Just got my Desire and having problems (like a lot of others) sending emails. My googlemail account is fine but my pop3 account with Pipex will only receive. I have checked and have the same outgoing settings as my home pc (smtp.dsl.pipex.com) but this doesn't work. Someone suggested I used smtp.orange.co.uk but got the message cannot connect to server.

this has probably been asked loads b4 but I have set up my Tiscali email and receive messages fine but when replying or try sending i get "your non local IP address is not allowed to send mail via me" I can send fine with gmail but its still annoying me. i contacted Tiscali and they were about as much use as a chocolat fireguard!

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I've just started having many SMS failures when trying to send via my Desire handset on the Orange UK network. I've put the sim in another phone and the messages send (and receive) fine. I've done a factory reset and still the problem remains - 'SMS unable to send' notification. Eventually on a retry it seems they do send (sometimes coming through twice) but it's something that has only just started happening.
As I say I tried a factory reset and the problem remains using either the stock sms client or indeed Handcent. I also noticed before the reset when I restarted the phone it would take upto 5 minutes to achieve any phone signal at all - after the restart it finds it almost immediately.
Excuse me if this is due to my poor understanding of mobile internet.When in my office at work the signal bars on my phone will be either 2 or 3 out of 4. The 3G icon is also present.When, For example, I try to go onto the Market the connection seems very poor. The 3G icon will get the arrows showing that 3G data is being transferred and sometimes it will drop down to a H icon.I then get the message "A network error has occurred, retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen".This happens with all other apps, internet etc as well.I bought the phone with a orange PAYG from Carphone warehouse and put my Orange Monthly pay sim in.When I am outside or even in a different area of the office the internet works fine.If my phone was showing 1 bar and no 3G icon I would accept that it is just too bad signal in the office but as I have nearly full signal and the 3G icon is there another problem?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIm not sure if its the orange network that might be at fault or the phone? It was happening when I was running it on Orange branding quite a lot, it seems to be doing it less now with the standard ROM but still is.
Whats happening;
On occasion when I send a text (with seemingly strong reception) it instantly says its failed. I know when I manually send it again people tell me that they received it more than once. That to me makes it look like the phone is sending the message but saying it failed.
A few weeks ago I registered for that network thing, back then I was using the HTC Hero. At first it would work, then if I turned my phone work, it would say "Sim can not be registered to this Network" and when I searched for other Networks, only Orange would appear.
When I got the Desire, I can never seem to get this to work still. Orange has terrible signal in my area although there site says its amazing. I never have network in my own home. and Im not sure I have ever saw full bars on my Desire.
So my question is, does yours work 24/7 if you have it. Does anyone else get the sim not registered thing after a reboot and how can I actually set it up properly cause I may be doing it wrong. p.s I have roaming n etc on
On my plan I have 500mb internet usage & unlimited push email. I currently use K9 to get my mail from 2 POP ac's but the downloads from these come from my 500mb data rather than the unlimited push allowance.

Problem is, whilst I receive my emails, I cannot send emails. To be honest, this is not an area that I am very good at, so I might be missing something daft. When I use my Hero to go on the internet via my wifi at home- when it connects to my wireless router- does that count towards the 500mb or is that totally free? If so, is it the 3G when I don't have a wifi connection available that goes towards that 500mb? Sorry if it's a little obvious, but I don't wanna be going over my limit on internet and be paying a stupidly high amount!

1. He is on my Facebook contact. (His facebook pic appears in my Desire contact list)
2. He is my Gmail contact as well.
3. He is added as a 'Phone Contact' as well.
I sent him a text few days ago but don't remember if it was using facebook or my phone (network provider sms) but now when I go in to 'Messages' and send him a message, I just can't figure out if I am sending him a message via Facebook or to his mobile number.
I have my work email setup in the email app. Ive never had an issue sending email on any phone ive had before.
All of my settings are correct and i can receive them fine.
They just sit in outbox and whenever i go select them all and tell it to send selected messages nothing happens. They don't send and I don't get any error or anything.
This isn't a /major/ problem but it will irritate me if I can't find a solution! How can I get rid of all the game demos that Orange have so thoughtfully installed on my Desire? I've had a look in Settings > Applications but the Uninstall option for these doesn't show up.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?
I've seen this problem on a bunch of other android phones but nothing specifically for wildfire.
When sending MMS I keep getting a notification saying 'message not sent. generic network failure' until it eventually aborts altogether.
I think the problem is at least partly coz I'm using an unlocked vodaphone handset on orange, so the APN isn't properly configured.
Ideally can somebody with a Wildfire or similar model on Orange give me the correct APN settings from your phone? Or at least link me where to find them - it sounds like every other provider has the details on their website but can't find anything on orange.co.uk

At the time I declined as I wanted to get used to the phone and avoid any issues with the Orange branded 2.2. Two days ago I decided to update, however whenever I check for updates my desire says there are no updates and that it is up to date. Has anyone else experienced this and know how I can get 2.2?

View 17 Replies View RelatedI often find myself wanted to text a message...either text or perhaps a picture attachment through the Messaging service...to not only a mobile number but to an EMAIL ADDRESS as well. I have a couple friends who prefer getting pictures on their computer instead of their phone so I might address the MMS to a few mobile phone number and then want to enter an EMAIL ADDRESS in my text message. On my old phone..as a matter of fact ALL my previous phones (Palm Centro, Couple Samsungs, Sanyo, etc...both smartphones and not-so-smart phones) I was able to type in, e.g., my name "Scott" and popup would show not only my mobile number but my EMAIL ADDRESS to select to use as an address in my SMS or MMS message.
HOWEVER, my my EVO, if I type in a contact name that has an associated email address ONLY THE MOBILE NUMBER comes up as a possible address for my text message. If I want to send to an email address (which you CAN do...text to email works fine...and vice versa) I have to M-A-N-U-A-L-L-Y type the whooooooole email address each and every time. I do NOT think there is a "setting" to change this but IS there a setting or some sort of workaround trick so that when I type a contact name with an email address the EMAIL OPTION is available in a text message "To" field??
I alternate between two wifi networks on my HTC Desire running Android 2.2 ( I think!)On one network I need to specify the network IP/subnet/Gateway and so on, on the other network I can use DHCP.Is there any way to tell Android that whenever I connect to one wifi network it should use the static IP and on the other it should get an IP automatically?I am forever going into advanced wifi settings and changing them back and forth. I'd love for my phone to remember the settings used on each wifi profile.

I have changed all my settings to vibrate too. Also when I go to look up a contact to send a text to someone I have double entries Sim and Phone. Does anyone know how I can get the SIM entry to disappear?

I have a Desire scheduled to arrive on Friday from Orange (their �160 cashback via Quidco really tipped the balance), but if the branding causes huge problems I might prefer to reject the phone and save myself a lot of grief.

View 28 Replies View RelatedI want to get a smartphone to upgrade my Nokia 6230, yes you heard it right Nokia 6230. I am a light user, mainly want to have a device that I can browse the net if/when needed in trains, while out, etc. Any voice plan will do for me. O2 would be the best option as I have broadband with them (discount monthly). Last weekend I played with HTC HD7. CPW/o2 shop didn't have a DHD demo, but I could 'feel' the dummy handset. The both look nice, but I think the problem for me is the screen size which is massive. The Desire Z looks great but i am a bit concerned with the hinge snapping up and therefore end up with a broken phone. Having said that, I am very very inclined to go for the STD Desire.
1) Good deal on quidco at the moment (orange contract): Is it true that the HTC Desire warranty on Orange is only 1-year compared to other networks at 2-years?
2) Is the Orange SW bloatware or have they made available a plain Froyo 2.2 version?
3) Do I invalidate warranty if I unlock the phone? (Apparently Orange offers the service for �20 after 3-months in contract.
