General :: Code To Force Microphone On?
Jul 28, 2012
Is there a way in code to force the device microphone on when it's been disabled by plugging in headphones? I want to be able to record audio from the devices microphone and also playback audio through the headset. Unfortunately many devices disable the microphone when something is plugged into the devices headphone jack.
I tried using the AudioManager.setMicrophoneMute(false) but that didn't work.

I have an app with Admob ads on it but I find that when I use it the ad almost never refreshes because I don't change activities, instead I just update a text view when buttons are pressed. I have tried searching this on Google but keep comming up short.
I would like to tell the app to refresh the add occasionally, such as after two button clicks or something like that. Does anyone know how to do this and potentially have some sample code for it?

I'm very new to Android so I've been working primarily with information from the android developer's page. Everything was going great until I added the code from the alert dialog section. The code they give alone gives me an error when I try to run it on the last line, saying I must initialize dialog, but I feel like I'm getting the NullPointerException no matter what the case is.If I don't instantiate "dialog" to "null" at the beginning, I cannot run the program. I'm not even trying to do anything crazy yet, any help would be great because I'm having alot of trouble trying to figure out what exactly this code is trying to do.

How many times have you asked users to send you the logcat result to track down a nasty force-close?How many users have actually replied? It's not that users are lazy or busy.Having to run the "logcat" command or download an external log collector app just means too much trouble for them.It should be much simpler. It should be just one tap.In fact I'm surprised (or being ignorant) that an easier error reporting mechanism has not existed yet in the Android API, especially for the infamous force-close. That is why I coded and open-sourced "Android, send me logs!", a small code library that makes it easy to detect force-close and send logs from within your own apps. You can program it to report errors with just one tap, and also include your own tracing information.

After having solved every of my previous issues to get the code running for retrieving videos from the sdcard and displaying them in the GridView, I still cannot see the videos. I don't know what I have done wrong that they won't show and the array isn't passed on.
This is the java file that tries to retrieve and display the videos from the sdcard in the GridView:

I have a android 4.0 tablet. A friend did something and now when I expect the keyboard to pop up, it wants me to speak. Holy Star Trek, cap'n. Maybe I should ask how to build transparent aluminum for my little fishies. I can't find any way to get this keyboard back. Did a Factory data reset, same thing.

First problem is , Video recording has much noise , I think its due to high microphone sensivity. Is there any way to calibrate o change its level?
Second problem is , Speker volume in Jelly bean is too low and it causes some problem for ringign and allarm. is there any way to change its level?
I read in some threads that there are some CSV files located at /system/etc that we can change microhpone and speaker level. but I cant find in JB.and another configuration file named asound.conf that we can specify sound level in dB , but i'm afraid that it cause high voltage , and high current subsequently and cause speaker be corrupted..

There are some external stereo microphones for IOS that plug into the headphone jack rather than the dock connector. For instance, the IK Multimedia iRig MIC Cast.
They claim that they work on Android as well.
Well, they may work, but do they provide better sound quality than the internal phone microphone, turning it into a decent digital recorder for music, for example? (with the right software, of course).
My question isn't really whether those microphones are better quality than the internal microphones, as I assume they are. But does the headphone jack on Android phones (mine is the Galaxy S4) really provide the input capability for better quality sound, including in stereo?
Of course that jack can transfer sound in both directions, headset and microphone, as it is a phone. For output, the phone provides quality stereo music output to headphones, as modern phones are also music players. However, the microphones on phone stereo headsets are generally low quality monaural microphones only suitable for phone calls, usually not better than the internal microphone, might be worse.
So the question is--is the input function of that jack capable of providing quality stereo input, if one has a quality stereo microphone attached? (No matter how good quality the microphone is, if that jack really cannot transmit that quality sound, but reduces it to a very low resolution and frequency-reduced monaural sound, no point at all in attaching such a microphone.
input capabilities of the headphone jacks on Android phones. (If it varies from phone to phone, then how about mine, the Galaxy S4?)

Any way to use an android phone as a microphone? As in, a way that actually works on a 64-bit version of Windows? I've tried a bunch of things that seem a bit dated, like DroidCam, nothing wants to work.

But my microphone for the HTC One SV doesn't work outside phone calls or the default voice recording program. Other programs like Skype or TinyChat don't seem to be picking up the microphone, I can receive sound from others just fine. But they can't hear me for some reason.

Is there a way to increase the clarity and volume of voice during calls?
Pantech Burst with stock firmware ICS. Will installing CM10 fix it?
Using a MP3 voice recording app, it isn't bad. But during calls, the voice that's transferred over is terrible quality, static-y, and half the volume of a normal phone recording.

I have smartphone Lenovo P770 with Android 4.1 in it. It runs on official chinese ROM remade by Etotalk.com.Everything was working fine, but few days ago, internal memory was full, so I moved some downloaded apps (games) from internal storage to SD card. The day after this microphone got somehow broken - when I call someone, they can't hear me (they actually do, but very very poorly(= very quietly)). When I switch to handsfree, they hear me OK. Also, I'm using Bluetooth headset very often and people can hear me good. Only when I call normally, people can't hear anything.
This is weird, because all moved apps were downloaded, none was built-in. Also, when I record a video, sound is without a problem.
I tried cleaning the microphone turning volume of microphone up/down moving all apps back to internal storage factory reset none of this worked.

I got a pair of LG HBS-730 to input voice commands to my SG-N7100, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm on a stock CM10.1 and grab the input from Autovoice (a nifty Tasker plugin).
Depending on whether I activate Phone, Media or both in the Bluetooth settings of the headset, the input is either solely grabbed from the phone's microphone or is ignored.
I tried BTMono, BT Launch and a few other apps, but it seems to be Android related. [URL] ....
I also tried disabling/renaming VoiceDialer.apk, but it only works with the headset button presses not with the microphone issue.
I'll try anything at this point (including dabbling with Java and Android Intents).

I've tested two Voice to SMS Apps (Text By Voice, and Voice Text). The latter uses Google Voice Search for speech recognition. When I have a hands free bluetooth kit in my car connected, both apps listen through the microphone in the phone, not the hands free mic. This leads me to believe this may be an O/S limitation with Android 4.1.1 (I'm running on a Samsung S3). Can confirm that only the Phone app can use the hands free mic. Otherwise, it seems very odd/coincidental BOTH of these apps fail to use the hands free mic like the Phone app does.

I'm writing an app part of whose functionality is to record audio through the microphone. The recording seems to stop as soon as the screen times out and the phone enters what I think is sleep mode. I've noticed that some apps(Tokasiki's Voice Recorder, for one) don't seem to have this problem on this phone(Motorola Atrix) and continue to record audio long after the screen has faded to black. I've tried using a partial wake lock but it doesn't seem to maintain the recording. Should I use AudioRecord instead of MediaRecorder? Voice Recorder seems to get by without using AudioRecord.

When I record video on my htc-magic, the sound is recorded very quietly. (is also quiet after uploaded to YouTube etc.) Is there a way to boost the sensitivity of the microphone? Sound is also very quiet when using one of the voice recorder apps. Speaker on magic is fine (if not very tinny), can hear beebplayer, youtube etc. at reasonable level. Also made sure my fingers are not covering the microphone hole (next to USB port)

Is there a way to adjust this? I was at a concert last night and tried to record a few clips, and when I got home, everything is muffled as hell. I found someone else who posted a video of the concert and was maybe ~15-20' from where I was at, yet theres is clear. I doubt it was from another incredible, but I've had this issue with digital cameras too. Any way I can fix this so I can get some good clips next time i go to a concert?

I have a wired headset that plugs into the 3.5mm jack on the phone. I get sound fine through the ear buds, but my microphone isn't working, or at least, I can't find the options to turn it on. I'm running V24 KaosFroyo, I'm going to post in that thread on XDA, but figured I would run a quick check here. I'm using Sony's Amazon.com: Sony MDREX38iP/BLK EX Earbud with iPod Remote Control... by chance anyone know what I should do? besides returning them?

My audio analysis application needs a microphone sample rate of greater than 8000 Hz.At least 11025 Hz is required. It seems that some phones support a higher rate and some are limited to 8000 Hz.Does anyone know what percentage of Android phones will support the higher sample rate? And if I do develop this app, how can a potential customer determine whether or not his particular phone supports the higher sampling rate?

One thing the Incredible doesn't have that the Nexus One does is the fancy noise cancellation technology. I'm a little surprised at how little this is being mentioned and I'm also puzzled at why this feature was dropped since on paper it sounds like such a good thing. Does anyone have experience with how well it worked? Did it not work out as well as planned, was it a cost saving measure to drop it, or does nobody actually talk directly into their phone anymore?
