Sep 29, 2010What's the point over uninstalling apps if you don't benefit the space they occupied?

View 15 RepliesI backed up all system apps and info with Titanium Backup. Made sure that the apps I was uninstalling were backed up. Then uninstalled the default messaging app because I use chompsms. Turns out chomp as well as handcent use part of the default messaging app. No big deal, go back into TB and restore it. But its not there. It seems that TB just creates a link to the market place and the default app is not available there. Unless I'm mistaken, I need someone to upload the default messaging app and it's location, (TB didn't tell me where it was) so I can actually have messages show up in handcent or chomp. Next time I'll just change the name of default apps...
View 7 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this has been asked before (didn't see a thread on it, anyway), but I uninstalled Android's default browser (Browser.apk) after reading from this post that it was safe, as long as another browser was installed.Afterward, Dolphin and Opera seem to work fine (although I hate Opera, but that's another story). Skyfire, however, just comes up to a black screen, and doesn't do anything else until I decide to exit.Is Skyfire just an overlay of features onto the stock browser, or could something else have disabled it?Also, is there a place/way I can re-download/re-install the stock browser? I mean, I guess I could re-flash my ROM, but that seems a bit excessive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Ally was rooted. I saw that a new update was available, so I unrooted the phone for it. It restarts and then the screen gets an exclamation point with a little Android. I take the battery out to restart it, and it goes back to normal without the update.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got the new HTC Incredible. Awesome phone and this forum has already been a huge help, so I figured I'd join and ask my first question. The phone of course came with some apps already installed. I went to uninstall them, but it doesn't show up. Is there a way to do it with out getting all into moving files and all that stuff? I basically want to get rid of Friend Stream and the Desk Clock (since the other app, Clock, has the desk clock and is the same thing, just a different default setting when you open it).I'd like to maybe ditch the GMail app too, because the Mail app is set up to my gmail and does everything I want it to do.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had my Desire no for almost 2 months, and like most I have tried installing and uninstalling many apps, to see what I like.Due to doing a factory reset on my phone yesterday I have layered back all the apps I was using and have noticed that I have used considerably less memory than before, making me very suspicious of the uninstall method used within the market place.Does it leave behind pieces of the app, and if so what's the cleanest method of uninstalling apps.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed some apps hosted on mediafire (Gallery3D, Voice Search, etc). I was following links from a well known page recommending tips and improvements to an HTC Desire. How do you uninstall stuff like that? Normally you have to go via the market, but in this case I can't.Having read the thread on unsafe apps, I'm worried I've got these things from an untrusted source.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust installed an app that's 222kb and it took up 3megs. Uninstalled it and i got 1 back. What the hell is the deal with that? No wonder the internal memory with android 2.1 clogs up quickly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI go to Market click something to download tells me forever that its downloading. When I finally hit cancel tell me to install.Do it nothing shows up in my programs - nothing.Been trying this for days. Also hit by mistake things I don't want like "Swedish Dictionary".Tried to cancel but it is still in my useless Download list. How can I remove ithems from this list?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo there are a bunch of apps that I have no desire to see on a regular basis. This is my first android phone (coming from a BB) and I could usually remove apps from the listing of core apps in the desktop software, but haven't learned how to do this with the Android OS. The specific apps I'm talking about are the ones that came on the phone like Twitter, Flickr, and Peep.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I check my apps to update them, all of them say "installed" (aka up to date). For some programs, though, they notify me upon opening them that there is a new version available. How do I update my apps without uninstalling and reinstalling?
View 9 Replies View RelatedPerhaps there is a thread already about this but I discovered today that if you long press on an app and then drag it down to the trash can and then hold it on the trash can for a few seconds a text pops up telling you to let go to uninstall.I have uninstaller, but this is a really handy quick way to uninstall a single app. Hope it helps. This applies only to Launcher Pro, apparently it does not work with stock as stated by the below posters. Sorry about the confusion.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Android and just got a Hero a couple weeks ago so I'm searching all the forums (and other Android sites) for useful tips. So far, I'm impressed with the Android OS, the Hero and even like HTC's Sense UI. There are some apps included with the phone that I don't want/need (ex: Sprint TV, Nascar, HTC Widgets, etc.) I'd like to uninstall them but based on what I've read in some posts some apps can't or shouldn't be uninstalled is that correct? If so, which apps? Do I need an uninstaller or does "managing applications" work just as well?I've seen many posts advising the best way to get clean-up your phone (get rid of the bundled bloat, etc.) is to "root" your phone but doesn't that process erase/over-write the HTC-customized version with the "plain vanilla" Android OS? If I root my Hero, won't I lose access to the Sense UI components that I wanted to keep?

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust switched from a blackberry for the past 3 years to the eris. Loving the phone loving android its amazing compared to my storm1. Just a couple basic questions to ask real quick.
1. App memory. On my blackberry I got into the habit of constantly checking my app memory. I have about 12 apps installed and jump around 30-55 available memory. Should I be worried about my app memory and keep freeing it up?
2. How many apps do you all have installed I see tons of apps I want but I tend to uninstall them because of app memory.
Not exactly sure how to clear up more space except uninstalling apps? I don't really have that many apps.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust wondered, it seems that sometimes when you download an app to try and then you remove it, does this completely remove all the files from the internal memory?, im sure i have done this before and it seems i loose a small piece of memory after uninstalling Just wondered if there was a certain uninstaller that completley removes all files & folders?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi uninstalled an app from ther htc desire and noticed they dont get the full memory back. some apps i get it all back but i noticed with swype unistalling i didnt get full memory back and copilot possibly a few others so it must be leaving leftovers of the app in my memory taking up valuable space.is ther a way to find and delete left over files from installs on the htc?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI did a quick forum/google search and could not find much info, but I was wondering if constantly installing and uninstalling apps had any negative effect on the phone (such as leaving random registry things, data, etc. behind).Perhaps a Linux guy can shed more light on this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedCan I uninstall the stock fm radio on my phone using titanium back up pro without any problems? I also would like to know if I can do the same for Samsung apps, although probably not.
I just want to know if the phone will screw up. I already got rid of the MTV app and nothing bad happened from what I can tell.
I synced up with my computer after uninstalling unused apps and clearing the browser cache and a few others, just general clean up to keep the phone running smooth. After roaming around my sd card, I came across this. A total of 84 cache files totaling 3.24mb. What is this from and is it ok to delete them? I'm assuming it is since it is just cache, which you can delete any of theme xcept for google nav (force close issues).
View 2 Replies View RelatedSeems fairly straight forward Settings > Apps > Uninstall. But is there any reason, or a good idea to boot into recovery mode and wipe cache?

I'm trying to decide on whether to primarily use floats or ints for all 3D-related elements in my app (which is C++ for the most part). I understand that most ARM-based devices have no hardware floating point support, so I figure that any heavy lifting with floats would be noticeably slower. However, I'm planning to prep all data for the most part (i.e. have vertex buffers where applicable and transform using matrices that don't change a lot), so I'm just stuffing data down OpenGL's throat. Can I assume that this goes more or less straight to the GPU and will as such be reasonably fast? (Btw, the minimum requirement is OpenGL ES 2.0, so that presumably excludes older 1.x-based phones.)Also - how is the penalty when I mix and match ints and floats? Assuming that all my geometry is just pre-built float buffers, but I use ints for matrices since those do require expensive operations like matrix multiplications, how much wrath will I incur here. By the way, I know that I should keep my expectations low (sounds like even asking for floats on the CPU is asking for too much), but is there anything remotely like 128-bit VMX registers?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo some idiot thinks it'd be cool if I had apps like Corporate Calendar, Amazon MP3, blah blah blah. Is there a way I can delete apps that just came on my phone so my menu is not 10 pages long? I hate clutter.
On somewhat the same note, the Verizon rep says to download Advanced Task Killer. Even when I kill some of these things they are immediately re-starting up. Then I thought I read somewhere that I shouldn't have ATK on my Android phone. Anyone wanna share the real deal?
I have rooted the phone and did not have a problem with installing apps. I deleted myspace and talk. a few days later when i download an app its stuck at starting download it just hangs there. Of course I though I backed up before I deleted anything and didn't. So I though a hard reset would fixed but didn't and removed all the apps I had installed.
View 12 Replies View RelatedFor some reason after I flash a rom and apply a theme after so long I can't download apps from the market, and I can't find any reason why that is.. also I deleted all the cache I could from all my apps
View 11 Replies View RelatedEither it takes forever or I have to cancel it a couple of times before it downloads
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you are using apps2sd, will all apps install on the sdcard by default or can some go into internal storage space? Reason I ask is that I had previously removed ThinkFree Office from my stock ROM for space saving purposes. Now with apps2sd capabilities, I figured i'd reinstall it (from an .apk backup I had) since it would go on the sd card, so I thought. After installing it, it seems like it installed under internal storage space because I lost about 9mb of internal storage, which happens to be the same size as the app itself.
