Jul 7, 2013My Galaxy S3 is frequently getting into hotboot looping state for no apparent reason. The only way to get it out of this state is to wipe the phone or restore a backup of the "data" folder only. After that, it might work for a week, but it might not work for a day (not work = start to hotboot loop). It happens when after the phone screen is locked, it doesn't wake up anymore. It doesn't answers to any calls (like if it's off) or notifications.Forcing a reboot (by holding the power button) or removing the battery able me to reboot it, but enter in hotboot looping state. I can make it go thru the whole booting state and I see the homescreen (And that's weird because I'm supposed to see the lockscreen first). Some widgets animation works but the device doesn't answer to touch (two softbuttons vibrates when touched, they do vibrate but don't render anything on Android) and then hotboots. Keeps doing this forever. Booting into safemode USED to work, but it doesn't work anymore, I don't know why.
After wiping the device or restoring the Data backup, device turns on as expected (restoring data takes it back to working state exactly like it was before the backup, even the same lockscreen pattern). I've tried to leave a terminal running logcat to catch the error, but it doesn't write in realtime, so when the bug breaks out, the logfile is empty.
I even thought it could be the S3 memory issue with firmware, but I'm using the "fixed" kernels. Also, it is recoverable, and not permanently dead.
I suspect of some rogue app, but I have too many apps to just go through installing one by one (and waiting even weeks to install the other one). Is there any way I can get a postmortem logfile or make logcat write in realtime?
General :: Galaxy Ace - Stuck In Boot Loop For Unknown Reason?
Feb 17, 2014My Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) running under a custom ROM The Ultimatum (I've been using this custom firmware for a few weeks now, with no real problems up until now), is bootlooping with no apparent reason. On a rare occasion, most apps on the phone stopped responding and would crash upon opening, and would require a restart before they worked again. Well this happened to me a few hours ago, so I decided to reboot my phone. After coming back to check my phone, I had found it was still booting. This has gone on for several hours now, and I've tried turning it on and off, removing batteries and everything. It's stuck in boot loop. I found this was odd, as I have had no dramas with the firmware I've been using. I have not made ANY recent changes to the phone whatsoever, so I can hardly believe it would be my fault.
how do I fix this without wiping all data and installing a clean ROM? I have a lot of stuff in the internal storage I can't afford to lose, and it's really important to me.

HTC Droid Eris :: Call Seems To Be Generated By Itself For No Reason
Jan 17, 2010I have had several calls made from my HTC Droid Eris when I have not made the call. The call seems to generate by itself for no reason. Am I doing something wrong ? Is there a way to lock down the 'call' mode so that it can't just make a call by itself. I know it sounds crazy, but I swear that the phone makes calls by itself.

I was surprised that I didn't receive any emails today, then I checked my computer and saw that I had several. So I hit refresh on my phone a they popped up in my inbox. Jan 9, 2010I've been reading about the Eris battery life issues on this and other forums. Even with all the tweaks that users have applied to it, the Eris continues to have a rep for bad battery life. Its a bit odd that the Eris gets worse battery life than the Moto Droid which has a larger screen and more processing power, don't you think? I've also read that Eris reception is not that great, that the Droid gets 3G reception when the Eris can't etc.
These issues (battery life and reception) lead me to wonder if they are related. Perhaps the Eris has a weak antenna, or bad antenna placement? This would lead it to have worse reception than other smart phones and also worse battery life because it would have to apply more juice to the antenna to reach the cell phone towers. I've attached a poll to see if there is any correlation between bad battery life and bad reception.
Android :: HTC Incredible Does Not Vibrate On Received Emails Or Text Messages
May 18, 2010I have my phone up in the settings for both email and for text messages to give me a vibrate alert on any text or emails. All I get is the audible ring and no vibration. It is the same on incoming calls. The vibrate works if I turn the ringer off and go to vibrate mode, but it won't work with the ringer.

What I've noticed is that while I can see the phone-numbers of people in my contacts list people whose number I do not have show up as, bear with me, "Unknown". When I navigate to "Call History", (Say a friend whose number I don't have calls me). I can't add their number to my contact list. This is an increasingly frustrating problem for me. I'll navigate to the "Call History" screen and find that there's no way for me to identify what numerical-phone number called me. There will simply be the designation; "Unknown", while holding down on the entry (while the time/length of the call can be viewed). There is no way to add nor even view, the again, [Unknown] number to my contact list. Phones are ultimately communication devices, if I can't find a solution, well, I'm convinced that I'm going to have to down-grade from a smart-phone to something capable of recording and adding unknown numbers.

Every single one of my contacts in my call history is listed as unknown even though I have them all in "people". May 18, 2010I still haven't received the update. I'm in the greater Los Angeles, CA area. I also bought the phone when it first came out but that shouldn't matter. Anyone else not receive it yet?
One thing I'm speculating is 'Background Data.' Do I need to leave that on to receive the update? I leave it off and only turn it on when I'm browsing the Market. All I need to leave on is '3G Mobile Network' right? I don't leave it on 24/7 so maybe I was supposed to receive it OTA but my 3G was off.
It's really bugging me that all the people I know that own a crappy Eris already received the update and I'm still sitting here with an expired 1.5 cupcake...

Dec 12, 2009Did a search, didn't find what I'm looking for. I have only one email account, a gmail account, set up on my Eris. I would have my Yahoo set up as well, but for some reason it says my account info is wrong. Anyway, I get 1 notification for each of the email systems in the phone. 1 seems to be through HTC or a widget or something, 1 is the gmail app or whatever it's called. I've only had this phone for 3 days, and I love it. If it's any help, I'd like to only use the htc one as the keyboard seems more responsive as far as the auto-correction goes, and the layout is more simple and easier for me to read.

Jul 14, 2010After fighting the silent bug for a while - I asked for a replacement that I received today. (The box said "Like-new Certified".) It came with 2.1, PCD: 06/28/2010, So I did not do Factory reset. I synced with google, I got all my contacts, with icons, e-mails and calendar back.
I reinstalled googe voice, AK notepad and swype beta.
Most important difference: The Available space (memory) is 131Mb now, whereas on the old phone it was 91 Mb. It seems I have one more bars, but I could be mistaken. (I wish I wrote down what I had before...) How do I check for the 50% bug? I will keep an eye of the silent bug shows up.

HTC Droid Eris :: Email App And Downloading Emails
Jan 26, 2010I set my gmail account with the email icon/app on my home screen.I did it with the POP/IMPAP option because the other one wouldn't work (don't know what either of those mean).My problem is I can't get it to download my emails by itself. I have to go in and refresh. I have set it to check every 5mins and to alert me but it just wont unless I refresh. I'm assuming there's somthing I'm missing.Also, I just discovered there's a gmail app in that list that gets the emails instantly. It will make a sound with a new email, but I have to go to that list then to the gmail app to check.What I want is to be notified of my emails and have some icon be it the email one or the gmail one on my home page that lets me know I have an email.The other thing is the youtube app, but its seems lots of people are having that trouble.Also, how do I sync access my gmail contacts on my phone on either the gmail app or the email app. I can't see contacts on either right now.
