Can I use my phone so it becomes a wifi adapter to pick up the wireless network in the house?I have a second pc up and running now, and until I get a separate adapter I wondered whether the phone could be used for such a thing.

I'm switching over from Windows Mobile and I am a big user of WMWifiRouter. I know there are some Android apps for tethering, but there is a feature of WMWifiRouter that allows me to connect USB to WiFi and enable my phone to be used as a WiFi adapter. Is there such an app for Android? Thanks in advance!

What i want to do, is use either my tab 2 7.0 or my old htc hero as a router. I want to set up a homegroup from my server, but dont want to buy a router. My isea is to create a network and broadcast it from the wifi card in the ohone. This probably wont connect to the internet any time soon, but i feel that as long as i only need to access movies and stuff from my server the phone card's radiuswill suffuce.

I have in my car a hands-free kit for a Qtek 9100 which has work fine for years with the Qtek. I bought a mini to micro USB adapter so that I could use the kit with the new Desire HD, but when I plug the new phone to the micro USB adapter the Desire HD just shuts down and I have to remove and replace the battery to get it working again.

since the Desire supports USB tethering, this might be a bit stupid, but does it support the xbox by any chance since I was wondering if it could be used like an adapter to connect to XBOX LIVE

I was wondering if I can use the Desire as a wireless adapter for a PC. I mean to connect it through USB so the PC will detect it as a wireless adapter, just like a USB wifi adapter. I'm not talking about tethering and sharing the 3G internet with the PC.
Well, I would like to know if it's possible on any Android device in general, or at least to know if it's just impossible with Android OS.

I'm having to move networks from Virgin back to o2.
I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...

Can you tell me (viz. those of you with a working hotspot!), can you still use your browser when the hotspot is active. Just turning the hotspot on on my desire cuts the (mobile data) internet connection with the browser, and anything else!
In fact even after turning off the hotspot I have to toggle mobile data on/off & toggle APN's to get mob. data back.
Also which Orange APN's/usernames/passwords do you have success with & which not?
I have tried all the posted solutions & even HTC technical!
Any bright ideas anyone?
I think my last resort is to de-brand (unlocked Tmob used on Orange sim) I reckon!
I have to get this working for use abroad. It's driving me nuts!

But I dont know where to get the apps listed below. Am I missing something?
Turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot. Other devices can connect via wireless and share your phones internet. Take screenshots of your phone from your phone. Better memory management, your phone will never slow down. Overclock your phone, more speed! (If possible!) Full backup ability. Backup your whole phone state. Restoring this backup puts your phone in the exact same condition as the backup. Use 'Market Enabler' to access paid apps if currently unavailable in your country.

I am in a deployed location in Afghanistan and within my compound, we utilize satellite internet and broadcast it via WIFI just for us who have paid. Some of the guys here have implemented a few security features so other people around us can hack our network. The WIFI is encrypted with WPA2 and a password. After that to surf on the internet on my laptop I have to input a proxy address of 10.10.8.2, I can connect to the wireless via my Desire, but I cant surf the internet, check email, or do anything that requires a data connection.Other people here have no problem getting their Ipod touches and Iphones on the WIFI.Is there some setting I am over looking because to me there are not a lot of settings I can change in the first place. If I need to download a program to help, please give info how to do so without an internet connection directly on the phone.

This is my first post, after reading helpful posts for many months. I was wondering if anyone knows how to stop the Desire/android from automatically connecting to specific wifi networks. I have a wifi network at home which I want the phone to always connect to when in range. I also have a wifi network at work, that I only want to connect to from time to time to update the calendar and download emails. Currently I have to turn off wifi when at work until I need it, but I've had this working before. I'm on my second Desire as the Orange 2.2 update fubar'd the first , my first phone would always ask me if I wanted to connect to the works wifi, the new one just connects straight away, and it will only be a matter of time before my twitter app gets me into trouble.

I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

I've seen discussions on how to use your android phone as several different things, ranging from a wireless hot spot to a keyboard/mouse. There are instructions all over on how to tether your phone to use it as a wireless modem, but I've never seen mention on whether or not it was possible to use an android phone as a USB blue tooth adapter. My Android phone is blue tooth enabled, but neither of my laptops are. Is there any way to use the phone as a blue tooth adapter when connected to the laptop via the USB cable (giving the laptop blue tooth capabilities)? I know I can always just buy an adapter from the store, but I wanted to see if this was a possibility first.

Does anyone have a dual SIM adapter fitted to their HTC phone? I am looking for one and would prefer the non-cutting type, though there doesn't seem to be enough room under the cover for the second to sit. Has anyone managed to find a good one that works on the Magic?

I'm not sure if it's just me experienced this wired situation. I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?

I have read all I can about using the Inc overseas and am confused. If the phone is switched to WiFi in a WiFi spot, can you use the phone? I have read that Verizon put some sort of restrictions on it, but I'm not savvy enough to understand it all. My daughter is in the Coast Guard and we both have DInc's. She goes to places like Star Bucks in other countries that offers WiFi and we would LOVE to be able to text each other with our phones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having an issue with my new Desire HD in that it won't connect to my home Wifi. It can find the network no problem and select it, but after I type in the password it says "Disconnected" then seems to go through Disconnected-Scanning-Connecting-Disconnected loop without letting me know whats happening. Initially I thought to myself "Perhaps it doesn't like WPA2", so I completely opened up the network. Then after scanning, it was showing on the phone that the network was still WPA/WPA2. I tried connecting to it anyways but it still asked me for a password and wouldn't let me through without one. Thinking something funky must have happened, I restarted the phone but it didn't change anything.

I regularly charge my phone overnight and always have every possible sych set to manual so I only update exactly whe I want to. However, when I wake up I find that the wifi has swithched itself on. I am thinking that I have an update turned on somewhere but cannot think which one it might be.
Is this auto turn on wifi enabled from some other kind of process?
Also, as you might have tried this, what is the concensus of the following method of charging the battery:
To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well
I have tried this but am not sure I'm getting much more than a regular 8 hour overnight charge. (My phone is getting average use over the day).
