Android :: Unknown Host When Connected In WiFi

Jun 12, 2009

I send files to FTP server in my application. Internet permission is set :
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/>
It works quite fine when connected with 3G/3G+. Sometimes, not very often, I get a "SocketException no route to host" or "unknown host" exception when trying to connect. When I'm connected with WIFI, it works sometimes and it's very fast, but the same error occurs very often, and when it has occurred I must restart my WiFi to be able to connect again, even with webbrowser. I use apache commons FTPClient this way:

ftpClient.connect(server, 21); ftpClient.login(user, password);
ftpClient.changeWorkingDirectory(directory); ftpClient.setFileType(FTP.BINARY_FILE_TYPE);
BufferedInputStream buffIn = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file));
ftpClient.enterLocalPassiveMode(); ftpClient.storeFile(file.getName(), buffIn); buffIn.close();
ftpClient.logout(); ftpClient.disconnect();

Errors look like this:

It looks like having forgot something that makes connection down after several uses of my ftp program, but what? And why does this work quite well (but not always) with 3G/EDGE connection?

Game :: Android Java.net.Unknown Host Exception

Jul 20, 2010

I have android code that uses a background process to routinely (e.g. hourly) connect to a content source on the web to check for updated content. As new users download the app and run it for the first time, it seems (and this is just a "seems at the moment) that in this first-run situation, because the DNS for our servers are not cached already on the device, those first series of connections fail with dreaded UnknownHostException: Host is unresolved. And of course, the application tries again later and (again, "it seems like") it is all working -- perhaps because the OS has had time to actually resolve the address. So, my question(s) are: (1) Do other Android developers see this behavior with their deployed applications as well? First time, a series of "host unresolved" issues that work themselves out later. (2) Does anyone have a better strategy for "warming up the DNS" so-to-speak so that the first real connections work? or perhaps do you just re-try with some back-off looping when you encounter this exception? I was contemplating having a separate thread that tries to fetch a small text file from our server and have it just loop until it gets it and maybe (not sure about this part) block the other outgoing network connections until it succeeds.

Jelly Bean :: Unknown Android OS / Service Process Battery Drain?

Sep 16, 2013

What is weird to me is that on the closeup line graph the second half plummets much faster than the first half. But at the same time, the second half doesn't nearly have as many wakelocks (as indicated by the "Awake" bar being basically completely empty during that time.

What the mobile network colours represent but I never had this problem previously with it on all the time so this shouldn't be an issue. GPS is always on. Again, this was never an issue until supposedly now so this also shouldn't be an issue.

Now, the four big drainers are Cell Standby, Android System, Google Services, and Android OS. Cell Standby I know is due to a missplaced decimal point in the framework, so I know that's just false battery recording. Android System I don't have a clue what the problem is, I read somewhere it might have to deal with wakelocks. But it won't tell me what process exactly is causing battery drain. Google Services are well, google services. I don't know what are classified as google services exactly (like this was never a problem before..), and finally Android OS. Again, the battery statistics thing isn't nearly specific enough.

Is there any ways to make this possible?

Background: my Sat-Receiver records to an ext2/3 partition and I would like to transfer this smoothly to my nook.

Currently my solution is to use my laptop, there I need a ext2/3 driver and transfer via MPT. This is not very comfortable and slow.

But I have been waiting for the Nexus Tab for months, because of the screen, processor, and price. however since it does not have a microSD, I would definitely need to be able to plug in my 500GB usb hdd into it. I would need a OTG cable, right? And it does not use the MicroUSB port to charge, right? Otherwise how could you use the usb and charge it at the same time?

So I did i lot of research and tests at "how i can enable it" and found some information:

1. some things point to it, like the libusbhost.so in /system/lib
2. all 5 pins of the usb slot are connected to a chip (this says nothing, i know)
3. i have found a pdf, which says that otg is possible on mt6575-77 (found on github)

General :: IPv6 Access From Host To Android Device?

Jan 1, 2012

I'm trying to connect from a host (PC or other) to a mobile cellular Android device on the Verizon/AT&T cellular network. This device uses only the 3G network and has its Wi-Fi turned off. The Android device has a listening socket and I need the remote host to be the connection initiator. As far as I know, Verizon/AT&T uses NAT traversal for mobile phones and assigns local IP addresses to them on the cellular network. This prevents me from initiating a connection to the device from a remote host.

With the usage of IPv6 assignments there shouldn't be any practical limitation (virtually unlimited) to the number of "real" IPs that can be assigned.Therefore my questions are:

1. Does the Verizon/AT&T cellular network support IPv6 and assigns IPv6 addresses to capable Android devices?

2. Does Android 2.2+ have enough support for IPv6 to implement such solution?

I am aware of other methods that can be used, such as C2DM, but it has some drawbacks (such as unknown response time) that prevent me from using it.
