May 28, 2010I've had my desire for around a month now & had no real problems with it, flashed it with a stock ROM initially & then rooted it a couple of days after the root was released. When I woke up this morning I was connected to my WiFi network but when I tried to load a webpage, nothing happens, it comes up with the stock 'Web page not available' page. I tried a couple of web pages but got the same response, I thought it might be my WiFi network but when I got to work, exactly the same thing happens. I can connect via GPRS when I disable the WiFi with no problem. I've been using Y5 Battery Saver for the past two weeks, not sure if that's relevant. Is this a standard error / known bug, how would I go about fixing this, not having WiFi is obviously a bit of pain!
OK, installed a Terminal emulator over 3G & ran a couple of commands, including dmesg. From the output of dmesg it looks like the WiFi connects but then something goes wrong, here's a brief transcript:

HTC Desire : Unexpectedly Reboots - When Connected Through 3G - Not WIFI
Jun 10, 2010I have discovered an error in my phone which seems to occur only when connected through 3G (not WIFI).
What happens is the following: I turn/have the phone with 3G on and turn on the youtube app. I click on a movie and the whole phone completely reboots immediately; i.e. I get the whole "HTC quietly brilliant" intro screen and have to enter my PIN again.
I have downloaded a log scanner and ran through the above specified actions (phone rebooted again) and it saved everything that happened according to the log. When wanting to send the log to my e-mail, the phone rebooted immediately again(!). I turned it on again, shut 3G off and went on WIFI. After this I sent the log to my e-mail. No problems. My sister has a Desire as well and has no such problem...
So, now I have this log and was hoping someone would let me send it to him/her and have a look at it to find a clue as to what's wrong.. Maybe I have to bring the phone back or maybe it can be solved in a less troublesome way (read: I can keep this wonderful apparatus with me...!

Aug 29, 2010I have 2 email ac's Tesco & Wanadoo (Orange). I can receive fine but I can't send, keep getting server errors on both ac's all the time. For the outgoing settings do I use the Tosca & Wanadoo (i.e smtp.tesco.net) or do I use my mobile network provider settings?

Oct 29, 2010My HTC Desire (UK) has been find ever I had it, no issues whatsoever. Recently updated the Android software and ever since then I can only access the web/market etc when connected through wifi.
My signal bar simply shows bars whereas in the past it had either a G, 3G or H next to it, and I'm guessing this is linked into the problem.

Sep 8, 2010I use a POP email (btconnect). When I am connected via Wifi I can send emails without any problem. When there is no Wifi and I only have a 3G signal I cannot get emails to send. I keep getting the error message that the email cannot be sent as the settings are incorrect. Running Android 2.2

Oct 8, 2010The H symbol is displayed at the top of the screen and the arrows occasionally flash. The 'up arrow' flashes more often than the 'down arrow'. I have at least 2-4 bars reception.
However when I try to browse there is a 'data connectivity problem' and websites will not load. None of my apps, gmail, facebook etc will sync.
I am on t-mobile.
Fixes I have tried:
- turn on/off
- APN settings check
- Airplane mode
Have spent hours looking at other 3g threads, but have not found an identical problem. My phone says im connected to 3g ('H'), but will not update email or let me access websites on the browser.

Jun 29, 2010Just got my Desire and having problems (like a lot of others) sending emails. My googlemail account is fine but my pop3 account with Pipex will only receive. I have checked and have the same outgoing settings as my home pc (smtp.dsl.pipex.com) but this doesn't work. Someone suggested I used smtp.orange.co.uk but got the message cannot connect to server.

Nov 22, 2010I've checked the various forums and it appears that others have the same issue as I do. Basically, when I am connected to WiFi, I cannot send emails. When not connected to WiFi, I can send emails. This is a case for my email account with Shaw Cable (my home Internet provider). I have no problems sending emails from my Hotmail account on WiFi or not. The reason appears to be that my wireless carrier, Bell Canada, does not allow me to use my home Internet provider's (Shaw Cable) SMTP server to send emails. If I am on WiFi on my home email, I can send emails via Shaw's SMTP server. If I am not on WiFi, I have to use my wireless carrier's (Bell) SMTP server to send emails.
However, If I do this, when I use my WiFi at home, Shaw does not allow me to use Bell's SMTP server to send emails. The way I can always send emails where ever I am is if my email app only uses my wireless carrier to send emails. The email app on my phone, the Desire Z, will always use WiFi if it is available. Only if WiFi is not available will it use my wireless carrier. I cannot seem to find a way to force my email app to only use my wireless carrier. If someone figured out otherwise, please let me know. I have recently switched to an HTC Desire Z from a Nokia N97. When I had the N97 (which runs Symbian), I have always been able to send and receive email where ever I am. For web browsing, it uses WiFi if it is available and switches to my wireless carrier if not.
I am very disappointed that it appears the Desire Z is not able to do the same (unless there is a way and I just haven't figured it out). I have managed to figure out a workaround to my situation. If I send an email from my home, I will simply turn off WiFi. After sending my email, I'll turn WiFi back on. Although this works, this is just really combersome. Even though I'm at home, I do not always have my PC on to send emails and I am not going to wait several minutes for my PC to turn on so I can send an email. If it is a short email, I would rather reply via my phone rather than turn on my computer. Although manually toggling WiFi for sending emails is not too combersome, my expectation from a smartphone as advanced as the Desire Z is that I do not have to do that.

Nov 22, 2010I am having some difficulties with syncing my Shaw Cable email account while not on WiFi. If I'm on a WiFi network, I have no difficulties with email. However,I noticed that when I'm away from my WiFi network at home, I cannot sync with this email account. I get a "Network error" alert.
With Hotmail, I have no difficulties at all. My Hotmail account is able to sync where ever I go whether on or off WiFi. I'm currently with Bell (Canada). I used to own a Nokia N97 and had no difficulties with Shaw on that phone.

I was willing to find a way to use one as gmail does when the device connects to the Internet. (The "loading" icon on the top while it syncs mails) Is it ACTION_SYNC what I am looking for? I sent him a text few days ago but don't remember if it was using facebook or my phone (network provider sms) but now when I go in to 'Messages' and send him a message, I just can't figure out if I am sending him a message via Facebook or to his mobile number.

Sep 30, 2010I have my work email setup in the email app. Ive never had an issue sending email on any phone ive had before.
All of my settings are correct and i can receive them fine.
They just sit in outbox and whenever i go select them all and tell it to send selected messages nothing happens. They don't send and I don't get any error or anything.

Jun 6, 2010I just connect my evo with my home network, and it finds network ok and everyting. I even see 4 WiFi signal bars on my evo screen, but no Internet connection. I am using my laptop through that WiFi now without any issue. I am using netgear WGR614 g/bwireless router.

General :: WiFi - Connected But Page Not Available?
May 4, 2012I wanted to give Android a try after having an iPhone for about 4 years now (1st generation iPhone). I decided to go with a used "China" phone - Hero h300 because I didn't want to splurge and find out that Android wasn't for me. So far I do like it but I am running version 2.2.1 (Froyo) and am having an issue with the WiFi connection. I'll initially connect and after a random span of time it will start failing to load pages when browsing or the market will report that there was an error (or lost connection) even though the phone still shows a WiFi connection.
I do not have a data plan and am using WiFi for connection and have setup the phone to use the WiFi instead of Sim data connection. I use WPA/WPA2 PSK security for the wireless network. If I turn off WiFi and turn it back on (on the phone), it will reconnect and work for a while but the problem comes back. So while I "surf" the internet or Market, I have to constantly turn the WiFi on and off.
What can I check or try to resolve this issue? I actually had bought this phone because the iPhone's WiFi was going loopy (it would just scan and scan and scan and never find any networks - even if it was literally sitting next to the wireless router) - so it's kind of ironic that the main problem I have with this phone turns out to be it's WiFi

Jan 16, 2012I have a Droid X running Gingerbread, and there is one particular WiFi spot that seems to hate me. It's a WiFi router owned by a friend of mine, WPA encrypted. I have the SSID and the password, I can connect to the router. And my network icon turns blue indicating that I have a connection to the Google services. But I can't browse the web, I cannot send/receive email and I cannot use any other app that uses data. Another friend with an iPhone has no problems. My iPod Touch has no problems, but the stuff I want to use is on the Droid.
Two additional kickers to this: My late and unlamented Blackberry had the same problem His router is the same brand (and I think model) as mine and I have zero problems with mine.
General :: WiFi Connected But No Internet?
Nov 27, 2012I live in India. I had purchased a new TP LINK wifi + modem router last week. The modem works great as I access internet using my PC ( ethernet connection broadband) . I tried connecting WIFI using my android, but even when connected I don't get internet on my device.

Android :: Unknown Host When Connected In WiFi

It works quite fine when connected with 3G/3G+. Sometimes, not very often, I get a "SocketException no route to host" or "unknown host" exception when trying to connect. When I'm connected with WIFI, it works sometimes and it's very fast, but the same error occurs very often, and when it has occurred I must restart my WiFi to be able to connect again, even with webbrowser. I use apache commons FTPClient this way:

It looks like having forgot something that makes connection down after several uses of my ftp program, but what? And why does this work quite well (but not always) with 3G/EDGE connection?

Aug 29, 2010Is there a way to fix this? I have WiFi set to never sleep and it is connected. Why is 3G even trying to connect when I am on WiFi. I know 3G trying to find a signal will kill my battery because my signal is really bad at home.

I understand that when the phone goes to sleep it shuts off it's WiFi thats fine although I'd rather it not but eh whatcha gonna do about it. The problem I have is that after it wakes back up it says that it's scanning for networks. I have a lot of WiFi networks in my neighborhood and none of them show up. The work around I've found for this for the time being is to shut the WiFi off and then turn it back on. When I do this it connects back to my WiFi and life goes on.

Sep 27, 2010Is anyone having issues with WiFi? I am using a WiFi widget to get connected. It shows connected but there isn't a IP assigned to it? Their on the widget shows 0.0.0.0. Any idea what is happening? I've tried countless times to forget the network and re-connect but still this doesn't work. My wife's on iPhone and hers connect seamlessly. Any idea what could be conflicting my connection? I am using WiFi widget by Robert Burger. It's a nice and simple widget and I don't think that is the problem. For connections, I have to disable the WiFi before I can get online.

Nov 20, 2010I recently purchased a GTI-i9000. GPS on it is terrible and I have ready many forums with other users experiencing the same problems. I was thinking, and wanted to clear up a cloudy understanding. On my previous phone (iPhone 3G), when I was not connected to WiFi, I was still able to browse webpages etc, albeit slowly. Is that called GPRS? The form of data?
On my Galaxy, I cannot do this at all. If I am not connected to a WiFi connection, I have 0 internet. I'm just wondering if this is the cause of my dodgy GPS. Is there a setting i need to change or does the SGS not do internet if you're not connected to WiFi. I live in Australia if that helps at all.
