HTC Desire :: Only Getting G Sybmol (never 3G, E Or H) In London
Jun 8, 2010Reading through the sticky tips & tricks, i now know what the symbols mean. got my desire on T-MOBILE just over a week ago and anywhere in London I'm only getting the G (GPRS) connection. both at home as well as in the office (soho square). my colleague who has the desire on O2 is getting H. now i believe H and 3G and E are all much faster than G, right? so i'm getting the lowest possible connection speed? what's the order of speed, is it
H > 3G > E > G or something like that?
HTC Desire :: Orange 3G Not Working In Central London
Jul 7, 2010I've been having problems accessing 3G on Orange using my HTC Desire whilst in Central London. It seems to work fine out and about near home in South West London, but whilst at work in Central London, I just can't seem to get any access to 3G. Anyone have any ideas? It's only been this bad for the last few weeks. I've invested in the pebble, so will be less likely to switch off my Desire, and therefore it shouldn't have a problem finding the network, but once my pebble arrives I will update again, but just wondered if anyone else has this problem with Orange 3G??

Sep 11, 2010I have a branded Orange phone and I am tempted to debrand it but I cannot find simple instructions involving using a Mac. No PCs in this house.
As the phone is unlocked does this make it easier and do I have to root and debrand or just do one of the procedures in order to get rid of the bloatware and get 2.2.

In terms of 3g coverage but mainly 2g coverage (calls and texts) also is there a particular network that brands the desire the least and is quickest when releasing updates for it. (By the way i am a complete noob this will be my 1st android phone so please don't suggest debranding or rooting as i wont do as i would just break it)

after serveral attempts to convert back with my original roms, it still read x10i
is there a way to convert back? If not, does this change anything in the future for my updates?
do i need to use the "i" roms from now on?

May 1, 2010i successfully debranded my rogers x10a to a generic x10a firmware. but for some reason i cant seem to update it to R1FA016. both ota and sony update software keeps telling me that my phone has the latest software. i was wondering if any1 faced similar issues and if there is a solution to this problem.

Nov 3, 2010I'm considering selling my 5/6month old Desire to fund the purchase of a sim free HD.
Hopefully I'd only end up spending around 150-200 for it.
Is the jump up worth it? I'm a sucker for upgrade and I have to say the HD looks nicer than the Desire, but obviously it's what inside that count. Apparently.
One big thing is the whole htcsense.com thing, and with confirmation of the Desire getting support for that still quite unclear and apparently unlikely, I'm leaning towards getting the HD...

Jul 19, 2010I've been having reception issues with Orange and they are sending me a new handset to see if that is the problem. If I drag all the data from the old SD card to my computer and then back over to the new SD card, will that keep all the setting form the HTC backup settings? Or do I have to point it in the right direction.

HTC Desire :: Using Telus HTC Desire On Rogers Network - No SIM Card In Phone - Error
Oct 8, 2010I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

Jul 18, 2010My friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.

Aug 1, 2010I have posed this question in some threads but as yet have made no progress.I am just curious as to why HTC appear to have left out the Bluetooth Voice Dialler function that can be provided by the Froyo 2.2 O/S. I believe this feature is present and enabled in some of the cooked roms and also in the Nexus one Vanilla 2.2 so why not here?If I have missed somthing simple or if anyone is aware why it is missing or how I can activate it that would be fantastic!

Sep 17, 2010I have a problem with an HTC Desire. I have an emailaddress that does not require authentication for the outgoing mail. I've unchecked the "authentication required" tickbox and saved the settings.
Somehow the phone automatically resets the Authentication setting and there I can't send email.
My question: how can I prevent the Desire from automatically place a checkmark next to "Authentication Required"?

Jun 2, 2010I'm new to the Android OS having been a Symbian (2nd phone is a Nokia N97) and Windows Mobile user previously. My question regards a copy of Family Guy (Something, Something, Something, Dark Side) which I purchased yesterday. The standard DVD also comes with a digital copy on the DVD which, when inserted into the drive brings up a choice of transferring the file to my computer to be copied over to my Desire as either a iTunes file or a Windows Media Video (WMV).Ideally I want to avoid the iTunes route as currently I have no use for that program on my system so I would like to be able to use the WMV version. When I copied the file to my Desire, it didn't play and the phone didn't seem to recognise it. Can anyone please give me advice on how to play a WMV on my Desire?

Jul 23, 2010I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?

I know it's possible to end a phone call on the Desire by pressing the power button after enabling it in settings. But when I go to Settings/Accessibility I get a pop-up message saying, 'No accessibility related application found. You can download a screen reader for your device from Android Market. Click OK to install the screen reader.'If I press 'Cancel' I'm in the accessibility settings with a single grayed-out 'Accessibility' option. But no other options are available.
