Android :: Phone Choice - Get Multi-Touch Capabilities

Jul 18, 2010

So I'm in the process of needing a new phone, I've went through three blackberries and I am honestly tired of them, the only benefit is BBM and I can live without it...

Questions :

1. If I get the X10, since it it currently running 1.6, if I root and upgrade to 2.1...

Do I get Multi-Touch capabilities? Will it run smoother and more efficently?

2. Should I just wait for Sony to release their proprietary stuff and hope they do well?

3. Is the X10 really worth it? I'm between it and an Iphone right now, not much else of an option for a full touch on the Rogers network here in Canada for the phone selection that I have. You can see all the phones I am able to get here. (By this I mean these are literally the phones I can pick from, I get them as free upgrades)

Android :: Testing GPS Based Applications - Phone Choice

May 11, 2009

I'd like some feedback from your experiences on the best option to test GPS based applications. I've been developing apps and in the middle of this will have to ship out to Afghanistan for a 1 year tour. Perfect opportunity to concentrate on the apps in the down-time (nothing to do stuck on a base most of the time in a 10x15 shippping container). This is bad (with bad being a relative term) from the standpoint that there are no "data" plans in Afghanistan for GSM phones. I can get GSM service but no "data" plans. If i buy a Android OS phone I'm concerned about how I can update it with new firmware and load apps. I will have wifi access, but from what I've read this will not enable a "push" of the new firmware update to the phone as if I was with T-Mobile. Any suggestions on what phone i should buy and how to "test' my applications where I can update my firmware and load my apps onto the phone?

HTC Aria :: How To Have Phone Keypad Default During Phone Calls?

Aug 10, 2010

When I make phone calls, the default screen is the large Droid with the Mute, Speaker and other buttons. I always end up having to press the Keypad button to get the phone keypad to display (checking voicemail or skipping voicemail greetings)Is there anyway to have the keypad be the default screen during phone calls? It seems like the keypad is used much more than Speaker or Mute.

HTC Aria :: How Do I Access The Phone Memory (not SD)?

Aug 4, 2010

My phone is notifying me that it is low on memory, which I assume to mean a portion of the memory that is independent from the SD card, because that has 1.75GB free. I would like to remove some of this data (it's probably because of my 500 pictures), but the only place I can think of to delete the pictures won't let me access them BECAUSE I have low memory. I've searched through the settings application, but can't find anything for manual handling of data.I'm pretty comfortable with technology, but this is ridiculous. Even my old Samsung picture phone had data managing tools. I hope I'm just not looking in the right place.I've got it plugged in to my PC via USB right now, but the folders aren't named very conveniently. I have no idea what is phone memory?

So I think by mounting the phone via USB, I am ONLY accessing the phone memory. In that case, I need to access the SD card, so I can move some of this stuff over. I'm very confused though, because when I open the drive in My Computer it shows it as being a nearly empty 1.84 GB drive, which the phone memory should not (as far as I know) have, especially if it's full. This leads me to believe that it is in fact the SD card, but AGH.

HTC Aria :: Best Email Program To Use On Phone?

Jul 17, 2010

What is the best email program to use on the Aria?

I have K-9 Mail, but I'm using that with my work address

What would be the best for yahoo & hotmail? I'd like to have it push the emails instantly, but I'm okay with it being like a 5-10 minute delay. I noticed that when I set my yahoo address up on their given email program, it doesn't always show the HTML pictures in the message so I don't always get the email the way I'd like it to. Some come up, others don't, its weird.

So I was just wondering what the best email program would be to use to get what I want?

HTC Aria :: Phone Fell Down And Screen Shattered

Nov 17, 2010

All I can say is damn, My phone fell out of my pocket today and the screen shattered. Luckily I bought it at bestbuy and bought the warranty on it. So I took it in and gave it to them. They gave me some shitty replacement phone and mailed mine off. I have to wait 3 weeks to get my phone back! I haven't had my but only 1 week and 3 days. I love my Aria but damn is it fragile. I do have one one question, I have always wanted a Nexus One is that phone better than the aria and is there any way to put HTC sense on it? If so to both then I will probably buy one unlocked.

HTC Aria :: Comparable Phone At&T Replace Moto Droid?

Oct 21, 2010

Some of you may remember when I posted about my cell phone contract being sold to AT&T from Verizon. Well, I am very close now to getting a new "comparable" phone from AT&T to replace my Moto Droid. The new phone that they will most likely be sending me is the HTC Aria. Anybody have any thoughts about this phone? Is it a good phone? Is it comparable to the Moto Droid? To be honest, I plan on switching back to Verizon after all this mess anyway. I am just curious (in the rare event that I might be stuck with the phone) as to whether or not this is a good replacement (even though nothing can replace my droid .... I love it so much).

HTC Aria :: Way To Program My Phone For Area Code Recognition

Is there some way to program my phone so it knows my local area code? Reason I ask is that I never entered area codes for many the contacts on my old phone, which are all on my SIM card, because I could enter my area code into memory.I just got my Aria, and when I get a call from a contact within my area code, their contact name, which is saved on the SIM card, does not come up. Instead, their entire number, with area code comes up. Do I need to go in and input the area code for all of my contacts that have the same area code as me???

It would be much more convenient to be able to do that. Does anyone know if it is safe or unsafe?
