View 5 RepliesI own a HTC hero (Orange). With talks of android updates becoming available, there seems to be a mad rush to back up everything so that nothing is lost on the update. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the most common problems, is that people have their contacts saved as 'Phone' contacts and not 'Google' contacts. This means that they will not sync with Google mail. There was no contact export available to me (I think because my firmware was still 1.5).
This seems to be a solution that will solve the problem without having to write out every single contact number in Google mail.
1. Enter android market.
2. Search 'Contact sync'
3. Download/Install this application.
4. Run the application
5. All contacts will be turned from 'Phone' contacts to 'Google' Contacts
6. These contacts will then be synchronized with your Google mail
This means that if your contacts are lost on your phone at any point (eg. an update), they can easily be 'Exported' back to your phone through Google mail.
Is there a way to do it? I cant seem to find an option. Want to copy them so I can have my contacts pictures show in their proper resolution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new Android/Google and set my Desire's contacts up onto the phone. I have just realised the benefits of putting everything onto your Google account, and how it auto stores and updates your addresses, numbers, and emails etc. is there any way to change your phone contacts to Google contacts? without having to type them all out again. I can not seen to find how to do this.

To Google or to their phone? At the moment mine are on my phone, but I have been told there are several benefits to saving them to Google. Is there a way of transferring them from my phone to Google? Or do I have to re-enter them on either the phone or a PC?Also, if I add a person's birthday in my phonebook, will it automatically appear on the calendar?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have read the search results, but just a simple question. When you sync items, phone/pda/pc etc, you get the oppertunity to choose which item takes priority if say mobile phone number has been changed in two devices. How does this work between google and my phone.I don't want to spend ages today getting my contacts just right on google via my pc to find they all go wonky when it syncs later on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how i can copy or move all of my google contacts to the phone, i would prefer all my contacts to be stored on the phone rather than googles servers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI wanted to sync my phone contacts with my Gmail account and found this thread.
Quote:
I added a contact on my PC (http://www.google.com/contacts) which then got sync'd to my phone. I pasted the phone number in from a website, which began something like this: "+44 (0)207..." When I dialed the number on the phone, a recorded message told me that voicemail settings had been changed, and to hang up and dial again in five minutes. Immediately, an SMS message arrived from ">pers", saying "Network message - please delete", followed by a load of random gibberish. Looking in the Call History, it appears that the phone ignores the brackets, and dials, "+44 0207..." which is incorrect. It ought to know that numbers in brackets after the country code are only used when dialling locally without the country code. Calling that incorrect number (I don't know if it's the specific number I called, or just that prefix) somehow connected to some aspect of the (T-mobile UK) voicemail system. I wonder what setting I've changed?Googling suggests that the SMS from ">pers" is some sort of phone-configuration message that is normally supposed to be intercepted by the phone. Anyway, bottom line is this - if you add contacts to your Google account on your PC (which is sometimes very convenient, and a great feature of the Google system), be careful to remove any unnecessary area prefixes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have searched around on this and other forums, looking for the answer to a question that has been bugging me since before the weekend.I got the HTC desire on friday (love the phone!) and have got to the point where most of the things are set up how I want. I have used HTC sync to import my contacts from Outlook where they were already set up how I wanted. However I can't seem to be able to import these contacts back up to my Google account though. I have turned on all the sync settings and checked these, but nothing seems to work.I tried creating a dummy contact in my google account and prompted a sync from my phone which pulled this down ok. So this would indicate that the sync seems to work one way, but wont pull my contacts back up the other.I don't really want to re-enter all my contacts into my Google account to get the sync working properly plus I am assuming this will create a duplicate of every contact already on my phone.
View 29 Replies View RelatedI've recently (today, earlier & just now) added a few Google contacts to my phone. They don't appear in my contacts on my GoogleMail web page. I've manually synced them on the phone and refreshed the web page to no avail.I created one much earlier on (maybe even yesterday) and it's there. If I create a new contact on the web it appears almost immediately on the phone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I use the task killer...and at the moment say when I kill tasks it'll tell me there is about 200M avaliable memory free...if I use the phone for a day it'll maybe go down to 150M even if I am still killing apps and there is nothing in 'running services'. If i turn off the phone and turn it back on it goes up to 250M. What is running that I can't stop myself to make it go down from the 250M but that I can just eliminate by turning off the phone?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI made a complete arse out of syncing my contacts and would appreciate a bit of help I use my google contacts for all my phone numbers (about 500 numbers) but i have managed to sync with my pc (old out-of-date outlook address book), which (without my meaning to) has populated the "phone" contacts on the desire as well with another 450 contacts - mostly duplicates and old numbers now i can set the view to only show google contacts but i'd prefer not having the 450 dupes there at all so finally my question - is there an easy way to delete all "phone" contacts but leaving my "google contacts" in the phone? ie not doing it individually one by one deleting. most important i want to make sure that whatever i do doesn't delete all my google contacts online mimicing any action i take on the phone
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhen I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI did my update manually earlier today without any problems (all of my contacts were Google).I have a question for my sister's though:How do you convert all of your Phone contacts to Google contacts? I don't want to do the .csv backup and all that just sync all Phone and Google contacts to Google. The reason is because when Verizon transfers your numbers, they get saved as Phone contacts but from what I understand, the update only re-syncs your Google contacts. So is there a quick/easy way to do this? She is not very tech-savvy.I just want to make sure she does this before she upgrades,so she doesn't lose all of her phone numbers.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI don't want my contacts to be synced with Google. IIRC, this was possible in 2.x. Having upgraded to 4.0.4, I'm not able to disable Google contacts.
I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are 1000 people trying to get their phone contacts to become google contacts, but i want my google contacts to become phone contacts so i can get them to sync to my windows contacts.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow do i do this? it only seems to import Sim contacts.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving exported address book file to pc, and imported to Google contacts, my Desire now reads contacts from my Google account. I then deleted all contacts stored on the phone to remove duplicates. However, I now don't appear to be able to edit contacts. Changing primary contacts reverts after a few minutes, and I am unable to add new contacts to Google from my phone. It's almost as if my Desire is set to read only, or something.Any ideas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHTC Desire. Google Contacts on PC (and laptop) and phone. These used to sync okay between each media. Whatever I changed on the pc/Laptop, would be reflected on the phone, and whatever I changed on the phone, would be reflected on the pc/Laptop. For the last week or so this has not been happening. Whether I change, add, or delete, on the pc/laptop or mobile phone, these changes are not reflected on the other media. The Calendar still syncs okay between the phone and pc/laptop. Now, is this a phone issue? A Google issue? A sync issue?
View 3 Replies View Relatedall my numbers were saved into the sim fine no problem. all present and correct. when i went to manually enter a contact last night it gave me the option to store to googlemail, phone or sim.... well not knowing that my contacts were now stored under googlemail. i thought i would pick phone, one little message later (something about changing settings) but not saying it would wipe my contacts ...everyone apart from this new number i maunually entered were gone! so checked that i had checked the box to back up everything ( i had), tried to import from sim.... but nothing !!!! no contacts !!!!
