View 4 RepliesUsed PdaNet in the past under the free trial without much problem, was told not to upgrade to avoid the blocking of https and to do backup with astro to save that feature.. switched to a different phone for awhile and just came back to the eris still had pdanet installed but had removed from pc and had to reinstall there.. I can log into alot of site with user/pass but not yahoo or ebay (the two I need most) When I re-installed on pc it also reinstalled on phone. Did this mess things up? WHen I go into astro the only options now are to uninstall or browse file.. Is there any way to get back to where I was? Is USB tethering an option with a rooted phone?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to tether my phone to my computer using that option the phone gives you when you plug it in via miniUSB. Windows XP does not find any drivers when I tell it to look for them. Is there some program or place I can get them?
I was told that with root you could go around programs like EasyTether and PDAnet which don't allow you to go to https sites.
Currently I have an Eris with v3 Leak meaning I can't root. But my wife loves my phone so I plan on giving her mine and either getting another eris and rooting or a Moto Droid and rooting. I've been trying to read up on the Droid and the different ROMS available and have some questions.First I want to make a few things clear:
1. This IS NOT a phone comparison.
2. The Incredilble IS NOT an option since it can't be rooted and I don't want to spend $200 on it.
3. I'm looking for WELL INFORMED OPINIONS, if you don't have one keep moving there is nothing to see here.
To be fair I've obviously done a lot more reading on the Eris which is why I'm looking for well informed opinions from Droid owners that way I can make a well informed decision.
Hey everyone, I have a couple of simple questions regarding root. I have never rooted a phone before but I'm sure I can figure it out. I don't need to do anything fancy with my phone but Wifi tethering sounds like it would be worth taking the plunge. I have been following the bugs and fixes thread about the 2.1 leak and the only think that initially kept me from installing the leak was everyone saying that the phone would randomly go completely silent. Does this also happen with the newest root ROM? Also, just to make sure I know what exactly what WiFi tethering is, will I be able to tether my WiFi if I get rooted and set up WiFi tethering?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a good tethering app so my wife can get her iTouch on line when we're on the road. I thought i had found a good one, but realized it only works on windows. I guess I have to download a program on the windows PC for it to work. So I'm hoping for one that will just work on anything. Does anyone know of an app? Or do I have to root my phone first?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my Nexus 4 using the Nexus Root Toolkit and now i've noticed that I can not tether my phone to my laptop. Before rooting, USB tethering worked without a problem. My Nexus 4 is on the T-Mobile 3GB Simple Choice plan -3gb data and tethering.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell I saw the thread in here about tethering and trying to fix the speed problem. I did not want to high jack his thread with my question so I made my own thread. Can someone please explain tethering to me?
View 49 Replies View RelatedBefore the update from 1.5, I had no issues tethering my MacBook through my Droid Eris with PDANet. The phone function of the handset was the only operation that would interrupt the signal.
Since the update, my Eris interrupts my internet frequently, without apparent reason. It begins the annoying cycle of kicking me off the web, alerting me that the phone was not ejected properly, mounting, launching iPhoto (which I cannot prevent from happening), and then I have to exit PDANet and relaunch so I can reconnect. It's a juggling act! Sometimes this cycle will repeat five or six times before the phone and computer settle down.
Has anyone got this to work on 2.2 (non-rooted) without the usb cable. Am I missing something? It has been greyed out for me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAnyone else had the experience of internet speed with PDAnet being maple syrup slow? I mean, obviously the Eris is not the fastest phone anyway, but there are, confusingly, times when it's actually quite fast. As a corollary to this question, are there ways to increase 3G/tethering speed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that this is sort of stupid thing not to know, but how do you actually set up the link between the Eris and the desktop when using Wireless Tether? I went through the Wireless network Setup and I even went through Network Setup Wizard and Network Connections and still haven't been able to figure out how to actually initiate wireless tetherthing through wi-fi. I'm sure that it's something bonehead that I haven't considered. The only time I've set up networks is with the help of ISP tech support or the ISP setup CD.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering. It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I rooted my phone. Mind you, I didn't have HUGE lag issues like most before I rooted. Just the minor complaints that most had.I'm currently running Plain Jane v2 with a2sd and OC. I'm clocking at 710/528, yet my phone is laggier than ever. I'm at my wits end trying to get this phone to work at a substantial speed before I go off to college. At some points my phone seems really super-snappy, but those moments are short lived.Linpack averages that my MFLOPS is about 0.96 at all times. I read that the standard for the eris is 3.0, and I'm unsure why my phone is running this slow.Does someone know some tricks, or a rom that may help my phone out? I'm dying to just have something to make my phone usable. Thanks a ton.
