I'm about to purchase an HTC Desire after it comes out (I'm in Canada) and wanted to know if you can only set the phone to connect to one Wi-Fi network or if I can set multiple networks so the more places I go, like a friends house, I use less data.

My WiFi doesn't reach upstairs in my house, and for that reason, I have a wired connection that comes upstairs. I set my laptop up to share the wired internet connection through an AdHoc for other devices...except my Incredible. Kinda weird that Google didn't have this feature built in without having to root the phone. Does anyone know a way to connect to an AdHoc?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA Wi-Fi device running Android looks like being able to connect to a secured Wi-Fi access point using WEP, WPA, etc. I actually can't figure how to setup a "WPA Enterprise" secured Wi-Fi connection wich requires a certificate. I can't find a way to import a security certificate. I went to "Settings" app, "Wireless controls" menu, "Wi-Fi settings" menu, clicked the "Advanced" menu, "Security certificates" menu, clicked "Add certificates" menu to get an empty list. I tried to put the .cer file on the SD card but the list is still empty.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy SGS (well its actually my wife's but I use it also) will not connect to WiFi networks, other than the one we have at home. If we are out, the phone will be able to see lots of WiFi networks, but it cannot connect to any of them as it says the signal is poor. Other people can be sat right next to other with other phones and have no problem connecting and they have strong signals. At home it will connect, but even then there is only one bar of signal, even though the router is in the same room. It appears that the phone just cannot get a strong enough signal to connect.

Basically, the only location currently I really desire to use wifi is at home since if I'm at home, my phone is likely charging (since wifi eats battery) and the speed beats 3G. I'm going through appbrain.com and finding a lot of apps that automatically scan and connect to open networks, automatically connect to the fastest network, a bunch of wifi toggle widgets...nothing really for making conditions for what networks it will connect to, especially one that has a password.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my wifi wont conect to my homes wifi as of last night? i have had the x10 months and had no problems but my girlfriend bought the x10 mini yesturday, showed her how to connect it up to wifi networks i.e my own home one, then since that my x10 will not connect to mine an say unsuccessful even tho it will connect to any others. as it is very annoying having to boot the pc up to get on the web.

I'm having an issue with my wifi not connecting. I have to AP's in my house, on different channels. They work perfectly fine. I have the wifi toggle setting on the home screen that I usually press to toggle the wifi on/off. Recently, it hasn't been working after I disconnect from 3G and connect to wifi. It says the wifi is turned on, but it won't connect to either of the remembered APs. The only way to get it to automatically connect is to go to settings and view the list of APs. Only then will it connect to one of the two APs. This is really annoying, as it seemed to only start this recently and nothing has changed. My wifi sleep policy is never to turn off. It's a droid eris with 2.1 OTA. Ran a virus scan, nothing. Any ideas?

I was expecting it to be a diddle as I have had a desire NON HD with virgin back in June and it was easy to set up. Anyways turned it on and selected vodaphone with his Sim - didn't work so I put mine in and selected virgin but lo and behold no networks, just wifi.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe wireless network in my area follows the EALP/PEAP protocol which isn't supported on Android phones. So, I tried setting up local WiFi hotspots from my laptop to enable WiFi. But my phone doesn't detect that wireless network at all. My friend's Nokia E51 detects the hotspot, but not my HTC Desire. I tried detecting hotspots created from other laptops but the result remains the same. The E51 detects it but the Desire does not. Do I have to change some settings that I am unaware of?
View 5 Replies View Relatedthere is a very annoying bug which keeps switching to the "Available networks" window in Settings spontaneously, whilst I am doing something else (e.g. Surfing the Internet, looking through mail, etc). Thus far, I have hard reset 3 times and also tried powering on and off the device a few times. I also tried to Force Close it, use Task Killer and stop the service, but none of these have worked. Can someone please help me out with a solution to this? I'm considering returning the phone now...as it's making the phone unusable...

2. I live in Northern Ireland and have a 3uk phone but work near the border between the republic of ireland and northern ireland. All other phones that I have had allowed me to have a 3uk network connection within my workplace, but now with this phone it will not come off 3Irl and sometimes transfers into O2 Irl, which will cost me a lot if I answer. On 3Irl I can receive calls and messages free but it cost to send out.

I installed HTC Sync 2.0.28 on Win XP machine and Have HTC desire connected to it. Desire is able to connect to HTC Sync and works fine.
I have setup eclipse with Android SDK on the same Win XP machine.
Problem comes here ..
HTC sync works fine as long as i don't launch any Android SDK sample applications through eclipse on to virtual device. From that point phone no longer able connect to HTC Sync . Only Solution is i have to restart my workstation then only Desire is able to connect to Synch again. Restarting phone is not working.
having loads trouble trying to connect, on o2 network (but phone was intially vodaphone) when i purchased it got APN settings and all sweet , then htc sent update to my phone and since then no joy , went back to repair centre , recived it back yesterday and it's still the same argghhh.Htc say it's because it has been on vodaphone and this is causing the problem (even though it worked fine before they upgraded software!).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have checked the USB debugging (to on, presumably).Downloaded HTC Sync on PC as the PC is not recognising the phone at all. It simply says when trying to open in My Computer as "PLease insert disc into drive E." I've set the Default Connection Device to all options; HTC sync, disc drive (not bothering with internet sharing) - neither work. However the charge only setting does work.The USB lead supplied doesnt look like a car charging type. How can you tell? The HTC Sync screen on the PC doesnt even register that the phone is connected.I have no interest in syncing with Google contacts or calendar, however I would like to be able to transfer calender info and contacts to the PC, and transfer from the PC, music and applications to the phone.

Is there a way to allow my HTC Desire to connect to the internet via USB using the connection my PC has to the internet (i.e. using it as a gateway)? I know that you can use the phone to allow the PC to connect to the web - but is the opposite possible as well?

According to Vodafone this is now the standard HTC firmware with none of their nonsense installed. Now I cannot connect to wifi either at home or work. It can see the wireless networks OK, but gets stuck in a loop trying to connect - it seems to be trying to obtains an IP address, gives up and starts again endlessly. Having searched around the web this seems to be a common 2.2 issue. I've tried many times with forgetting the credentials, etc and have done the full factory reset. Not sure what to do next.

I am fine with this, but it makes the battery die so quickly. Any way I can make my phone auto connect to wifi or mobile web to do the updates, and then auto connect. Also, any decent facebook app that isnt the default one? I have also read that you can set different profiles up for work or home etc.
