HTC Desire :: Restoring With ROM Manager
Oct 1, 2010
I backed up a ROM using rom manager so i could try a new one, but if i want to restore the old one do i just do so right on top of the current one. i.e. no wiping required? Or should i wipe, get ROM manager and then restore?

I rooted my phone using Universal Androot (worked perfectly) and then proceeded to install ROM Manager to flash a custom ROM to my Ally. I used the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery first (sucessfully) then used Backup Current ROM to backup the stock (V8) ROM (sucessfully). I then proceeded to install the Velocity 0.1.1 ROM (sucessfully).
I've searched here a bit, and am unclear as to the process to restore my stock ROM using ROM Manager. I believe it would work as follows?:
Use Manage and Restore Backups. Select backup I made, and then restore.
If I wanted to un-root, I could then just use Universal Androot to un-root the phone (although I havent tried that part yet).
Love the ROM, just curious how to go back if I need to.

I upgraded to 2.2 last night, but got stuck in the reboot loop. To fix it I reflashed to a 2.1 ROM and then re-applied the FOTA upgrade to 2.2, which seemed to work fine. The only problem now is that I have lost all my SMS and MMS. They would've been backed up when the original (failed) 2.2 upgrade took place. Is there any way to restore this backup? I've tried a factory reset but no luck.

Once I connect phone to the PC do I just copy everything that I see on the drive and paste back onto the new card? Is it really that straightforward? Am just worried it might be like just copying the 'Program Files' folder from one PC onto another and half of the DLL's would obviously not be there as they are in the Windows directory.

Can anyone recommend a good password manager app for the HTC Desire? I'm looking for an app that will allow entry of custom fields, back-up/synch to somewhere securely, and can export the records to a non-encrypted format (in case i ever change phones).I've had a good look around the Market be can't see anything suitable.

Since rooting my Desire using Unrevoked 3.21 yesterday I've downloaded the rom manager from the market.
Having successfully flashed the leedroid 2.1a rom to my phone I then found I needed to partition the sd card for A2SD+
When trying to use rom manager to partition my sd card in preperation for A2SD+, I get a white triangle with an explanation mark in it and the android icon beneath.
With the text,
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted
Then when trying to reboot, the phone was stuck in a boot loop and with a wiped sd card
Managed to get my nandroid backup back on the sdcard and reflash to stock, then when trying to partition again get the same error....thankfully reboot on stock rom works
Any ideas on why my rom manger isn't working?
(I also had a similar error when trying to use the "backup current rom" option)

Can anyone recommend a good task manager to get from the market.
Been using the super security app which has slowed my phone down and the task manager on it isnt the best
Few people saying a 'task killer' is bad for androids. Again anyone got an opinion on this?

Do you know if ATK uses much cpu/memory and battery when running in background, when using the autokill-feature when going to standby because it than needs to refresh the running app-list always.

I hope that this is an easy one for the root masters on here.Firstly i have successfully rooted my Desire by using the unrevoked3 app so now went though without a hitch and root was successful as i have installed ROM Manger from the Market.ive clicked on the ClockworkMod Recover and that has installed fine.Ive done the Backup Current Rom and its created a folder on my SD card with the back up.Now i want to simply add A2SD or even A2SD+ as they both appear to do the same to me?Ive manually backed up my SD card as i know it needs to partition it but is it simply a case of going through that option or do i need to flash a custom ROM to it?LeeDROID looks like a good option as i like the standard set up pretty much just with launcher pro rather than Sense which i could add after?Lastly, if it all goes wrong how do i restore the backup ive created?

I was on the modaco rom but decided to try a different rom from xda. I used ROM manager but the screen was stuck on the HTC screen so i decided to cancel it. I did the follwing but its still stuck on the HTC screen. Turn off, hold vol down and press power. Boot into HBOOT. Use vol up and down to move through the menu and power to select. From here, Select recovery. At the screen with the desire and red triangle, press vol up and power. Select Wipe data/factory reset.

Which will allow me to revert to an 'as is' state if I decide to try a custom rom (both...if so - which is better?)
My only gripe now is battery life on the Desire....I'm thinking of trying one of the roms that extend battery life....

Just plucked up the courage to root my Desire. And now want to have a go at installing Froyo and looking for the easiest way. I've looked at ROM Manager and was wondering if its worth getting the paid version as it says you can get all the popular ROMs downloaded to your phone. Was wondering how good this app is and if anyone has had problems with getting the ROMs.

so using this I got it working with Defrost 2.6a and 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20.zip. I then poked around in the Defrost app and saw the battery mod so I applied it. After a while, though, I decided I didn't like it and wanted to go back to this one. Here's the stupid part - I then went into ROM Manager and applied it. Now, the phone is stuck in a boot loop with the Nexus One animation. I am sure there's an easy fix, but I seriously don't know what I'm doing. I'm just flying by the seat of my pants here. I did a back up using both ROM Manager and Titanium Backup. I can get to recovery mode, but can't find any backups.

This is my first post but have been reading the forum since I got my desire 3 weeks ago.... love it so far, but I have just come across a problem, When I go into settings followed by "manage applications" I get an error that a process has failed, and then I can only quit using the force close button. I have tried restarting the phone and no new apps have been put on recently. Does anyone know what I can do to be able use the app manager again?

I successfully partitioned EXT3/FAT32, rooted, and flashed Defrost.
Now a strange thing is occurring. I installed an off market app, but I can only see its folder in Android's File Manager, not in Windows XP.
This is going to cause me serious problems because I need to transfer some files into that folder from my PC.
How can I access this App's folder in Win XP?

Just got an HTC Desire through O2 in the UK as an upgrade to my old SE P1i. Happy with it so far, still going through it trying to turn off and disable loads of stuff though. Here's some initial questions:
1) I got the Force Close Button program from the marketplace. Should I be using that to close programs to save battery life?
Or should I just leave everything running in the background? Camera, web browser, email, calendar and whatever else I've ever used since I last cycled the power.
2) Is there a particular Task Manager program I should look at? I've got ES File Manager and notice they do a Task Manager as well but didn't know if there's any others that people recommend.
3) Is there a way to disable the SMS threaded/conversation view in the stock SMS program?
4) And to supress the deletion prompt in SMS?...........

Just flashed with Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. Went very smoothly. I used Titanium back up (free) and Astro file manager to back everything up.Take note this is my second time flashing a rom. First time went fine. I have restored all data and apps. Everything is restored perfectly except my text messages which i need the most. Don't worry i did a nandroid back up before even flashing. I thinking i did all the restoring correct. Whats the deal lol? I would hate to restore back to the android back up and redo the whole flashing process again. Any alternatives?

After updating to 2.2 I put all of the apps I could from my phone to my SD card.I did this so I could back them up because my phone was having LED light issues so I got it replaced. So I took it to Verizon and they did a reset and it didn't help so they ordered a new phone for me.After this reset the apps from my SD card automatically "restored" (the phone used this word after it finished) my apps. Now, I have received the new phone and it is not automatically restoring this time. How can I get them to restore? When I go to applications in the settings menu it doesn't show any on the SD card. Also when I go to the market it only shows my purchased apps in the downloads section. Also my phone is NOT rooted.Any help is appreciated

I have been playing with more roms the last few days and as such, i have been restoring my apps and setup quite frequently.I know that the "standard" advice has been to use titanium backup and backup and restore apps. When i started this latest round of "ROM exploration" i decided to try a different method. I have always been a fan of AppBrain and so i decided to try their Fast Web Installer to install apps based on what was in my previous app list.I like this method because it forces me to actually audit what apps I have on my phone and delete the ones that I no longer use or need.I know my settings aren't maintained but I don't find it too difficult to bring my phone back to standard working order.Just thought i might share my experiences with everyone especially the ones new to root. This forum has been extremely helpful to me in my rooting process so I want to give something back to it

I've flashed SenseHero 2.1 & 2.2 over the last week or so, and as soon as SenseEspresso is ready I'm going to flash that one too. My question is, is there a quick way to get your phone back to the way you like it? I currently use mybackup pro & Titanium backup, and it takes me a fair chunk of time to reinstall all my apps and set up my homescreens.Any suggestions? What do y'all do?
