As said in the title, my dad just received his new desire HD from Vodaphone and tasked me with setting it up. I was expecting it to be a diddle as I have had a desire NON HD with virgin back in June and it was easy to set up. Anyways turned it on and selected vodaphone with his Sim - didn't work so I put mine in and selected virgin but lo and behold no networks, just wifi.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe wireless network in my area follows the EALP/PEAP protocol which isn't supported on Android phones. So, I tried setting up local WiFi hotspots from my laptop to enable WiFi. But my phone doesn't detect that wireless network at all. My friend's Nokia E51 detects the hotspot, but not my HTC Desire. I tried detecting hotspots created from other laptops but the result remains the same. The E51 detects it but the Desire does not. Do I have to change some settings that I am unaware of?

Thus far, I have hard reset 3 times and also tried powering on and off the device a few times. I also tried to Force Close it, use Task Killer and stop the service, but none of these have worked. Can someone please help me out with a solution to this? I'm considering returning the phone now...as it's making the phone unusable...

2. I live in Northern Ireland and have a 3uk phone but work near the border between the republic of ireland and northern ireland. All other phones that I have had allowed me to have a 3uk network connection within my workplace, but now with this phone it will not come off 3Irl and sometimes transfers into O2 Irl, which will cost me a lot if I answer. On 3Irl I can receive calls and messages free but it cost to send out.

I am trying to reduce the battery consumption on my Note. I have several apps which use the GPS but the gpsd process is being called quite a lot, even when I am not using any GPS app.
Simple question - now that I have established which service is being called (using better battery stats) is there a way to determine which app(s) are using it? GT-N7000

A contrived example would be a service that simply displays the name of the current running activity as an Ongoing Notification. For instance, when the user is reading a particular email, the name of the activity (hopefully the email title!) would appear in the notifications window and when the user switches to read a text message, the notification would change to show the name of the new activity. Is there a way to do this in Android?

What I want is for a user action (button press etc) to start the service, which it does. Then I want the user, some time later, to press another button to stop the service. Which it does. But if the main activity loses focus (i.e. I go to the home screen) when I return to the activity it has no knowledge of the service anymore - even though the service is still running. When the activity resumes, how do I find out a) if the service is running, and if so b) re-bind to it, so that I can then stop it and collect the data I'm after.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI'm getting beat down with GTALK_ASYNC_CONN wakelocks while on my work's AP.... the specific WL is :gtalk_async_conn com.google.android.gsf.gtalkservice.androidendpoint.... something everyone has been complaining about recently, and I never saw it until recently (now that I got up to 4.1.2 a short time ago.
Is there a way to determine exactly who is generating that WL? It's not related to GTALK, as the WL name incorrectly leads us to believe, but it must be google, and I only see it fire when the Wi-Fi is connected and in use. It's non-existent when I'm on Mobile. It comes and goes, sometimes chugging wake time like its cheap beer, othertimes it's dormant, and I haven't been able to figure out who is using it based on the context of when it occurs.
There HAS to be a log or something somewhere that says process X is responsible.
My boss has a new stock HTC Desire, he also performed an upgrade to the latest firmware.
Now it won't find anything when using "Search for devices" option.
It can be discovered by other devices if I set it to be discoverable, but it cannot detect any new devices, no phones no computers or bluetooth extension devices.
Has anyone experienced the same thing? Any ideas how to fix it? We would like to pair it with a Parrot Minikit Slim handsfree kit.
I hope to get a lot of experience on using my, for me, way too complicated HTC Desire, 1337 android users! So here's the deal. I bought an almost brand new Desire from a friend a couple of months ago. Since I just moved to another city, I was extremely fond of the GPS navigation software and the Google maps app. It was working like a charm, despite the fact that I read that the Froyo update had complicated things for some users.
Anyways, I've been using it massively, and have always been able to get a quick location and satellite fix. However, the other day - it just couldn't find any satellites at all! Since then I've been on an internet scavenge hunt for clues as to what might be the problem, and I've downloaded GPS tester and various other apps for GPS configuration and ultimately ended up doing a "hard reset" in sheer desperation. How can this be? I mean, to me it doesn't make a whole lotta sense for it to just stop working like that.
When i first switched the phone on i put my flickr account details in. However I can't find any app for Flickr. Surely I entered all of the details at the start for a reason!

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I looked at the active connections on my wireless router I spotted a connection called "gasman". After a few minutes checking I realised that it was my Desire. Prior to recent 2.2 upgrade the connection name had been "unknown_ the MAC address". My wife's Desire does still connect as "unknown". I've had a fairly good look into settings and can't find anything that would name the connectioin as "gasman". Has anyone got any clues where I might find the name?

When using position based apps on my new Desire (Android 2.1) I can't help but notice that finding the location always takes forever (>1 minute after switching GPS on).My old HTC HD (Windows Mobile 6.1) was much quicker in providing a location after switching on GPS. The trick was, that the HTC HD had a pre-installed application "QuickGPS" that regularly downloaded some data that apparently helped in locating the satellites and/or calculating the position. On my old device I thus had a valid position typically in less than 10 seconds after switching GPS on.I haven't found any similar utility for Android and I don't want to have GPS active all the time for battery reasons. Are there any similar tools or other "tricks" that can help the GPS subsystem to provide the location quicker?

On to business: This morning I wanted to take a daft self-portrait of myself (a doddle on the ol' sony erisscon). It's really tricky and I tried self timer etc... So I looked in the big manual. Page 143 and 146 describe an auto capture function - for just such an event as a daft self portrait. Only problem is I can't find it!
I'm in camera - definitely photo not video - and then menu which brings up settings. All the settings are there except that one.
Any ideas? Would be handy to know where my "auto capture" option has gone!
I just got my desire back from repair. I thought everything would be backed up, and that I could just load my backup file once the phone was started for the first time. But apparently, this is not the case... HTC has stopped the support for this backup from Android 2.1 to 2.2 they told me in their phone support.... They advised me to download a file manager, and locate e.g my sms messages, and recreate them from there. However, I have not been able to find that folder? I can se lots of other old data, so the sd card has not been formatted...
