I've been looking to swap out the HTC Desiree's keyboard for one with voice search in it. I installed Verizon's keyboard 2.1 but can't find a way of enabling it. I think it appears as 'Android Keyboard' under MENU > SETTINGS > LANGUAGE & KEYBOARD, but even although I ticked the box to use it, it still doesn't appear, defaulting to the HTC one instead.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just received my HTC Desire, which is great. My main problem with it so far is that the keyboard only supports English and French, and I need to write in Spanish. I've seen other people saying theirs additionally supports Spanish and Italian - is there any way I could add those languages? I only seem to have English and French locales, can I install new locales? I realise there are a number of third party keyboards, but I really like the default one.

How do I get a keyboard? I can't type anything.
I'm using the stock keyboard which works just fine pretty much all the time....it's just Facebook that seems to be giving me grief. Since the Android FB app is rubbish, I now use my web browser to fully browse FB (using Dolphin HD and full web view...not mobile view). When I click on the field to post a new comment on someone's page, the keyboard doesn't appear. The field will highlight green and the cursor will blink in the empty field but no keyboard. This is the only place I have found that the keyboard misbehaves. Replies to comments work fine. Is there an obvious way that I may be missing to force the keyboard open?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo far I've tried Ultra Keyboard on my Desire and have found that it force closed 7 or 8 times during the 24 hr trial and thats pretty poo. So I have uninstalled it and I've found Better Keyboard and someone suggested Smart Keyboard in this forum. I really like the iphone qwerty keyboard and how it works so wondering if anyone else had issues with fc on ultra keyboard or any of these other keyboard apps and what they did to fix it?

-Download and install hi-res version.
-Goto keyboard settings and enable HTC_IME.
-Long press on any text entry, select imput method and then select HTC_IME as default.
recently my keyboard has been changing from swiftkey back to the original android default keyboard without me changing any settings. Then i have to go back into settings and re-tick Swiftkey before i can select it again.

It would be good if it had a dock so it was "attached" to the keyboard, and excellent if it could be used to play games, e.g. SNESOID etc or Quake 3 etc. Micro USB might be better if such a thing exists due to the dodgy nature of the Desire's bluetooth.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI dont know when or how it started but the keyboard on my Desire now sounds like a typewriter and it doesnt do the suggested word thing anymore for when I mistype stuff.
Before it used to just do a little vibrate thing to let me know the key had been pressed.
Does anybody know how to get it back to this and make it correct my spelling again?

The QWERTY keyboard is too difficult to use while on the move, so I like to use the keypad (mobile set up) when sending text messages. The rest of the time I find the keyboard easier to use but it is a pain to switch between the 2. Is there anyway of setting different defaults, or an easier way of switching between the 2?

I tried to go calibrate the damn thing but when I go into Settings<language and keyboard the only options available are Select Local which leads to either Korean or English language and DioPen IME which leads to a bunch of options but none of which are keyboard calibrate. Is there anyway for me to calibrate the keyboard? I've tried downloading different keyboards from the market to see if they work better but when I select them in the language and keyboard folder they still don't work so I don't know what to do.

I have searched this forum (and others) and have not found anything that has worked so far....
Basically, I think the HTC keyboard is a bit too cluttered, and would prefer to use the default android keyboard (introduced in 2.1 I think, includes a voice entry button to the left of spacebar).
I've flashed with the new froyo ROM with senseUI and am finding it brill. One quirk though is that when typing out a text message, there's no key in the bottom left to minimize/esc from the keyboard. If I use the Back key it exits the app (chomp). It's still beta!)

View 7 Replies View Relatedits terrible. just cant type anything without mistakes. thats bullshit. tried to install some other keyboards, but even though theyre enabled in language & keyboard, i cant get them to work after froyo update (orange, unrooted). as much as i love my desire, yesterday i was so angry i almost smashed it on the wall because i was getting pissed of with the mf keyboard! i dont need fkin updates if the most important thing doesnt work - the keyboard! i also have an 3 gen ipod touch. the screen is smaller, resolution smaller, but typing is sweet.
View 37 Replies View RelatedWhenever possible I always use the landscape keyboard but have noticed that sometimes in messages (and web browser) that if I spot a mistake and use the trackpad or touch the screen to go back and correct whatever I type on the keyboard will not appear in the text. The keyboard still responds as you can see the popups for the keys when you press them but the text doe not go into the box. The only way I found to cure this is to close and reopen the keyboard and everything then starts working. I am running the recent OTA firmware update on a completely unrooted unbranded Desire.
