General :: App To Setup Work / Home Profiles?

Aug 5, 2013

where I work, my signal is pretty bad. So I typically turn off Bluetooth, GPS, etc to extend my battery any little I can. So I'd like to get an app that sets up profiles for work so that between 7am-3pm, those settings turn off an than turn back on after 3. I think CM has a feature like this built in but I'm on my sgs3, TW. SCH-I535

Android : Way To Get Setting Profiles To Work Correctly?

Aug 16, 2010

I want to keep the phone from ringing during my meal times, so I have set a profile called "Meal." I have it set to Silent mode and have turned media volume to zero (I use an MP3 song for my ring, so I figured doing both would be safer). I have set the rule to activate "Meal" from 18:00 to 19:00. I set this up over the weekend, but I got a call tonight (and it rang) at about 6:50 (18:50). Am I missing something in my settings? I have the full version, not the trial.

General :: Automatically Disable Screen Lock At Home Or Work

Oct 21, 2013

Is there a simple setting that will automatically disable my screen lock when I'm at home or at work? If not a setting, is there an app you recommend?

Long version: I'm fairly new to "devices". I got my first, a wifi-only Samsung tablet about 6 months ago and use it sporadically, mostly when traveling, but also it's become my semi-permanent music player at home. I got my first smart phone, a MotoX about 2 weeks ago. Love the MotoX and feel it's exceptionally well designed, easy to configure, and useful, but I have nothing to compare it to other than my wife's IPhone 5.

I have done a web search for this information. I have also searched and scanned around these forums, but didn't find anything I felt comfortable with in terms of how fussy or current the set up steps are or how current the app recommendations are. The two apps I've come across are, IIRC, called "Delayed Lock (trial or paid)" and "Unlock with WiFi".

My question is - today, mid-October 2013 - how do you recommend disabling screen lock while at certain locations. I imagine I'll be using it strictly at work or at home, both of which have wifi I connect to automatically. I might want to disable screen lock while driving, but so far have found my MotoX's Assist driving mode to work very well. I might get a Bluetooth device and at that point would probably want to disable the screen lock while that bluetooth device was connected.

Samsung EPIC 4G :: How To Setup Shortcuts To Home Screens?

Sep 17, 2010

Does anyone know how to setup shortcut icons to specific home screens? This includes using any launcher out there. I know you can't do it in TouchWiz, even though if you press on any of the home screen indicators (the dots at the top) you can fast path to that screen. I tried launcher pro - but could not figure it out - that could be user error. The reason I want this, is to keep my home page clean and have a few icons at the bottom to get to certain pages without having to scroll. (examples music, tools, car, shopping).

Android : Way To Setup Live Wallpaper Icon To Work?

Jan 14, 2010

I just wrote my first live wallpaper and am getting ready to publish it, but I've hit a snag on something seemingly simple. I can't get the description to work. I've tried: 1) Putting raw text and string ids as android:description in the metadata for the service in the manifest 2) Putting raw text and string ids as android:description in the service's resource xml file none of those work. I checked the 2 live cube wallpaper examples and neither of those set a description. How is the description (the text under the name of the app on the live wallpaper chooser screen) set for all of those defaults that ship on the nexus?

I want to be able to set up my phone, Verizon Galaxy S4, to have different profiles, I guess you would say. For instance I want to be able to set up a home screen, wallpaper, launcher etc. to look real classy/minimal at times, then at other times I want everything on the home screen, different wallpapers, icons, etc. and maybe a different launcher to boot. A completely different look. I would like to be able to just switch between the setups quickly and at will. The more profiles supported the better..

General :: More Games Not Support Profiles?

Apr 10, 2012

One of the games that I was addicted to, for quite a while, was Airport mania 2. One of the best features about this game is that it had support for multiple users. That way, on our family tablet, I could play it, my wife could play it, and so could my daughter, and all our progress and scores were separate. This was so awesome it's hard to describe. Kind of like having an epiphany.

So the main question is, why do other uber popular games like Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc not support multiple users.

Tablet are becoming more prevalent these days and most families I knew have one tablet that is shared. Not being able to separate my game scores and progress from those of other family members is really bad. I don't play most games any more because someone else in my family already does and I want to play a whole run by myself.

From a programming standpoint it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard. A separate set of stored data for each profile and a screen to let the user choose which set of data to load. However since very few games do this, I'm guessing there's more to it than that, or they just don't care..

* WLAN-Connection to special WLAN
* Position of the phone (display downside )
* NFC-Tags
* Position
* etc.

General :: Viewing Photos From Restricted Profiles

Feb 10, 2014

I just created a restricted profile on my Nexus 7 2nd edition. The goal of the restricted profile is to provide a "kiosk"-esq style profile for kids I interact with at work. Currently, I allow the restricted profile to have access to the camera and gallery for them to take pictures and I would then later post them to instagram for our social media page. I don't like the idea of them having access to the companies instagram, so, obviously, I deny that permission. The question I have is, is it possible to access, view, and edit the photos from the restricted profile from the owner profile, but NOT the other way around. Essentially, I want to create a one way street here, but can't figure out how. The photos seem to be independent per profile and I'm wondering how to change that.

General :: Color Profiles And Screen Calibration?

Aug 7, 2012

Preferably being able to load color profiles like sRGB or Adobe RGB directly. I'm not reffering to simple RGB settings or Gamma tweaking.

The reason I'm asking is that I work in 16 bit float mostly and got a perfectly calibrated IPS NEC nicely working with a 12bit LUT and also 2 calibrated TN panel screens.

The final image goes to 8bit PNGs and JPGs with sRGB embedded. Now the difference between the final outcome on the IPS screen and the TN ones and the one displayed on 4 different android mobile phones I got available for testing is extremely big. So big, that just everything is off. I thought that embedding color profiles might cause this but using other common profiles or none at all still were extremely off.

I'd like to point out that the image is not necessarily bad, it's just wrong knowing how the end result looks on perfectly calibrated monitors at home or at work.

I'm just surprised that there is close to no information available on how to properly view imagery with embedded profiles considering that the internet is full of fancy mobile phone screen tests and benchmarks nitpicking every single micro millimeter on a screen light years away from normal use conditions. (At least they don't take into account that probably 60-80% of the images average users view on their mobiles are crappily compressed Facebook .jpgs and the rest photographs shot on mobile cameras..but that's not what the thread is about.)

Is there really no way to counter factory presets? It's like with TVs on factory or even worse shop presets with shiny oversaturated colors and crushed contrasts, but on TVs you got the chance to turn the crap off at last.

Android :: Facebook For Droid App's Home Screen Widget Work?

Feb 5, 2010

Actually this question applies to any widget that requires data from a remote server.

The answer would be pure speculation, but how do you think the widget gets its data? For those that don't know, the widget shows a history of your friends' latest status updates.

Some answers that I can think of:

The widget polls the API directly
The widget grabs data from some
service that's running in the
background, which polls the server
Somehow Facebook implemented push on
Android which I don't think exists
The widget somehow detects that the
user is using the screen and grabs
the data on demand
