HTC Desire :: I've Been Trying For Hours To Partition A New SD Card

Nov 23, 2010

I'm having issues with sticking a new SD card in my Rooted Desire. I am running the NeoPhyTe Mod v1.8 Sense-FroYo 2.2 ROM, and it seems great (before I was running Pays Desire Rom which had the same problem, so it's not the ROM).My old 4gb card was partitioned with 512mb for Apps to SD (I can't even remember how I did this now, but I seem to recall it being really easy, I think I used ROM Manager), and worked flawlessly. The new card can be seen in Windows 7 when I go into recovery on the phone and select mount USB Storage, and I seem to be able to get into it to format the card, but when I reboot, the phone hangs at the HTC screen. There is nothing on the card apart from the ROM I installed.I've tried partitioning it in Recovery with ADB/Clockwork, but Parted will not load/work. I've tried...well, everything I could find over the last 4 hours to try to sort this out. It should be a simple task, surely!?

HTC Desire :: SD Card With Rooted - Install Rom Partition

Nov 10, 2010

my Desire is rooted with T-Mod, but i'm looking to update from the standard 2GB(i know right?) to the biggest I can possibly find. The only thing is I'm worried about the fact that this card has been partitioned when I rooted it, am I going to have to start from scratch and re-root? Or do I just partition the new one, install the ROM on the partition (? I don't really know what I'm talking about with this), and then transfer everything over once that's done?

I was looking at classes.. I've seen class 10 SD cards but can only seem to find up to class 6 in 16GB microSD and up to class 4 in 32GB microSD... I don't think i'll need 32GB, I was only getting it because I might decide to, I don't know, listen to my entire music collection without coming home in between? I guess I was just getting 32gb because I'm kind of into "Do it once, do it right." But if it's going to slow my phone down I'll just go for a 16gb...

Is this because the card is too slow,or is it an OS problem, that will be resolved when Froyo is released?

General :: Correct Format / Partition Layout For USB To Auto Mount?

Apr 25, 2014

I've got a 3TB external drive drive hooked up to my Ouya running CM11 (Android 4.4)

I run Nzbget and Transmission in optware, and use CM primarily as a vehicle for XBMC so I need the space.

I had it in 2 ext4 partitions which needed a init script to mount under the stock OS.

I was hopping to get it working in a less hacky manner under CM.

I tried with the two parts, and no go so i redid it with one big partition with root as the UID and sdcard_rw as the GID.

Still no dice. I can access it in File Manager with elevated permissions, but no go in XBMC or other apps.

Also tried one big exFAT partioning with no luck.

I plugged in an 8g ntfs drive I had and it automounted it no problem.

What is the right way to configure the drive? We're a Linux household so sticking with ext2/3/4 would be ideal. NTFS I would like to avoid.

General :: Changing Ext4 Partition To Swap Without Having To Format Entire SDCard?

Apr 27, 2013

One of devs from my device had told us that he'll move system and data images from sdcard to SD ext, but actually he left before doing this so now I'm stuck with useless 5gb ext4 partition on my scard. I'd format it and then change partitions if my sdcard wouldn't be filled with over 20GB of various files. Is it possible to change the size of the second partition to about 500 MB and turn it from ext4 to swap without formatting entire sdcard?

HTC Desire :: Flashing Rom And A2sd

Nov 4, 2010

I am roooted and currently running CM6.1, loving the speed and the extra battery life. I now however want to get my apps to run on my SD card, I am think of using darktremor to do the job but wonder if someone could help with some questions.

Will the partitioning of the card and formatting it wipe the Goldcard section of the SD card?

Do I need to put all the stuff I take off the SD card back onto it, I want the music and photos back on but there is a lot of stuff hung over from when I installed every app on the market?

Reading through everything I can find it seems like a 512mb partition seems about right, I believe there is a swap and cache part involved, any ideas on what to make these?

HTC Desire :: A2sd - Or Ability To Send MMS

Nov 2, 2010

Currently on my Desire I'm using LeeDroid 2.2d, which is very nice. Partitioned my SD card for a2sd+ so I've got over 100mb free of internal memory, and can install as many apps as I want, which is great. The caveat - I can't send people pictures, and their pictures won't come through either, though I don't have this issue with people who have iPhones. Other people with Desires cannot MMS me and I cannot MMS them back, nor can my wife with her Samsung Slyde (we're with Telus in Canada). Basically on either end we get a message that says "Generic network failure" whenever an MMS attempts to download. It repeats this message over and over for a few hours, which is extremely annoying, especially when I'm the recipient.

I assume, as it did with my stock Telus 2.1 before I rooted, that MMS will work fine if I use the very-recently-released Froyo from Telus. I know that to some degree I will be able to move apps to SD with this, but not to the extent that a2sd+ does, where using a 512mb partition on your SD card to imitate phone memory, it saves an enormous amount of precious internal space.

What would you do? Is there a way to get a2sd+ for this new Telus? Or even better, is there a way to make MMS work properly under LeeDroid?

I tested by installing google earth (20meg) and it seems like it does take space from the a2sd partition but also reduces my internal memory space as well. What or why does it do this? I only have about 110 megabytes left.

HTC Eris :: FYI For Those Switching From A2sd Roms To Non A2sd Roms

May 11, 2010

Just a little heads up out there for people like me who flash roms ten times a day. If you haven't already experienced this issue, you are likely to come across it in the future.

It is probably a good idea to make a backup of the contents of your sd card to keep when flashing from an a2sd enable rom to a non a2sd enabled rom. If your partitioned for a2sd and flash a non a2sd rom it will hold you phone at the boot screen or send you into an endless boot cycle.

I had to take everything off my sd card, re format the card, then flash the rom before I could load everthing back onto the card.

I may be a total noob, and for all you smart people this is probably a no brainer. But if I can keep anyone else from having this headache I thought it best to post it.

HTC Eris :: How To Partition SD Card

Jul 23, 2010

This is for everyone who gets the "Insufficient space available" message when trying to install an app on a ROM with Apps2SD support. You need to partition your SD card! Here are steps on how to partition your SD card.

1. BACKUP your SD card! Partitioning will erase everything on your SD card. Mount your Eris to your computer and copy everything on your SD card into a separate folder on your computer.
2. Boot into recovery. (Hold the Volume up and Power button at the same time)
3. When you are in recovery, choose Partition sdcard.
4. Select Partition SD
5. Choose your swap size. (I chose 32MB)
6. Select the size of your partition. (I chose 512MB)
7. After partitioning, choose SD:ext2 to ext3 from the Partition sdcard menu.
8. Reboot your phone.
9. Make sure you have Apps2SD checked under Settings > Applications. (You don't have to do this with some ROMs)
10. To check if you have partitioned your SD card correctly, go to Settings > SD card & phone storage > SD card secondary. (Some ROMs don't show this)
11. Copy your backup of your SD card back to your SD card.
12. You can now run Apps2SD in any ROM that supports it.

When flashing ROMs with Apps2SD support, you no longer have to reinstall your apps.

HTC Eris :: Partition Sd Card Back To 0

Sep 9, 2010

Want to preface this by saying I just had a HUGE thread ready to go with detailed step by step of what I did and it just got deleted while I was hitting submit somehow. After wasting many hours this evening, I'll start over, again. So I wanted to Partition my SD card back to 0, 0 so I could flash KF V32. I backed up my SD to my laptop, wiped Partition, changed to double zero and moved everything back over. I factory/davelk wipe and after about an hour, I finally am ready to flash V32. I go to flash from my SD card and it says "F: File is Empty". I quickly realized what I had done wrong. I dragged the entire folder I created from my laptop onto my SD instead of dragging individually. Rookie mistake. Another hour passes and I'm so ready to flash my 1st Froyo ROM and 2nd ROM ever. I select KF V32 from my SD, click trackball to confirm and "File is Bad" pops up 2 seconds later. I decide to restore my newest Nand that I had made last night because I knew I'd be flashing this evening. I select it, its runs and I reboot. 20 minutes later, xtrCUSTOM pops up on the home screen and I realize that this is the stock xtrSENSE 4.0.6.1, not the Nand I restored. I immediately D/L'd Astro to see what was on my SD card and EVERYTHING was there. My nands, D/L's, settings, etc. My Titanium Backup I just D/L'd last night in preparitions for flashing V32 was there. My question to all the brilliant minds around this forum. WTF happened here? Did I do something wrong?

General :: Create New Partition On SD Card

Nov 6, 2012

I am having some issues with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab SCH-i800. So the first issue is i tried to install a stock ROM to fix a corrupted cache partition. Now it tries to boot US Cellular. As of this moment the error i get when i put the device in recovery mode goes as follows:

E:failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
# MANUAL MODE #
E:failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/recovery_kernel_log
[code]....

I am wondering if i can just create a new partition on a new SD card? i bought this device on ebay a couple weeks ago and i don't want to continue attempting sketchy leads for fear of hard bricking it. I am very good with performing commands via command prompt if that is necessary, also i have access to an Ubuntu 12.4 computer if that would make things easier? Also as far as i know this is equipped with android Froyo and the issue developed after the previous user attempted to update.
