HTC Desire :: Close Programs To Save Battery Life - Task Manager?

Jun 11, 2010

Just got an HTC Desire through O2 in the UK as an upgrade to my old SE P1i. Happy with it so far, still going through it trying to turn off and disable loads of stuff though. Here's some initial questions:

1) I got the Force Close Button program from the marketplace. Should I be using that to close programs to save battery life?
Or should I just leave everything running in the background? Camera, web browser, email, calendar and whatever else I've ever used since I last cycled the power.
2) Is there a particular Task Manager program I should look at? I've got ES File Manager and notice they do a Task Manager as well but didn't know if there's any others that people recommend.
3) Is there a way to disable the SMS threaded/conversation view in the stock SMS program?
4) And to supress the deletion prompt in SMS?...........

General :: How To Close All Apps / Is There A Task Manager

Mar 16, 2012

I've been with my Droid 4 for about a week, but it has slowed down for some reason.I'm suspecting that it's due to all those open apps, which I don't know how to close. How do you close all apps? Is there task manager? I come from the Windows Mobile world, and, as archaic as the OS was, it was very easy to bring up the task manager, just like in the Desktop Windows OS, and close any or all apps to reclaim memory and speed.

I'm looking for something that will close apps (and the commands that make them relaunch) in an automatic way (i.e every time the said app is beign activated).

I need something non root ( the apps being closed are not an internal part of the rom), preferably free, and that is trustworthy (security wise).

Samsung Vibrant :: Advanced Task Killer - Does Save Battery?

Sep 4, 2010

I officially want to know from real life experience, have any of you noticed an improvement in battery life by utilizing the program Advanced Task Killer (ATK). Yes or No.

I've heard arguments for and against using ATK which people have claimed could save battery life by killing off background aps and processes that hinder battery life by using the CPU in the background.

Some people say it works, others say "dude you are an idiot, you must not know anything about Android or linux, Aps don't run in the background with Android, its the beauty of Android" or something to that effect.

Maybe I'm an Idiot, but here is my experience. I have used my phone for periods of time, with and without ATK. I can deffinately say from my own real life experience, that running ATK improves my battery life. Maybe its a mental placebo effect I dont know. For those who say it doesn't work, I just have one common sense question, so here it goes. If Android is so smart, and it doesn't run background aps on it's own, which would use up energy, then why the heck does AmazonMP3 load up by it's self every 2 mins in the background. I never even use the stupid program, so common sense says if Android doesn't run background Aps like AmazonMP3, then how does it mysteriously show up on the list as being used in the background? Also I've read on xda people who root their phone, and manually remove programs like this, and they saw an improvement in battery life, isn't that more proof that indeed these programs use some energy in the background, thus ATK does help?

Motorola Droid :: How To Save 30% Of Battery Life?

Dec 11, 2009

Disable the auto-screen-dimmer, immediately. Remember, even though this shows no process it still has to compute how much/little light it sees and then apply it to the screen. Kicked the brightness down to the lowest and my battery usage went from 60% screen to about 25%, how it should be.

HTC EVO 4G :: Random Rebooting After Setting To Save Battery Life

Jun 7, 2010

The issue started happening last night after I had tweaked a couple settings to save battery life. I was on a job site today and the phone rebooted 4 or more times within a 2 hour time period. It absolutely killed my battery too. I took my phone off the charger at 9am and by 12:30pm it was @ 15% or so. Luckily I had a spare battery in my pocket. I have since turned back on the "enable always on mobile data" and haven't had any issues since. Battery usage seems a little bit excessive still though. I have had a few smart phones so I know what to expect as far as battery usage.

I wouldn't care about speed during the day..say if I underclock it to like 400 MHZ, would that save a lot of battery life? I would set it to normal once I was done with work.

Samsung Behold 2 :: How To Save Battery Life With Android 1.6?

May 15, 2010

As I just got my phone with installed rom 1.6 for the Behold 2, I am frustrating when the battery life drains so fast after last night. I was playing a bit with the WiFi and the battery status bar was still less then half bar. After I woke up today, the battery has shown that the battery is less than 5%. I did turn off my WiFi and using only 2g network to save battery life. I clicked on "why", it showed the Green Bar with the word Android System 95%. What does this mean and how can I save more battery life since I don't use it the whole night. So the phone suppose to be less than half bar battery life at least.

1.Putting the phone in sleep can save battery life or not on the Behold II?
2.What are some ways that can save the battery life on the Behold II?
3.Does the charging technique can at least save some part the of the battery life? If so , How do I charge my Behold II ? Leaving it all drain out, turning off the phone and then charge it ?

Here are some ways that I have read in android forums
1. use spare app
2. use task manager
I didn't try these two.

Motorola CLIQ :: Changing Auto Refresh Settings To Save Battery Life?

Mar 21, 2010

I've read that BLUR refreshes all the info it needs for it's social widgets every 15 minutes even if you don't have any widgets placed on your home screen. I'm thinking about buying a Cliq but the fact that BLUR is a battery killer turns me off since the main reason I want to upgrade from my G1 is to have a phone with a keyboard that has better battery life. Is there any way to turn this "Auto refresh" feature off or at least make it longer than every 15 minutes? Even better are there any BLURless roms out there? has any1 tried deleting the BLUR widgets apk? would that make it so it doesnt have to "refresh"? having more memory available from being BLURless is just icing on the cake what really matters to me is battery life.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Task Panel X - Advanced Task Manager - Causing Errors

Nov 7, 2009

I've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.

Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.

So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.

Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.

What are your experiences with battery life after upgrading to 2.2? And please, don't make silly "I surfed the web for 12 hours and still have 25% left" claims Also, I'm not interested in other ROMs, as I want a clean sense experience with no modifications (as close as possible to the way HTC made it)So - 2.2 and battery life: same, worse or better than on 2.1 that came with your Desire?

HTC Desire HD :: No More Lag - Better Battery Life

Nov 10, 2010

What started as a discussion over at XDA-Developers to try and resolve serious lag problems that some users experienced with their DHD is now proving to be a resolution to most of the problems reported with this device. Apparently turning 'usb debugging mode' ON is the resolution. The thread was first started by a user who noticed that whenever he was experiencing lag issues an Android process called /INIT was taking anywhere from 70% to 100% of his CPU usage. /INIT is a core process to the Android bootup sequence which should go 'dormant' after the bootup itself. What many users noticed after this was found is that whenever the lag problems started /INIT would take some 90% of the phone's CPU usage and not go back to its 'dormant' state. Even when the phone was idle and not being used. After applying the fix many people are reporting the phone running as smooth as they have even seen it running. Also users are reporting that recording video is no longer jerky and they can browse through the gallery smoothly and with no delays. The more relevant yet, and what may prove to be the best contribution from all this, is that some users are now reporting really amazing battery life performance. Its important to say that the so-called 'bug' doesnt seem to be HTC related but rather an Android 2.2 issue, as the performance issues are also being reported on other handsets running the latest Google OS - with some sources reporting that Google is soon to release an update to Froyo 2.2, possibly to resolve this bug. In order to turn 'usb debugging mode' ON go to: menu >> settings >> applications >> development.

HTC Desire :: Battery Life Is Quite Good?

May 31, 2010

So after all the horror stories about battery life I was kinda worried about my new Desire especially as I am a full brightness, 3G loving kinda man. But having got the phone on saturday, I have found it quite good. I mean, I played with it almost constantly for about 8 hours, and I still had 30% charge left.

Normal usage would be maybe an 2 hours or so per day, so i don't think there is any danger I'm gonna run outta juice at work. Also, when sleeping, I don't seem to lose any battery power at all, despite the experiences of others. Anyone else think the battery problems are overblown?
