HTC Desire :: Adding And Uninstalling Apps Loseing Memory?
Apr 15, 2010
i uninstalled an app from ther htc desire and noticed they dont get the full memory back. some apps i get it all back but i noticed with swype unistalling i didnt get full memory back and copilot possibly a few others so it must be leaving leftovers of the app in my memory taking up valuable space.is ther a way to find and delete left over files from installs on the htc?

Just switched from a blackberry for the past 3 years to the eris. Loving the phone loving android its amazing compared to my storm1. Just a couple basic questions to ask real quick.
1. App memory. On my blackberry I got into the habit of constantly checking my app memory. I have about 12 apps installed and jump around 30-55 available memory. Should I be worried about my app memory and keep freeing it up?
2. How many apps do you all have installed I see tons of apps I want but I tend to uninstall them because of app memory.

Just installed an app that's 222kb and it took up 3megs. Uninstalled it and i got 1 back. What the hell is the deal with that? No wonder the internal memory with android 2.1 clogs up quickly.

Just wondered, it seems that sometimes when you download an app to try and then you remove it, does this completely remove all the files from the internal memory?, im sure i have done this before and it seems i loose a small piece of memory after uninstalling Just wondered if there was a certain uninstaller that completley removes all files & folders?

I've been adding, and uninstalling, I've been noticing some installed apps that I don't seem to be able to add to my screens, or use.
I was wondering what these were.
They are: -
Rosie Utility
Teeter
and
Street View (Okay I KNOW what this one is, but how do I add it to Google Earth/Maps)
Also I've noticed that on the pattern lock screen. There is a message that says, "This phone belongs to". How do I personalise this with my name?

when i use a file manager to install and apk file.when im finished with it when i uninstall i notice it doesnt free up all the memory it took?for example.earlier i installed spiderman game, i cant remember exact numbers... but phone memory before was say 75mb free. installed and it went to 68mb.when i uninstalled it.. my phone memory only went back up to 70mb as i said example so numbers arent right but thts the main idea. so where is this memory going as i can eventually see my memory being taken up by small parts of apps tht are no longer on phone.how do i free it all back up without hard resetting as i dont wanna have to go throuh the whole restoring everything again.

Own a Desire, which I love.. I can mess about on it all day and never get bored. I am however frustrated by the fact we have the ability to put apps on SD but not many developers allow there apps to run from the SD card?? Google are poor at this also! Just wondering if any one knew why developers seem so unwilling?

I had 18mb internal memory free for apps and after installing an epub reader i kept getting the message running low on memory.I uninstalled it and did a reboot and now i have 70mb free and all the existing apps are running fine.Somehow i have managed to free up a huge amount of lost space which I assume was being taken up by apps not uninstalling correctly.Either way i'm happy until froyo comes out.Just wish I knew where the memory keeps disappearing to over time.

Running Froyo on my Desire. Have forced almost all my app's onto SD, apart from ones that run in background and update data. Still getting the annoying "low on memory" notification. Q. Is there a way to see exactly what applications are taking up the available memory space?

Since moving to Froyo I have noticed a problem.there are only a few apps at the moment that you are able to move to the SD card and I have noticed that when you I do move the app my internal memory does not increase back up. eg: say i have 110mb free internal memory and I install a 10mb app knocking internal down to 100mb if I "move app to SD card" it does transfer but my internal is still 100mb. Am i being completely stupid and missing something or have any of you guys had a similar prob?

Just got the new HTC Incredible. Awesome phone and this forum has already been a huge help, so I figured I'd join and ask my first question. The phone of course came with some apps already installed. I went to uninstall them, but it doesn't show up. Is there a way to do it with out getting all into moving files and all that stuff? I basically want to get rid of Friend Stream and the Desk Clock (since the other app, Clock, has the desk clock and is the same thing, just a different default setting when you open it).I'd like to maybe ditch the GMail app too, because the Mail app is set up to my gmail and does everything I want it to do.

I have had my Desire no for almost 2 months, and like most I have tried installing and uninstalling many apps, to see what I like.Due to doing a factory reset on my phone yesterday I have layered back all the apps I was using and have noticed that I have used considerably less memory than before, making me very suspicious of the uninstall method used within the market place.Does it leave behind pieces of the app, and if so what's the cleanest method of uninstalling apps.

I installed some apps hosted on mediafire (Gallery3D, Voice Search, etc). I was following links from a well known page recommending tips and improvements to an HTC Desire. How do you uninstall stuff like that? Normally you have to go via the market, but in this case I can't.Having read the thread on unsafe apps, I'm worried I've got these things from an untrusted source.

I have a desire, unlocked and debranded running 2.2, since installing it last Sunday I keep getting a low memory message. I have moved apps to sd, deleted seldom used apps that were on the internal memory and gone through and cleared the cache down on browser and apps.
What else can I do to free up internal memory, is the only way to remove unwanted HTC apps eg. Stocks, tweet etc to root and run a custom Rom?

So there are a bunch of apps that I have no desire to see on a regular basis. This is my first android phone (coming from a BB) and I could usually remove apps from the listing of core apps in the desktop software, but haven't learned how to do this with the Android OS. The specific apps I'm talking about are the ones that came on the phone like Twitter, Flickr, and Peep.

When I check my apps to update them, all of them say "installed" (aka up to date). For some programs, though, they notify me upon opening them that there is a new version available. How do I update my apps without uninstalling and reinstalling?

Perhaps there is a thread already about this but I discovered today that if you long press on an app and then drag it down to the trash can and then hold it on the trash can for a few seconds a text pops up telling you to let go to uninstall.I have uninstaller, but this is a really handy quick way to uninstall a single app. Hope it helps. This applies only to Launcher Pro, apparently it does not work with stock as stated by the below posters. Sorry about the confusion.

I'm new to Android and just got a Hero a couple weeks ago so I'm searching all the forums (and other Android sites) for useful tips. So far, I'm impressed with the Android OS, the Hero and even like HTC's Sense UI. There are some apps included with the phone that I don't want/need (ex: Sprint TV, Nascar, HTC Widgets, etc.) I'd like to uninstall them but based on what I've read in some posts some apps can't or shouldn't be uninstalled is that correct? If so, which apps? Do I need an uninstaller or does "managing applications" work just as well?I've seen many posts advising the best way to get clean-up your phone (get rid of the bundled bloat, etc.) is to "root" your phone but doesn't that process erase/over-write the HTC-customized version with the "plain vanilla" Android OS? If I root my Hero, won't I lose access to the Sense UI components that I wanted to keep?

I did a quick forum/google search and could not find much info, but I was wondering if constantly installing and uninstalling apps had any negative effect on the phone (such as leaving random registry things, data, etc. behind).Perhaps a Linux guy can shed more light on this?

Can I uninstall the stock fm radio on my phone using titanium back up pro without any problems? I also would like to know if I can do the same for Samsung apps, although probably not.
I just want to know if the phone will screw up. I already got rid of the MTV app and nothing bad happened from what I can tell.

I synced up with my computer after uninstalling unused apps and clearing the browser cache and a few others, just general clean up to keep the phone running smooth. After roaming around my sd card, I came across this. A total of 84 cache files totaling 3.24mb. What is this from and is it ok to delete them? I'm assuming it is since it is just cache, which you can delete any of theme xcept for google nav (force close issues).
