General :: LAMP Local Host On Android?
Feb 16, 2012
I am a junior web developer and learning the world of CMS and would really like to run and test joomla, drupal and wordpress sites of my locahost setup. Is there anyway of installing a localhost on android. I would be extremely interested and i dont mind paying for someything that can do this on. Basically my tablet is lways with me and far more reliable than my windows 7 laptop and would like to do the majority of the work on that and only use windows for the full photoshop software.

I published an application that stores data in a local database.
Now I have to publish an update to this application to fix some little bugs, but I am afraid that downloading and installing the update will delate the local database associated with the previous version.
I would like to know how the update system works. Will installing an update completely delete all the apk, files, databases associeted with the previous version?
If so, how can I avoid this in my code?

I'm trying to connect from a host (PC or other) to a mobile cellular Android device on the Verizon/AT&T cellular network. This device uses only the 3G network and has its Wi-Fi turned off. The Android device has a listening socket and I need the remote host to be the connection initiator. As far as I know, Verizon/AT&T uses NAT traversal for mobile phones and assigns local IP addresses to them on the cellular network. This prevents me from initiating a connection to the device from a remote host.
With the usage of IPv6 assignments there shouldn't be any practical limitation (virtually unlimited) to the number of "real" IPs that can be assigned. Therefore my questions are:
1. Does the Verizon/AT&T cellular network support IPv6 and assigns IPv6 addresses to capable Android devices?
2. Does Android 2.2+ have enough support for IPv6 to implement such solution?
I am aware of other methods that can be used, such as C2DM, but it has some drawbacks (such as unknown response time) that prevent me from using it.

I`m searching for a useable solution to get usb host/otg on my Galaxy Ace. I want to use my phone to control my nikon-dslr. There are apps like dslrdashboard or bbqdslr on the market, but they need usb host.
Using Mardons CM10.1 ROM [URL] .... but it seems that the kernel doesn`t support usb host.
I didn't find a kernel with usb host.

It seems strange to me: ext2/3/4 is the native filesystem for the device - but with device as USB host I can't access. It seems only FAT and NTFS is available.
Is there any ways to make this possible?
Background: my Sat-Receiver records to an ext2/3 partition and I would like to transfer this smoothly to my nook.
Currently my solution is to use my laptop, there I need a ext2/3 driver and transfer via MPT. This is not very comfortable and slow.

Right now, I'm using an HTC EVO 4G LTE, running ICS. Now the source code is out, however, no one has yet to add USB host capabilities to their kernel, so I figure I might as well do it myself. I read on kernel development, and I have a surface level understanding, but I'm just interested in adding the USB host capabilities.

how the Nexus Tablet 7 charges? Not through the USB port, right?
I have a Transformer right now w/ the dock & 2 full sized usb ports on it. But I have been waiting for the Nexus Tab for months, because of the screen, processor, and price. however since it does not have a microSD, I would definitely need to be able to plug in my 500GB usb hdd into it. I would need a OTG cable, right? And it does not use the MicroUSB port to charge, right? Otherwise how could you use the usb and charge it at the same time?

I am curious if theres an app out there that supports USB host for keyboards and/or Flash drives. What i want to do, is use either my tab 2 7.0 or my old htc hero as a router. I want to set up a homegroup from my server, but dont want to buy a router. My isea is to create a network and broadcast it from the wifi card in the ohone. This probably wont connect to the internet any time soon, but i feel that as long as i only need to access movies and stuff from my server the phone card's radiuswill suffuce.

I need the OTG/USB Host function on my Jiayu G3. Normally it doesn't support it..
So I did i lot of research and tests at "how i can enable it" and found some information:
1. some things point to it, like the libusbhost.so in /system/lib
2. all 5 pins of the usb slot are connected to a chip (this says nothing, i know)
3. i have found a pdf, which says that otg is possible on mt6575-77 (found on github)
So my question, how to get otg/usb host get enabled on Jiayu G3 oder m65xx phones?

I'm using CM9, but I tried different ICS roms and I encounter this problem with all of them.
- I'm trying to add a local phone (non gmail) contact to my phone, but it doesn't let me do that. When I add a new contact, a message box pops up saying, that: "Your new contact will be synchronized with <my gmail account>". How to add a local phone (not a SIM card) number?
- I have a backup of all my local phone numbers from GB made with MyPhoneExplorer, and restoring it works when I'm on ICS. The contacts are shown as local phone contacts (PCSC). However, after restarting the phone and waiting a few minutes, all the local contacts are completely gone. MyPhoneExplorer confirms that there are no contacts in the phone either. What's going on?
I really do not want to sync my contacts with google. Looking forward to hearing some answers!

I have a Galaxy Nexus with stock Android 4.0.2. On day one, I imported a bunch of contacts by writing a small program using the contacts API. This worked great, and they all show up as "phone-only, unsynced contact" in the contact list, which is exactly what I want. When I now try to manually add a new contact through the phone's menus, I have no choice but to add it as a "Google contact". How can I add it as local (unsynced) from the menus?

Recently, I flashed CM7 (Neutrino ROM) onto my Atrix, and I'm loving it. However, there is one problem left: The stock calendar app that came with the Atrix is gone, and I can't use aCalendar or Agenda any more without resorting to Google Calendar, which I will not, being very sensitive about data privacy.
How can I get back a purely local calendar that both are able to sync with? They do not know about each other (same with Jorte, Business Calendar, ...), and I have not found any suitable replacement for that team so far, as most calendar apps' native widgets do no fulfill my requirements and Agenda is very, very customizable.

At work, we are networked together (not wireless), anyone can type, for example \cpu1253c$ and you are now mapped to that person's computer, you can view anything on there and they don't even know you are in their computer. So I am wondering how to hide or protect my phone when it's plugged in, just charging or as a disc drive. I could use a wall charger but when I want to do file transfers, I am not sure if anyone can access my phone (Samsung S4). I am not sure what kind of network our company is on, when I log in from home, it comes to a SSL-VPN screen, another says Sonic Wall. Today I tried the properties option in the folder I had open with my phone and there was no "no share" option that I could see

I found that the folder /data/local contains copies of some *.apk files that also exists on /system/app with the exact same size!
What is the purpose of this folder and if I can safely delete the apks inside it safely, without affecting their usage? It is occupying 60Mb of space,,
