A while back I read that Verzion Android devices apps will have to go thru the Verizon Market, meaing that all apps has to be approved by Google AND Verizon. Can you sideload apps on Verzion Android devices?

I had an edited png for the market icon in the vending apk but when I applied my edited png's to Ivans rom with the market fix it seems to have changed the icon back to the original market Icon. When I first loaded the rom it showed my edited png for the market icon but after my first reboot it seems to change the icon back to the original. I assume that the market is updating upon reboot so I pulled the vending apk off my phone and my edited png's are still there but its still showing the original market icon. Anybody else with an edited market icon notice this or any ideas of why its going back to original? I have tried this a couple times and it always updates after first reboot...
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I've been having issues with my Droid X and downloads in the Market not starting, I've had to do a few data resets to fix the problem. I recently called Verizon complaining and they sent me out a replacement Droid X. The first app that I installed was Launcher Pro and then downloaded quite a few more apps. A few hours later I tried download more apps and they have again gotten stuck on "starting download". I called Verizon tech support and explained what was going on, he then proceeded to tell me that he can guarantee that Launcher Pro is the cause of the problems and that I need to delete it. He claims that it does not work properly with the X. I told him that I got an X on July 1 and did not have a problem with the Market until recently and he again said that LP is causing the problem. Has anyone else heard of this, it makes no sense at all.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSkype mobile for Verizon was launched this morning in the Android Market.Those with existing Skype accounts will have no problems setting up.People who dont have a Skype account can either set one up with the mobile app or set one up using the desktop software.I've been using it for a few hours now and I like it.It gives me my buddy list so that I can talk to all of my Skype friends, it allows me to use Skype to speak to other Skype users all over the country for free and even those without Skype numbers at a discounted rate.I have Skype with call out unlimited on my netbook for home and travel, I just use my netbook to make calls from my home.I think its a great application, anyone else whos using it now I'm interested in seeing what you think.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been rooted with Droid Mod forever and have never had any issues or never tried other roms it worked so I've stayed with it. Anyway I was screwing around trying to fix a problem and did a nandroid back up and and restore ( i'm clueless) Did not wipe info (that scares me) and I reflashed the rom a couple times because I kept selecting or deselecting the wrong things. Finally got everything perfect. The phone seemed to like the mini overhaul. But when I rebooted the market apk is gone. No where to be found. All my apps are there but no icon for market. Its just gone. Can I get that, download it desktop, mount, and drag to phone somewhere?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI hate to compare it to apple, but let's face it, that's all it will ever be compared to.I have an itouch that I used religiously before I got my Eris a while back and as most of you probably know, the apple app store can keep you busy for hours. Every day there are new apps, but most importantly there are always a new list of their featured apps.My question is why for the last few months have we been starring at the same featured apps from android? These include Reality browser, personal assistant, hoccer, google goggles, wordpress, cnet scan and shop, ustream, usaa mobile, zagat, car locator, movies, handcent sms.I could be totally wrong, but it just feels like I've seen these apps all to many times. Is it my phone? Also I wish there was a way to view top-downloaded apps for the day or week.I feel like any new android apps don't have the ability to reach popularity because there is not system for most popular downloads. When you sort through, they're all the same...facebook, myspace, backgrounds, yellow pages etc. etc. etc.

Any thoughts here on how to get these apps working on a 2.1 Eris?

Well...no luck. Been two days now and the problem is continuing. I can't even open the market up. Any suggestions? I am running 2.1leakv2 (I know I know v2...I just didn't want to update because it would wipe my entire phone again, and I have absolutely no problems with v2 other than this now).

how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?

There are some apps that I cannot find in the market that use to be there in 1.5, whats with that?.. although there are some apps in the 2.1 market that are there that never were there in 1.5, like bluetooth file sharing app, Torque bluetooth vehicle engine diagnostics, etc.Looking for skype in the market, it's nowhere to be found from what I seen on the vzw moto - Droid commercial, it's suppose to be there. There's a few apps that I can't think of at the moment that I know are in the market but don't show up on the market of my phone since I updated it,is anyone else experiencing something like that?

Market requires the minSdkVersion to be set in AndroidManifest.xml.
But my manifest has the line : <uses-sdk minSdkVersion="2" /> and I also tried even <uses-sdk minsdkversion="2" />... I try to put this line : as the first child of manifest, as the last child and also right after application.. Is there a hidden rule I don't know ...

View 17 Replies View RelatedI've been using a nice widget called "Timeriffic". You can set up different notification profiles. 6:30 - 10:30pm I get all notifications. After 10:30pm I only get phone calls. Are you aware of a application that does this for email, wireless and other services as well? Was thinking it would be nice to set up a profile that stopped email polling at specific times to save battery life. I usually put the phone into airplane mode...but would like something automatic.
