What is the best format and quality of video to play on the desire.Fancy taking a few films with me when next on hols.If the need converting first can you suggest a good conversation utility for Windows.

In the camcorder application, I have chosen to record the video's in MP4. However, when you then side load them to the PC or what-not they appear as 3GPP or something. Is 3GPP a version of MP4 or is the camcorder telling fibs? If it's not, how do I record in plain old MP4?

I've seen video samples and they look great, very clear and no stuttering, but I was surprised to see a website stating it recorded at 15fps, is this right? I thought it was 30?
What is the format of the video when you transfer it to a PC? 3gp or MP4?
I'm new to the Android OS having been a Symbian (2nd phone is a Nokia N97) and Windows Mobile user previously. My question regards a copy of Family Guy (Something, Something, Something, Dark Side) which I purchased yesterday. The standard DVD also comes with a digital copy on the DVD which, when inserted into the drive brings up a choice of transferring the file to my computer to be copied over to my Desire as either a iTunes file or a Windows Media Video (WMV).Ideally I want to avoid the iTunes route as currently I have no use for that program on my system so I would like to be able to use the WMV version. When I copied the file to my Desire, it didn't play and the phone didn't seem to recognise it. Can anyone please give me advice on how to play a WMV on my Desire?

It is actually 31.7gb according to my laptop. when i put it in my desire, it will not see it, or just tells me that the sd card needs formatting, then won't format it. Is this because the card is too slow,or is it an OS problem,that will be resolved when Froyo is released?
View 14 Replies View RelatedThought I was clever enough to try to root my Desire but fell at the very first hurdle and now seem to have some problems. I tried to format the sd card after backing up my apps (not everything else). Wasn't sure at first if this worked which I still have my doubts. However I did lose all my video and photos which I am not overly bothered about but have lost several important apps and now when I try to download them again from market the download just stops unacceptably and nothing happens. Can't get barcode scanner and many others despite leaving it downloading overnight.

The dialogue box that appears when I do this shows the date in MM-DD-YYYY format. I've checked all the settings that I can find, and I'm sure they're all set to UK/British. View 2 Replies View RelatedI got my HTC Desire today, and despite spending many hours carefully updating my Google contacts, I've found that received calls and SMS messages are not displayed with the contact they're from. I believe this is because the details in my contacts list are in the format "01234 567789", whereas the incoming calls/messages are in the format "+441234 567789", and it's not realizing that the "+44" and "0" are interchangable. How can I resolve this, without going through all my contacts changing the prefix on the phone number?

Today, I had the joy to stumble upon one of the numerous Android wonders: LauncherPro. I have played around with it a bit and must admit that a vast array of possibilities has opened to me.
This got me thinking - my girlfriend is an Arts student and can undoubtedly pull out some pretty fancy things on Adobe Illustrator or whatever absurdly overpriced and complex devices and programs they use in this branch. She could design my own little icons
So, could anyone please be kind enough to enlighten me on the format & size of:Normal application icons
Dock icons (slightly smaller I'd assume) HTC Desire Wallpapers And whatever else there is that I can't think of...
e.g. "Well, my dear Lmkt, regular icons are usually 58*74 pixels and should be in jpg or png format."
I have a particular problem with the Desire in the format of the delivery report for the messages. It only says 'received', or sometimes 'pending'. I have done some tests, and the pending status does not change when it's actually delivered, and sometimes it will say 'received' when the phone the message is being sent to is switched off.
I used this function (on my trusty old Sony C905) to send messages to phones when they were off, the delivery report would come in with the date and time that the phone was switched on and the message delivered.
Is there an app that I can download to do better management of message tracking? Hopefully the same app that will let me see arabic characters as mentioned in my other query.
I've taken a few vids on my Desire, but the 3gp format is pretty limited and what I'd like to do is play it back on my PS3.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations about what software to use and what format to convert the 3gp file to in order for same size same quality playback on PS3?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have tried to transfer an mp4 (Terminator salvation) from a laptop to my phone and when I play it, I get the 'cannot play video' message.I thought that I may have done something wrong when transferring so today I also tested it via Bluetooth with a friend who also has the desire but on o2 (I am with Orange). I turned on the ftp server and it took the file via, went to 100% completing the BT transfer but again, when I try and play it I get the exact same message. This file was also mp4. This file works on his Desire (it is a 26 minute cartoon called the Boondocks) but not mine. I cannot understand the inconsistency as you would think that the same would apply to both mine and his.My last phone was a n95 and I am not someone who regularly takes an interest in new gadgets coming out, making this big jump (only ever used Nokia's and Ericson's before the desire). However, I have had a new phone (always top of the range through upgrade) every 12/18 months since 2001 so I am very much used to adjusting to new phones, albeit not the 'smartphone' generation. So I am not a technophobe but nor am I a tech geek. But I cannot for the life of me work this one out.

But it does not seem to find all the videos (mp4) in my sd card. Any suggestions I will be grateful. I dont mind paying a small fee if this gets me some thing good.
