Google Maps Group Geotagging With Photo
Mar 12, 2014
I would like to create an Android App that allows people to geotag a public map with a note and an image, and maybe a few other fields. I have never made an Android App before but found this great tutorial:
Writing a Real Android App from Scratch Tutorial Series - Part 1 | ashokgelal.com
Which is basically EXACTLY what I need, except seems to be limited to just that user's map. I would like to make a single map that is publicly taggable by anyone. It will be limited to a specific city (if that really matters).

I just got GV today and I'm trying to set up the customized voicemail greeting to certain groups and not having any luck. I made the greeting, it plays properly in the GV settings in a browser but when I test it from a phone in that group it stays as the default "The Google Voice subscriber you are trying to reach is unavailable..."

I'm using the latest version of Google Maps on JB 4.2.2 [Nexus 4]..I noticed that I cannot edit the names of my locations in "My Places" in the phone app. So I used Google Bookmarks (google.com/bookmarks) from my PC to edit/rename My Places. However, the names do not sync or carry through to the Google Maps app on the phone. The names in the app are still the generic names, coordinates or street names.
Is there any way to change the names of My Places and get them to sync with the phone app? Really baffling!

I have an X10 Mini Pro that I want to take on holiday with me for the geotagging function, however, I'm not exactly sure how to use it. Is there some way of knowing if, when I take a photo, it'll actually geotag? Sometimes when I take pictures, I see the icon when I open the camera that says geotagging is on, but then when I look at the photo (either on my computer, or on an app called 'Been There'), it has no tags, which I assume is because the GPS/wifi hadn't located me yet. Also, does the GPS use any mobile data? My plan only has data usage for my country, so I don't want to accidentally pay too much!

Using Cyanogen 6 (heavily modified 2.2 Froyo), HTC Desire Z/T-Mobile G2. I was wondering if there's a way to disable geotagging in Camera360. No matter what picture I take, it still sticks the GPS information into the picture. The stock Camera app actually doesn't do this.
I know within Camera360, when you're taking a picture, you click on the little gear on the upper right (if viewed landscape), go to Preferences, and uncheck Record GPS location. The thing is, for me Record GPS location is already unchecked, but if I take a picture, it STILL stores the GPS location/geotag.
Is there some sort of setting in Froyo that's overriding this or am I doing something incorrectly in Camera360?
All right, from what I can tell, if you SPECIFICALLY go to the Preferences, make sure the Record GPS location option is unchecked, then hit the back button, it won't save the geotag FOR THAT PICTURE. But if you go straight into the Camera360 app and take a picture without messing with the settings, it'll try to save a geotag. Granted, the geotag that's saved for me contains bogus coordinates that makes stuff like Google Earth choke on them, but I still find it incredibly annoying to have to do this for EVERY picture I take.
Is there any way to make this a permanent default setting for all my pictures?

Is Google Latitude available in the UK or not, because it doesn't seem to be working for me? I have received the RC9 update for G1 and have Google Maps 3.0. Is there an a Google Latitude application that I should have or do I access everything through Google Maps? When I go the www.google.com/latitude on my G1, it offers me the option of "launching" Latitude but it just takes me to Google Maps. From there, I cannot see the locations of my Google "friends" (who have agreed to show location), neither does my own location show up on the Latitude homepage on the web (I have settings turned to "detect my location automatically").

Just made the jump from the Pre to the Moment and so far so good - a couple of things to get used to but I am sure I will.. I have only tested this indoors so excuse me but does anyone know if GeoTagging works well with the moment out of the box? This is big thing for me - why I am not really sure - but it is.

I have them filtered on the Handset so that only those marked as Friends or Family under Gmail contacts are shown. I can't help this as otherwise I'd have well over 1000 contacts to scroll through on my phone.
My issue is that should I add a contact on my phone it doesn't appear. This is obviously because when it's created it has no group membership. It still resolves against SMS etc but is not displayed in the Contacts list. I can (when near a computer) quickly jump onto gmail, manage contacts and put the person into the right group but ideally I'd like to be able to do this on the handset.
Is there any way at all of editing Google Contact Group membership on the handset? I certainly can't find the option if it exists. Alternatively is it possible to change it so when the contact is create on the handset that it automatically saves as a 'Friend'.

Is there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section? If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed.

Is anyone else noticing that the three "built-in" groups in Google Voice: Friends, Family and Coworkers are NOT synced? These are my three biggest groups. I'm sure I could create duplicate groups, but that seems silly. Can anyone confirm the same behavior and/or suggest something to get these groups syncing properly?

If I take a photo and email it to myself or copy it over USB, then upload it to Picasa via the PC, the latitude + longitude show up just fine. But if I instead upload it directly to Picasa from the Media Gallery app, the GPS coordinates are inexplicably removed. The files are otherwise identical, same file size, same resolution.

Is there a way i can group all my contacts to my Google account that are saved to phone. I start saving them to phone instead of Google when giving the option, thinking i could just sync whenever i upgraded ROMS. I was wrong i lost some contacts, restoring older ROMS. So for future references I will save to google, I just want to know if the current contacts now can be saved to Google grouped or i have to go in and do them individually.

I want to geotag any photos I take with my Xperia X10 and have the phone set up to do that. When I display the photos on my phone and examine the jpg information. I see the Filename, date and data for Latitude and Longitude. However, the Longitude data is always misreported (showing 1 degree and 53 minutes greater than true). When I transfer the photos to my PC and examine EXIF meta data using PhotoME (and other similar software) the correct Longitude is reported. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I have emailed Sony but don't expect to hear from them until the next millennium.

I'm still new to Android in general, so maybe I don't know something. I like to option of automatic sync of my photos to G+. However, when it comes to accessing those photos from my PC, it's rather inconvenient. The web interface is, to my feeling, rather lacking.
Is there a way to access the photos as if they were in a regular folder? Mostly, I want to be able to select a number of pictures and move them. To do this, right now I have to mouse-select them one by one, then download a weird zip archive, then select them one by one again and delete them from G+. Is there a way to do this faster and easier? If not, is there a way to sync them as they are now, but to Google Drive instead of G+?

I am using a Sony Xperia Z1 phone running Android 4.3, and a Nexus 7 tablet running 4.4.1. Having no success at syncing photos between the two devices using Google Photo App which is part of Google + on both devices. All my photos taken on both devices are unploaded to google drive and google plus.
When I delete or edit photos, the changes sometimes show up on other device and sometimes they don't. When I create albums, sometimes I can view on the other device, and sometimes I can't. Auto awesome videos often don't show up on the other device too.
It's just a huge mess and thinking of deleting google plus entirely and just using third party photo management app. How to get google plus photos to sync seamlessly.

I also not able to find the actual file for those photos.
May I know how to download those photos as actual files??

Yesterday I took a picture and wanted to send it to my brother. I wanted to send him a URL to an uploaded file so I could then share that URL with others in the future. I did not want to email a picture because, frankly, it's not as easy as pasting a URL in a GTalk window.
I spent about 10 minutes thinking of all the ways I could do this using Google services and couldn't find any way to do it on my phone. Here are the options I considered:
Option 1) Upload to Google Plus - but viewing the photo in G+ app doesn't provide a public link. SHaring option only presents your standard email, mms, etc. options. Option 2) Upload to Picasa - but I get the same sharing options as G+ - no option to grab a link. Option 3) Google Drive. This was the last option, but of course it only presents the same options as before. Now, I can create a public link when I'm at a computer, but not on my Android device.
So I ended up having to upload via the imgur app and just sending that link. I'm okay with that for now, but I'm already uploading to G+ automatically; why can't I just get a public url through the app?
That whole process was very disappointing. I wish Google would give us some way, any way, to share a file via URL through a Google App - specifically, Drive.
