Android :: Watching Videos / TV (Not Enough Memory To Display Flash Content)

May 15, 2010

I am a bit of a novice but have managed to work a lot of things out about my HTC desire through this website but I am struggling with playing online TV and videos as well as downloading films onto my phone. Firstly I am a fan of channel 4 on demand and I tried to watch something a box comes up which says- 'shockwave flash- there is not enough free memory to display this flash content' -

Does this simply mean that I need a bigger micro SD card as I have only got the 4GB one enclosed with the phone, if it is as simple as that then could get an 8 or 16 GB microcard? Next problem is watching online films (for example from blinkbox.com), I can watch these on my laptop but my phone wont play them- do I have to install a special player to get these to work?

And finally I am right in thinking there is not an app like the iphone in which you can click and buy movies on the HTC desire? If not how do I download movies onto my phone or maybe download them on my laptop and transfer them to my phone?

HTC Incredible :: Watching Downloaded Videos On Android

Apr 30, 2010

So i have the Droid Incredible.I also have a 16gig class 6 MicroSDHC.I have movies at home. Avi's, mp4, mkv, etc.I created a "videos" folder on the root of my 16gig and place different types of video files there.I know the incredible can't view avi's, but it should be able to view MP4 as is, correct? Mine won't read them. I need to convert them with an app (forgot the name) and convert them to 3gp. They videos always end up so crappy and pixelated.

Samsung Vibrant :: Watching Your Recorded Videos On Your PS3

Jul 20, 2010

Yamb is a program I've been using to be able to change the .mov container of videos to .mp4. Basically, what I use it for is to download movie trailers off the iTunes store, and make them compatible to watch through my PS3 (or Xbox 360) on my 50" HDTV and my surround sound system. You can convert 720p or 1080p trailers to watch on your HDTV with absolutely no loss of video quality or audio quality. Not to mention the conversion process usually lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds. Now, what do movie trailers have to do with my Samsung Vibrant 720p videos I recorded you may ask?Well, this same program makes your .3gp videos (the format the Vibrant records in) compatible to watch on your TV, via your PS3 or Xbox 360.

Sprint : Hero Does Better Than EVO / Watching YouTube Videos At Least

Jun 10, 2010

So here is the story. I'm at my local Sprint store fondling the new EVO and contemplating when I get an upgrade and maybe I should get one or should I wait or.Anyway, the phone was fully functional and on 3G, so I thought I would check out YouTube. I brought it up and searched out a video I had watched before and cued it up. When it played, and for whatever reason, it had super resolution and looked great, but it would not play more than a few seconds without stopping then starting, stopping and starting again, etc. I thought this was pretty weird, so holding the EVO in my other hand, I pulled out my Hero and cued up the same exact YouTube video. When the vid played on the Hero the video guality and resolution were not as good as the EVO's, but it played perfectly and seamlessly all the way through, no starting and stopping at all.

Sep 9, 2012

Anyway, when i am trying to watch a movie in my adroid device (Xperia Sola), sometimes it directly opens it with flash player withing the browser (Btw i am using stock) and sometimes it wants me to open with some apps, like Movies, Quickpic and MX Player. Since i am able to play that video with flash player in my computer, i want that video to be played by flash player, not by some apps.

Actually MX Player is better in watching movies, but sometimes it cant grab the movie, but flash player makes no problem like that.

I unchecked "Play HTTP Links" in MX Player, but there is no such option in stock Movies app and Quickpic.

Android : How To Display HTML Content?

Jan 23, 2009

I am working on an app where I would like to display HTML data to the user. The HTML includes CSS stylesheets and images (JPG and PNG), but no javascript and definitely no network access. The data is being read from a ZIP file on the sdcard. I initially assumed I could create a WebView and use that to display my HTML, but there seems to be no way to also pass in the style and image resources. Some posts I saw suggested creating a ContentProvider, but this has a few problems for me: a) security: I want to keep all the data inside this app. There's no need for a ContentProvider if I don't want other apps using the content, right? b) files: The ContentProvider's openFile() method returns a ParcelFileDescriptor, which can only be created from a Socket or a File. I have neither, I have an InputStream. So it seems there's no way to return the image and style data from a ContentProvider anyway.

Android :: Browser Application To Open And Display Content From Menu

Jul 13, 2009

Here's what I'm attempting to do. I have a menu and when a user selects a particular option in the menu I want the browser application to open and display the web page. However, I cannot seem to do this. My application uses a TabWidget to display its content (which works perefectly) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to open a link into the browser. I have tried adding a WebView to the TabWidget (but when I request it from the view by findViewById(...) I get a null.

I've also tried creating a separate view and performing a setContentView(...) and then I get an exception. I've also tried using an intent I've seen demonstrated on this group. It seems like this should be fairly easy, but I must be missing anything. I've looked at the sample apps as well as the Apps-for- android samples and have followed them to the T, yet still to no avail I cannot get the browser to open (or anything like that).

Samsung Captivate :: Watching Videos On My Captivate

Nov 22, 2010

I just got my Samsung Captivate at my local AT&T store on November 20th. Everything has been pretty good with it except trying to watch videos. It doesn't matter what site I'm trying to watch videos from, youtube or any other, my Captivate doesn't seem to be able to download the video fast enough. It will play for 15 seconds or so until it reaches the end of what it has downloaded at the time, then freezes and will wait until it downloads the full video before starting up again. It's done this even when I had a 3G signal. It can take several minutes for it to download a 2 minute video. I've had it right beside my friend's iPhone, downloading at the same time, same video and he has no problem. A Samsung tech told me to try and watch the video in Wi-fi. That's great and all, but I shouldn't have to. Everything else has been good on the fun but trying to watch videos (which I like doing). Are their any settings I could change that may fix this problem? I deleted all my apps and it still does the same.

Android :: Returning A Memory Mapped InputStream From A Content Provider?

Oct 9, 2009

The the client side of a content provider consumer I can do something like this, to get a proper InputStream for reading the picture: InputStream is = getContentResolver().openInputStream(pictureUri);

It is a nice API, and will on the server side, the actual content provider result in a call to:

CODE:.......

But what if the picture mapped to the URI is not to be found on the filesystem, but as a memory resource, or generated on the fly.

Can I create a memory mapped File or InputStream, or anything else, so that I am not required to save a temporary file to disk, just to be able to return it to my content provider consumer?

Android :: Pause Flash Content In WebView When Activity Isn't Visible?

Aug 7, 2010

I am experimenting with using a WebView to display Flash content inside my activity. Everything is working pretty well, but when the user hits the home key to put the activity into the background, the Flash content keeps running (sound keeps playing, etc)

I have noticed that both the stock Android browser and Dolphin Browser seem to avoid this problem, and properly pause the Flash content when the browsing activity is put into the background.

Ideally I would like a solution that kills the WebView completely if the activity is finishing, but pauses it otherwise (basically copying the default behavior of the browser)

Here is a simple test I put together that loads a game on Kongregate which has some background music:

CODE:..............

I took a look at the latest source for the stock browser, and it seems to be doing something similar (calling pauseTimers/resumeTimers), although I fear the code I have been looking at is out of date, because it is calling functions that don't seem to exist anymore.

I did verify that the call to pauseTimers is working by testing with a simple JavaScript setInterval which updates a counter. Is there something else obvious that I should be trying in regard to Window or View management?

The documentation for the mobile Flash player says:

Flash Player will also automatically pause SWF playback it is not in view or the foreground application, for example when a call is received or alarm goes off, to reduce CPU utilization, battery usage and memory usage.

This seems to be working perfectly in both the stock browser and Dolphin Browser, but not in my app. Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Update: Here is the function we ended up adding to our activity to get this to work. We call it with "onPause" in the activity's onPause function and "onResume" in the activity's onResume function:

CODE:....................
