I have in my car a hands-free kit for a Qtek 9100 which has work fine for years with the Qtek. I bought a mini to micro USB adapter so that I could use the kit with the new Desire HD, but when I plug the new phone to the micro USB adapter the Desire HD just shuts down and I have to remove and replace the battery to get it working again.

It seems the micro USB plug is on the top of the phone. Won't this cause things to get in the way? How will a dock work with the phone upside down? I think I would have to get a new car mount for this phone if I got it with the plug on top like that.

The usb plug used in it does not have the little locking tabs that are traditionally present in micro-usb plugs. The absence of them makes it really easy to remove the droid from the dock and I want to buy one to try to incorporate into another dock. I suppose I could always try to break off the tabs, but I would prefer to find an off the shelf solution since it already exists.

View 26 Replies View RelatedAs I had a Nokia N85 laying around, containing a 8GB micro SDHC class 6 memory card, I was planning on using this on my desire, since that only came with a 4gb card. However, I formatted the 8GB card in windows, (to fat 32). (I've might have formatted the partitions and everything as well). But either the Desire or PC cant find my SD card at this point. When I put the 8gb card into my N85 and then connect the N85 to my PC, the computer finds it. My N85 has no problem locating the SD card either. What to I have to do to the SD card to be able to use it with my Desire?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFrom last one day, I am suffering from this problem, my HTC Desire HD rooted and installed with ViperDHD keeps restarting as it soon as it boots. The phone bootscreen shows, finishes, even the android home screen appears but just for one second and then goes blank and restarts. This all started happening, when I had connected my phone with my computer and a restart occurred, instantaneously.
I have tried everything, Factory reset, full wipe, keeping battery out for 10 minutes, removing SIM and SD card, formatting SD card, even re-installling 2 different ROMs with Full wipe but the problem still persists.
While I do realize it might be a hardware issue but it is impossible go give it up to any service center because it is an imported piece without any warranty. I won't give up that easily. Here are some of the stuff I tried, and some observations I made Device shuts off at bootscreen if there is no SD card, (I doubt that SD card is an essential thing).
I can only boot into recovery where adb logcat or adb bugreport don't work. I tried adb shell find -f | log. None of the log files seemed useful. Is there something I can find here?
What kind of hardware issue might it be? Is it possible to debug it? and what causes shut down? and since I am have some knowledge of computers at lower level, C and linux, is it possible to hack into the kernel and perhaps correct what might be wrong?
the phone is top notch but every now and then it will just shut down and then will take bout half hour to get back on as when turn on it shuts down again and again. It mainly happens when running apps and internet, say i got internet n fb running then i start typing a text it will shut down for no reason i havnt a clue why this is happening. Getting so frustrating as i love the phone but i cant deal with it. Also why cant i browse the main browser using my 3g connection only with wi-fi but i can use opera mini using 3g ? thanks alot !

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan i use my ipod charger plug, with one of my many spare usb-mini usb cables i have for many gadgets (ie cameras/camcorders), to charge my desire? or is the ipod plug rated to push through a different numbers of amps/volts/currants/electrons/whatever to my desire, ultimately killing it? this will save me and probably a lot of other folk a few quids in buying spare chargers etc, as i am sure we've all got a spare mini-usb cable and an ipod lying around. i am talking about this part, or one of these for car charging.

Everything seems to work fine, except for two things: BIG THING: Whenever I try to use the GPS function on my phone the phone just shuts off and restarts. (this is when I use the GPS satellites function. NOT when I use the "use wireless networks" setting under the Location sub-section of settings) When I turn on GPS and try to get "my location" in google maps. It restarts. When I use Yelp it turns off.
SMALL thing: The wifi tether is decent but it often stops working (I used the google one). I.e. The computer that's connected to the wireless network either gets disconnected, or it thinks it's disconnected but the internet just doesn't work. At this point, I just simply shut the tether on and off. But it's slightly inconvenient. Is this an issue other people are having?
My phones got a full battery but if I go to take it off the charger it shuts off. I've tried taking the battery out but still doesn't turn back on unless I plug it back into the charge. I need my phone for work I drive the work truck and have to stay in contact with the people at work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read all the posts I could find. I just want the phone to never dim. The option to have it shut off at 2 minutes is perfect. I just hate the dimming that happens before it shuts off. I have tried screebl but is completely disables screen off timer. I just want it to stop dimming and just shut the screen off according to the display timeout. It dims reguardless of manual or automatic brightness. I don't want to disable the screen off timer either. IF I leave the phone on at the table and walk away, I do want it to turn off in 2 minutes.
What can I do to just keep the freaking phone from dimming yet still shut off with the timer?
yesterday, I spent several hours trying to figure out how to capture the HEADSET_PLUG intent with a BroadcastReceiver. The manifest defines the <receiver>, with its intent-filter set to <action android:name="android.intent.action.HEADSET_PLUG" />.
The receiver is working correctly (I verified that by changing the intent filter to capture things like SMS_RECEIVED including the proper permissions and the receiver fired as expected on receiving an SMS), but when listening for HEADSET_PLUG, it never fires. Debugging the whole thing is a bit complicated, as the emulator doesn't seem to support headsets and I have to disconnect my target device (a HTC Dream) from USB in order to attach a headset (so there's no logfile viewing). Are there any special permissions required for applications to capture the HEADSET_PLUG intent (and if so, which? I've tried several, to no avail)?
Maybe the Dream doesn't fire such an intent at all (that'd be bad luck for me), but I guess that it must be an issue related to application permissions. The documentation says extremely little (well, actually: nothing) about the single permissions needed to perform all the actions described in the API docs, so this is absolutely something to be improved.
What I want to do: Upon detecting a headset, I want to re-route the ringtones from the speakers to the headset, so as not to annoy people in my vicinity by a harsh ringing sound (I'm used to this behaviour from my old phone) - by default, the speaker just keeps on ringing, no matter whether a headset is attached or not. This part is already working, but now I need to know how to detect headset attachment/ detachment events.
I updated to 2.1 yesterday (Official 2.1, recover 3.0.8., rootv7) and today it's shut off twice randomly. I have to pull the battery to get it to power back up.
