I just had my phone stolen, but I copied the whole SD onto my PC beforehand. When I get a new phone, and copy and replace all this data to the new phone, how much is it like the original phone then? Are the settings, placement of everything, etc. all the same or how does that work?

All the apps I have downloaded to my Pulse are backed up onto my SD card. Can I just pop my card into my new Desire and use Astro (or some such thing) to copy them all or do I need to start again from scratch?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've ordered a 16GB SD card to replace the 4GB SD card that T-Mobile supplied. Obviously, there are files already on the SD card, so what I intend to do is:
1) Connect the Desire to my PC and copy all the files to a temporary folder.
2) Disconnect the Desire.
3) Unmount the SD Card and turn the Desire off.
4) Remove the existing SD card.
5) Insert the new SD card.
6) Turn the Desire back on (not sure whether I need to mount the SD card again).
7) Connect the Desire to my PC.
8) Copy all the files from the temporary folder to the new SD card.
This makes sense, but I'm just concerned that it might mess up any applications before I've copied the files onto the new SD card. I don't have a card reader, so can't copy the files before inserting it.I've just read Upgrade sdcard howto - Android Forums and it seems to agree with my procedure.Does anybody have any other ideas? I don't want to break my lovely Desire.

At the end of November I can renew my contract early and I'll get a new Android based phone. Are there any phones worthy of replacing the Motorola Droid? View 13 Replies View RelatedMy friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI miss typing in someones name on my BB keyboard and then pressing their name to call them. Love the Hero though. I know the hero can do this, but there are two things I dislike: 1. It uses a keypad not a keyboard. 2. The keypad takes up so much space that you can only see 2.5 names at a time, not 7 or 8+ like a BB. (I know about pressing the button to remove the keypad to see more names) Is there any way of changing #1 or #2 on my Hero? Also, What is the fastest way to copy someone's number and paste it in a text message to someone else? A task I seem to do more often than I would like. The send contact as a vcard is cool, but not all phones can read vcards.

I've chosen "mount as disc drive".I tried doing one bands albums and that was fine as a trial run, just dumped them in Removable Disc F and they are there and work.Tried again later and now wont work and I get this message.An unexpected error is preventing the operation.Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem

However, I'm concerned that the phone will use mobile data as well, either without my knowledge or accidentally. Is there a way I can ensure without any doubt that my Desire won't use mobile data? View 4 Replies View RelatedWe had a shock at work yesterday when our Orange bill arrived charging me �826.00 for the 1032mb of data I used over my 500mb allowance in the first month of owning a Desire. At the moment we're negotiating with Orange about that, and they're even sending me something approaching an itemised data bill to look at, but in the future I want to get onto a truly unlimited data account to prevent this happening again. Early indications from Orange are that they only do 500mb bolt ons and no more (and it's very hard to actually confirm this on their not too informative website), meaning this issue could easily rear it's ugly head again. If this is the case then I have to consider going elsewhere. Even though we're only in the first month of the contract I'm prepared to completely downgrade my Orange account and keep it running for my wife or something, and to take out a new account with O2 on an unlimited data package (plus I'll have 2 Desires to play with). The only trouble is that in the past (but not in the last 2 or 3 years) I've heard some horror stories about O2's coverage in the West Midlands (I live near to Wolverhampton) and wondered if anybody has local knowledge and can advise whether this has changed in recently.

I've managed to fix it i think. It would seem something I installed (im thinking SwitchPro Widget) changed the APN name in the settings to orangeinternet_off.
Does anyone know if there is an Icon of the Incredible? I would like to replace the old telephone receiver icon on the dock with an Icon of the Incredible. If not could someone make me one from a picture or explain how to reduce the pic to a sice for the Icon? Currently I downloaded the Windows 7 icon pack from the market and i'm using the default cell phone icon which looks like an old canybar Nokia.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just rooted my phone a bit ago and tried a few different roms on Rom Manager. I got to the Ultimate Droid 10 New Era or something one and now I'm stuck in a bootloop. It keeps loading the UD circle and flipping it then goes blank and repeats. What do I need to do to get it out of this? edit- I held X while turning it on to get into the clockwork menu and nandroid to try to restore the boot but it still didn't work. Was still looping the Ultimate Droid boot screen. edit again- I went back to that menu and restored system this time. Still loops but its the original droid boot screen now.

I exported my texts to an email through the phone and I figured everything else was being backed up to my gmail account like it states in the 'backup and reset" section. But low and behold, I've got squat coming back after doing a reset. Is there some special trick to restoring a backup or am I hosed?

I just performed a full wipe of my HTC One M7 and flashed a new rom. Once it was done I downloaded Titanium backup from the Play Store and restored all my backed up data. Note that I didn't back up my SMS messages with Titanium, just my SMS app, Textra.
Once it was done I opened up Textra and all my messages were sitting there just as they were before the wipe.
I'm pretty sure that Google doesn't backup things like SMS messages, so where did they come from?
I just signed up for these forums because soon I will be an HTC Desire owner in Canada. Having never owned a smartphone before I do have a few questions. The plan I intend on signing up for is the Telus Student 40 and that will come with only 100mb of data. Now I don't see myself being too data using heavy so I feel like I will be able to live with it. However I do have some questions regarding my data consumption.
1. Is it possible to completely stop all data usage by somehow disabling the data connection if I find myself reaching my limit?
2. What are ways to track my data usage to make sure I don't use too much data?
3. What are good ways to conserve data usage? I'm getting the feeling that there are some applications that will constantly be sending data back and forth updating themselves, is it possible to have these applications but stop them from constantly updating and only have them update when I want to access the application?.........
I'm using Titanium Backup to backup and restore my apps whenever I switch to a new ROM, and I was wondering: is it possible to have it automatically have it install apps without me having to manually hit "install" then "done"? I hate it cuz I could be restoring 40+ apps and I'd have to manually hit "install" for every one.
