Sorry guys, kinda new to the whole networks overseas game. Is it possible to buy the European version of this phone and use it on say ATT or T-Mobile, or is that not an option?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

From what I have seen in some articles the camera and camcorder functions / look and feel haven't changed. anybody else know of differences other than the addition of crappy new apps i didn't ask for... thanks T-Mobile
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am on my second handset and I am having so many problems with the phones I'm thinking of just giving up and trying to switch to a Samsung Galaxy S. I'm on the wretched Orange network and my phone has these problems:
- Non-working FM radio - it is static on every setting, although sometimes Radio 2 works(!) regardless of what headphones are plugged in.
- Alarm not working - It just doesn't go off if left overnight, even when turned on and with 2 alarms set.
- No internet via 3G - It gives no traffic, completely dead regardless of signal strength. It works via GSM and HSDPA.
- Randomly dropping calls.
- Randomly not able to send texts.
- People ring me and it goes randomly straight to answerphone.
- Erratic bluetooth, sometimes it works ok, other times it randomly disconnects from headset or car system.
It seems like almost every problem present on this forum, my phone has at once and it's driving me mad. Are these problems likely to be due to the horrible old ROM version that Orange runs (1.15.61.10)? They won't update it because it is too much work to stuff all of their crapware onto newer versions (solely designed to make you pay for things that are already available free, e.g. maps, ringtones etc). I dread to think how long it will be for Froyo on Orange. I am scared of updating the firmware incase it doesn't fix my problems and then I may not be able to get a replacement. Has anyone else used a replacement firmware to get rid of any of the above problems, or should I bite the bullet and go for a Samsung (I know it is cheaper built and doesn't have sense but at least it works right?). Does anyone know if the new "Black" handset on Orange runs the same firmware or has any updates? Also, that awesome Clock feature on Desire, with Alarm, Stopwatch, Timer, etc. Is that Android or Desire cos I'd hate to lose it by changing from HTC.
For some reason my phone randomly drops off the network and when people call me they go straight to voice mail while the phone doesn't ring at all. I still have 3 / 4 bars and can receive text messages so I'm not sure what's wrong. It seems to have started since I've started using the Airplane mode but this could be a coincidence.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd share my experience of this in case anybody else found themselves in a similar situation whilst doing Over The Air ROM updates.So I got home from the pub last night and decided it was the right time to update my phone to Android 2.2 (hey, I'd had five pints, anything and everything sounded like a "good idea"!).For background you should know that I spent last weekend making a gold card and flashing my Orange branded Desire to the v1.15xxx generic ROM to get rid of all the Orange crap.I did not root or unlock.I checked for updates, and instead of being offered 2.2 Froyo, I was offered 1.21xxx. Curses! I know from reading on here that v1.21 breaks the wifi. However, reading through the official Froyo thread in this forum I found a post by somebody in a similar situation suggesting that by upgrading to 1.21 and then checking for updates he was able to install 2.2.That was good enough for me (yes, five pints) so, with my gold card inserted, I accepted the update to 1.21 and left it to do its thing. Eventually it finished, but when it booted for the last time it said the SIM was network locked and I had to contact my operator.

My phone is sim free and unbranded so trying my orange or tesco sim? The only thing, would it mess up all my settings?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a Htc Desire which is a Telus phone it is supposed to be unlocked and runs on Hspa 1900mhz and 850 mhz, but Sasktel's website says that it doesn't seem to be compatible. So the question is why? It appears this device is not compatible with the SaskTel 3G+ network. If you believe your device should be compatible and the tool does not recognize it, please bring it to a SaskTel store or authorized dealer for more information.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had an unlocked HTC Desire on Three for a couple of months and it's all up-to-date - running on Froyo and updated again just this morning. Yesterday the phone dropped off Three and roamed onto Orange which isn't right because I get a full signal on Three in my house.
I phoned Three last night and they said there wasn't a problem with the network in my area. The woman I spoke to suggested taking the sim card and battery out, leaving it 5 minutes and then trying it. I did this this morning and it made no difference. I also set the phone into 3G only and manually scanned for networks and it couldn't find any.
I phoned again this morning and was told there is a known bug with the HTC Desire locking onto partner networks. I've been told to get the phone flashed but that sounds like a bit of a fob-off to me, especially when I can't find any reference to this problem on the internet.
I ALWAYS have my carrier 3g network and blu-tooth turned off at all times using the power control widget that came with my HTC Desire. but when i turn on my phone, my carrier network and blu-tooth are turnred on, and my mail and some other things get refreshed, using up data.
Is there a good widget or app that permanently stops the network and blu-tooth from turning on unless i do it manually? i cant find one on the market! i only set my refreshes of my mail to just once a day, and is there a way to set these refreshes to none a day, just manually?

In terms of 3g coverage but mainly 2g coverage (calls and texts) also is there a particular network that brands the desire the least and is quickest when releasing updates for it. (By the way i am a complete noob this will be my 1st android phone so please don't suggest debranding or rooting as i wont do as i would just break it)

View 42 Replies View RelatedI am on a debranded Orange handset running Android 2.2. Had the phone for around 4 months without issue. I went to London last weekend and started noticing problems with the mobile internet. I was largely relying on it to get me around but the mobile internet is playing up. Even if I have H or 3G signal, my phone has suddenly stopped getting internet access or i get network errors. Nothing has changed on my handset and I usually get good signal wherever I go. I'm currently in work where I always get 3G symbol. I have the 3G symbol now with both arrows animated yet my web browser won't load anything and the market place just says I have no network access. Could this be something to do with the Orange/T-Mobile merge? Or has my phone died on me?

I've managed to fix it i think. It would seem something I installed (im thinking SwitchPro Widget) changed the APN name in the settings to orangeinternet_off.

I alternate between two wifi networks on my HTC Desire running Android 2.2 ( I think!)On one network I need to specify the network IP/subnet/Gateway and so on, on the other network I can use DHCP.Is there any way to tell Android that whenever I connect to one wifi network it should use the static IP and on the other it should get an IP automatically?I am forever going into advanced wifi settings and changing them back and forth. I'd love for my phone to remember the settings used on each wifi profile.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

View 2 Replies View Relatedhaving loads trouble trying to connect, on o2 network (but phone was intially vodaphone) when i purchased it got APN settings and all sweet , then htc sent update to my phone and since then no joy , went back to repair centre , recived it back yesterday and it's still the same argghhh.Htc say it's because it has been on vodaphone and this is causing the problem (even though it worked fine before they upgraded software!).

I'd like to know if anyone can tell me which is the best/most stable ROM to change to, and also and most importantly, if I change to another version, preferably unbranded HTC 2.1, what happens when Orange push OTA updates out?
Will my phone try and download the Orange updates? Or will it attach to some HTC server somewhere and download the generic version?
Id rather not have to manually update everytime a new ROM comes out, so it would be good if I didn't have to, but I would think each network would only provide their own version OTA. Is this right?
Can someone help with how to unlock HTC Desire on 3 network?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe strange thing is, the only way for me to get this update is to re-flash the phone with the RUU WWE 2.10.405.2 file, but as soon as i do a factory reset the market will no longer update to the new version, strange to say the least.Could everyone please list the country, firmware and market version, this may help to find a reason for this strangeness.
View 11 Replies View RelatedOkay so I rooted a few months ago, and installed a baked FroYo ROM from MoDaCo. However I want to update it to a later version. My question is this:
Since I've already rooted, and can use Hboot, can I simply copy the new zipped ROM to my SD Card, and install it through Hboot, or do I have to do through the whole rooting path again?
I'm constantly flashing new ROM's my end to try and find one that suits. As I'm sure you're all aware, most of them say "Use this Radio for best results". I've stuck with a previously flashed radio for the last few ROM's. I'm about to flash Defrost 6.0. The literature surrounding the ROM says to use a specific Radio to get the camera to work.
My hesitation is this - I've read that trying to flash the same radio version as the one you already have flashed can brick the phone? Is this true? If so, how do I find out which radio version I have?
