HTC Desire :: Power Button To End Call Is Missing From My Desire
Nov 10, 2010
I've been scouring the web a solution to this but can't seem to find it anywhere. I know it's possible to end a phone call on the Desire by pressing the power button after enabling it in settings. But when I go to Settings/Accessibility I get a pop-up message saying, 'No accessibility related application found. You can download a screen reader for your device from Android Market. Click OK to install the screen reader.'If I press 'Cancel' I'm in the accessibility settings with a single grayed-out 'Accessibility' option. But no other options are available.

I've read around that with Froyo you can go into Settings> Accessibility and turn on a feature called Power button ends call. Fairly obvious what it does, but i can't find it. Is it not available on the desire. If so, is there an app for that, or some other way to do it?

I could not charge the handset and it automatically powered down last night. Thereafter I restarted it again without charging it and as expected it powered down after a few minutes. This morning I plugged in the handset for charging and then pressed the power button to put the handset in to 'sleep', to my surprise it did not work. I ignored it and left it for charging and when I checked back the handset had automatically gone to 'sleep'. I tried to wake it up by pressing the power button, but it did not work. The only way I can wake up the handset is either by calling it or plugging in the charger. I tried all of the following but none of them worked.
1. Removed the battery and left the handset for a few minutes and restarted it.
2. Removed the SD card and restarted it.
3. Removed the SIM card and restarted it.
4. Removed both the SD and SIM cards and restarted it.

Anybody have any probs with the power button? Got caught in a torrential downpour this afternoon to find my wallet and phone somewhat damp after being in my soaking jeans.Power button no longer works so effectively once the screen saver kicks in I cant unlock it. Thankfully its still within warranty so will take it back to get a replacement. This is the 2nd phone I've had that has suffered this prob. My previous phone, a dreadful Sony Ericsson died a death.Avoiding the rain is somewhat unavoidable when you live in Scotland. MakingTaking a phonecall in the rain is sometimes a necessary evil. I really have to question the build quality of some of the modern phones. Do they even test the use of phones in the rain? It seems somewhat of a basic function, and to have such a major malfunction with such minimal exposure to rain is quite disappointing to say the least, especially when it never came into direct contact.

With increasing frequency, pressing the power button on my HTC desire running Froyo only dims the screen, it doesnt put it into standby. This never happened until recently but is now quite a regular thing. In order to put it into stand by i have to press the button several times before it decides to do what I'm telling it to.

One big problem I've noticed is that when you need to have your phone switched off (e.g. on an aircraft, etc.) it's all too easy for the phone to switch itself on whilst in your pocket - the "power on" button just needs the slightest tap and then it springs into life.I know whilst on a plane I could pre-set it to in-flight mode before powering it off, but that's not the point. Like when powering the phone off, there is a delay and a set of menu options. I'd like something similar for powering the phone on - programmable delay and/or combination of pressing say home and the "power on" button.Does anyone know of an app or some code I could run to alter the way the phone behaves ?. Not sure if the only way to add this functionality is part of a flash update as it needs to survive a power off, etc.

Has anyone worked out if it is possible to set one of the buttons on the bottom of the Desire to bring up the lock screen rather than using the power button at the top. Only just got the phone 3 days ago but this is (sor far) the only niggle I have.

same as with HTC desire, go to settings, accessibility, check power button ends call and you can now instantly end call by pressing the power button instead of waiting for the screen to light up then pressing end call

So I just got off the phone, and again I hit the sleep button to end the call, which doesn't actually end the call. So I was thinking, is there an app that will allow this? Or can someone make one? I would if I was able to, but I'm not so I'm asking. I guess I can't break the hardware button habit and move the the full touch future.

I'm thinking of getting the HTC desire when it releases in the US and I know it has already in Europe. I'm one of those people that would use the phone for internet, texting, probably not emailing.I'm interesting in what you guys' batter life is.Like if you had 3g off and all those battery saving tips.Like manual switching 3g on when needed etc.Since I want an accurate time to go by because I'm going to do the exact thing when I get mine.Using battery saving tips for max.As well if any hardcore power saving iphone users can post their times as well since I can't find anything on the web relating to that.

I just got this phone a few days ago, I came from a Treo 755p. I was playing with the phone a couple days ago and came across a setting that let me decide what the power/end call button would do when pushed, IE: go to sleep, go home then go to sleep, nothing. I left it at the default and now I want to change it.

Just wondering why the X10 mini pro doesn't have the end call button at the top like the X10 Maxi (power button)? The lack of having this feature is absurd. The easiest and most logical way to end a call is to press the top lock screen/power button. I recommended this phone to someone and they got a massive shock when they realised they had an active call going for over 8 hours! Could you please add this feature in your next update, if not could you at least have a visual clue to let the user know that they have an active call when the screen is off, eg notification light blinking purple or something.

Years ago, probably way before your time, there was a state of the art computer called a G5. It was so powerful there would never again be the need to upgrade. The OS and software were cutting edge and all who saw were gob smacked. So, the G5 having been discontinued 4 years and 10 days ago, and Tiger under 3 years ago, things are different.I can't connect my phone to my computer through usb or Bluetooth. Is it faulty hardware on my end or are they known to be incompatible?

I saw an Android tip that said "Use the power button to end a call", but it needed to be turned on in the Accessibility menu. When I got to Settings->Accessibility, it is grayed out and it says "Downloaded accessibility application is required to activate". What app do I need to download to enable this accessibility setting?

I just replaced my Motorola Droid. Before when in the middle of a call or to hang up a call i just pull the phone away from my head and the screen would come on... or, i would have to use the power up button on the top of the device then swipe to unlock. Now in the middle of a call the power button is not working nor does the screen illuminate when i pull away from my head.

i rarely have the need to turn the phone completely off but i did attempt it last night it came up with the "power off shutting down box" with the spinning "thinking wheel" and the screen went black but when i came to turn it back on 3 hours later it still had exactly the same thing on the screen "power off shutting down"
the only way to completely cycle the power then was to remove the battery.

Forgot to take my charger away with me on a trip. So thought I would just turn the power on once a day to check for messages and mail then turn the power off again. This way I would get 8-9 days out of it as I have done with many other cell phones. I got 2 days from a fully charged battery powering the phone on and off three times for about 10 mins at a time.

Android Version: Don't know, sorry. If anyone knows which version T-Mobile are currenty shipping with, can you help?Network: T-Mobile, UK Taskiller Used: No idea. what's a Taskiller?I've just got a T-Mobile branded HTC desire. It had been working ok for the few hours I was playing with it and after I'd copied all my contacts from my old phone to the SIM, in preparation to moving them to the Desire, I switched off the desire, switched the SIM and powered up.I'm not sure what button a pressed, but somehow I switched if off, then as I was switching it back on I think I was accidentally holding the volume button on the left of the phone and it seemed to start into some sort of Andriod screen.I wasn't sure what to do and how to get out of that screen back to the T-Mobile OS so I think I ended up trying to perform an Andriod reboot (since I figured a reboot shouldn't do too much harm.)

I just found out, that the "Privacy" -tab (home-menu-settings-privacy?) is missing ?
I gave the "factory defaults" reset in two ways, but it didn't help.
(home-menu-settings-sd&phone storage-factory data reset and pressing vol-power etc)
How could I get the backup data from the SD, while the bloody tab has gone somewhere...
It seems, that backup-directory still remains with several *.arc -files.
The phone is HTC Desire; with sw-version 2.10.205.2

I'm new to Andriod and in a place with poor WiFi and poor cell coverage but was able to download my first program yesterday "Olive Tree" and it works.
I don't understand all the icons on the power strip I put on my home page:
From left to right:
WiFi, Bluetooth, X.Y, Screen Brightness
Can some one explain X and Y?
Screen is set to medium.
I turn WiFi and Bluetooth on and off as needed. Is that good power mangegment?
At a conference so don't get to play much most of the day.
Also using the built in weather widget, not much connectivity sometimes it works, sometimes not.
