I have recently changed my email address for a variety of reasons, and am wondering how my paid apps will be supported through this transition? Can i just remove the old gmail account from and add the new one to the phone?

So my primary computer crashed and I had to reinstall all my programs and restore files from a backup. I had been syncing my Outlook calendar with my Gmail account using Google Calendar Sync which would then sync with my Captivate. When I reinstalled Outlook and synced with Gmail, it created duplicates of all my appointments. The only way to fix this was to delete all my appointments in Gmail and resync. Unfortunately, it didn't remove the duplicates from my phone. In fact, I have triplicates of many appointments. I thought I could just remove the Gmail account from my phone and add it back. Nope, my phone says that it's required by some programs and can only be removed through a factory reset. I thought that maybe I had to have a Gmail account on the phone for it to work so I added another one. I then attempted to delete the original. Nope, still wouldn't let me. Since that wasn't the problem I tried to delete the newly added account. Nope, no can do. So am I understanding correctly that there is no way to remove an account once it's been added without doing a factory reset?

The second was really just for conveniance sake of checking the account of a activity club I belong to, but I don't need it if it means not getting the notifications for the my primary account.
While adding additional accounts is easy as pie, I cannot for the life of me find a way to remove one once it is on there.
Please advise how to remove previously installed Gmail account.

I get the following message, This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults. You do that in settings, under privacy. Is there anyway to do it without resetting the phone? I dont want to reset it as i the phone is rooted, has custom ROM with over 100 apps.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have about 300-odd contacts on my Gmail account - most, if not all, have no telephone number information on them, but I am guessing they still get copied over to the phone? Such that I will have a contact card on the phone that has no number, just an email? I don't email that much from my phone, so it seems pointless having most of these "email only" contacts on my phone. Secondly, a number of these contacts are named by email address i.e. some contact names appear as "doug1986" simply because Gmail has taken it from the email address doug1986@whatever.com. I really rather not have these synced across tot he mobile as they are old addresses (which I still dont want to delete).

It takes all the emails from my home account as well as showing emails from my new gmail address. However, when it takes emails from my home account it doesn't leave a copy in that account. I like gmail dragging in emails from my home account but I also like having the emails in my home account too. I have tried to find the answer on both gmail and my home account settings but can't get to the bottom of it. Does anyone know how to drag emails into my gmail account but keep a copy in the original account?

Obviously some clearly legit apps there but has anyone heard of any problems. It also neatly coincided with google asking me for my phone number as a backup in case i forget my password. Defo legit as that pop up came through secure google login.
When I tried to remove (settings->accounts & sync) the gmail account that was used during the initial phone setup, it prompted this message -> Remove account. This account is required by some applications. You can only delete it by resetting the phone to factory defaults. I would like to change it to another gmail account. Is such a drastic move (reset to factory default) necessary? Any workaround?

I also synced my new account in gmail, but cant delete the original account without master resetting the phone and I ain't prepared to lose all my personal settings and info.

However, nothing happen when I manually sync. The icon rotating indicated that sync was in process. Afterward, I checked on my gmail's contacts, nothing change. No contact has phone number. I have two Gmail accounts setup on my phone, both of which use Google Apps, so the addresses are (at) example1.com and (at) example2.com as opposed to ending in gmail.com. I use my first account to sync my contacts, calendar and mail, and my secondary account just syncs mail. I then added an old @gmail.com account for no particular reason and now it won't let me delete it and gives this reason: "This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults".
When I first added the account, by default it didn't turn on mail sync. I have left that unchecked, and also left contacts and calendar sync unchecked. Therefore, this account hasn't yet interacted with any apps/programs. Is the reason I can't delete this @gmail.com account because Android recognizes it as a 'proper' Gmail address? I have searched for similar threads, but ultimately the discussions there seem to focus on different problems.
Droid X - Configured with a Google Apps Premiere, working great. Attempting to add a personal GMail account. Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to add a 2nd gmail account through the gmail app. it goes through the entire process, goes to the sync page and allows me to select what i wish to sync up then gives me a confirmation that the account has been added but when i go to the gmail app and check accounts it still only lists the 1 original account. i've tried powering the phone off and restarting - also added the account via HTC email app and deleted the 2nd account via HTC email app just in case it was conflicting there

Afterwards, I went to Remove account, but was met repeatedly with "Error Removing Account: An error has occurred. Please try again." I want to get rid of this Yahoo! Mail account without having to bloody reset the whole device.

Is this only way to delete/remove second google account from my phone? I'm using google Apps Standard Edition which is using my own domain name. Everything is ok till I add second gmail account like xxxx@gmail.com. Call verizon and spoke with them two hours. they transfer me here and there and no solution but do a factory format.

I obtained an Android from a friend and created a second account for the Play Store. Now I want to remove the initial account (first on the list). It has as its ID a non Gmail account and I do not know the password associated with it.
I went into App settings and for Google Play Store clicked on Clear data. That did not remove either account.
What are the step to take to remove the initial account?
