and exporting it to Outlook CSV, and then importing the CSV to Google.

Rooted tonight, and playing with ROM Manager and Bugless Beast V0.4 (Froyo). I'm wondering when installing a ROM using RM, it asks if you want to do a backup and wipe before installing. I have already done a backup and don't really want to start over with a completely blank slate once Bugless is installed. Is it possible to just install a ROM without doing a wipe first? If possible, should it still be avoided to prevent issues? Basically just wondering if a full wipe is needed/recommended before installing a new ROM.

This is more a question for those who have experience with rooted phones. For me, the biggest feature of Sense UI is how smooth it is in terms of transitions between screens, scrolling within things such as the Apps menu, etc. (couldn't really care less about the social networking integration).
Now, there are some homescreen apps out right now that are definitely (in my opinion) better in these regards than the standard Android UI, but they all still fall short of what Sense (or Rachael or even MotoBlur) has achieved.
Is this same smoothness, though, something that can be achieved if/when (since it really is just a matter of time) people figure out how to root the Droid and make custom ROMs?

Well, not sure if this was already somewhere else, but I looked and couldn't find it, so I'm gonna ask here...
What are the required APKs to maintain running the Android OS? I have root access on my Eris, and was tinkering around with a bit with removing some of the preinstalled APKs such as YouTube and stuff like that, just wondering how much I can delete and work to create my own system to a certain extent. Anyone that can let me know what I need would be nice.
