HTC Desire :: Google Editions Announced

May 5, 2010

I used to love mobipocket, but a combination of Amazon's unwillingness to release new versions of the code, and increasing regional restrictions on book sales have left me unwilling to use it.

In truth, they've made it harder to buy a book than it is to obtain a pirated version...

So, maybe Google Editions will bring us a useful, open standard for ebooks - we can but hope!

Sprint HTC Hero :: Android 2.0 Just Officially Announced By Google

Oct 27, 2009

It's official, 2.0 is out and soon the SDK will be released to developers!

Let's hope this gets on the Hero fast! It'll be interesting, with Sense UI. Hopefully HTC has been working with Google on this and our wait is minimal.

If Sprint were the only company with the Hero, I'd be worried, but internationally it's all over the place, so that's good.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Officially Announced - Engadget

Nov 3, 2009

Official Press release here

Engadget Hands On Here

So what do we now know? No 32GB internal, just 1GB (but shipped with 8GB SD). No OLED, good ol' TFT. No 1080p recording (was far too good to be true).

Biggest Dissapointment? Android 1.6, not 2.0

Other than that, all the rumors seemed to shape up. I looks good on paper, the hands on was dissapointing to see it in such an unfinished state. I think I will have to reserve judgement till it smartens itself up a little more.

Android :: Yahoo Messenger With Video - Release Announced

Oct 11, 2010

Well, they officially were approved from Itunes (Apple) a little earlier today and it is live. What disappoints me is the fact that they said they submitted it to Android Apps but it doesn't take but a few hrs to go through Android submitting process. And this was a few days ago from what I understand. I wonder when we will get it. I've been waiting for it since they announced the release of the Apple version. From the reviews I've been reading on itunes they said fairly positive. Minor things here and there but overall they are saying the video quality isn't half bad. Not as great as facetime but hell I'm sure it's better then movicha and the other one.

HTC Desire :: Heating Up While Using Google Nav And Shutting Down

Oct 14, 2010

I have a Desire running Froyo, when I'm using the Google Nav the phone tends to get very hot and (i assume) that upon reaching a certain temperature shuts down and re boots. Usually just when I'm totally lost! If i hold the phone in front of a vent with the air conditioning on to cool down its fine again, if i don't then once the nav is restarted it will shut down the phone again. The air conditioning trick isn't the answer as i have to sit in a freezing cold car in the middle of winter in order to use my sat nav. Is this a fault?

HTC Desire :: Calendar Won't Sync To Google

Sep 29, 2010

HTC O2 Desire with 2.2 upgrade. All seems to be ok except for a Calendar problem.I tried to use HTC Synch, want to move apps to sd card, and managed to add extra anniversaries to my calendars i.e Outlook, Google and Desire.Outlook and Google had duplicate anniversaries and Desire has triplicate. Before I reconnect my Desire to my pc via HTC sync I need to resolve the triplication problem i.e. get my Desire to sync with Google calendar via my gmail acccount.I edited the online Google calendar and left that to synch with desktop Outlook via its normal sych routine. Outlook did ask one question; should it delete 169 items. I answered yes and Outlook updated. During this time I switched off synch on my Desire.I then tried to sych Desire to Google via my home wifi but without success. It seems that Desire synch will not stay up. The synch symbol shows for a few seconds then goes either using manual or autosynch; wifi is there all the time and I have a connection to my ISP i.e I can surf all I want using the wifi router connected to my desktop. Desire wifi signal shown as full strength.

I notice that if I manually synch my Desire the sync symbol against "Sync Calendar" stays on for some 15 seconds (but is not rotating after the symbol disappears from the top of the screen) whereas for Gmail and contacts the symbols quickly go out suggesting that more activity is taking place in calendar? Also the sync symbol at the top of the screen matches for contacts and Gmail but goes out after a few seconds for Calendar i.e does not stay on for 15 seconds.

HTC Desire :: Syncing With Google Calendar

Nov 28, 2010

I have a Macbook with iCal configured to match my Google calendar account. The two sync together with no problem. I tried setting up my HTC Desire to sync with my Google account which should give me three way sync but I get the following problem: I open Calendar on my phone, I try to add an event, a message appears saying: YOU HAVE NO CALENDARS. On the settings side, if I hit MENU then MORE and I choose CALENDARS I can't see my Google account. If I hit SETTINGS there is nothing to add my Google account. If I go to the ACCOUNTS & SYNC settings, I see my Google account, but when I hit my account, the data synchronization theme only shows SYNC CONTACTS and SYNC GMAIL, there is no SYNC GOOLGLE CALENDAR. I had Syncmate installed on my macbook and had it configured on my Desire, but it didn't sync the calendar either so I deleted it from my accounts. Could this be causing my problem or does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Aug 1, 2010

Can someone explain to me how it works? Did a search on google and couldnt find the info I thought I knew about it. Am I right in thinking that it is via this that chrome/firefox to phone works, and that you can do backup and restore to and from the cloud? If so, how does one go about that? And in that case, is the cloud better for backing up than lookout? Cause I'm thinking of getting look out now that my wavesecure free trial is over (dont really want to spend $19.99 if lookout is just as good and free?)

HTC Desire :: Genuine Use Of Google Earth?

Jun 4, 2010

I've pretty much hit the limit for installed apps on my Desire. Unless I root, which I don't really want to do, or get the official 2.2 update, which could take months and months given HTC's track record, I'm stuck with doing a spot of space management. I've got Google Earth installed and it's far and away the most resource hungry app (22MB) Despite the fact that I really like it, as it's a pretty cool app, I'm wondering if it's of any use at all. With google maps, places directory, Layar etc. I seem to have everything I need for navigation and generally 'finding stuff' I can't think of anything I actually need Google Earth for. Does anyone have a genuine use for this app, can it do anything that I can't do elsewhere? 22MB seems like a lot of valuable space for an app that's just there for novelty value.
