View 2 RepliesI am looking for a way to automate my Android phone connecting to an SSH server when the phone connects to an unsecured wifi network. My understanding is that this is adequate to keep my traffic from being sniffed by DroidSheep (Android), FireSheep (Windows), or other packet sniffers.
I'm using this guide to connect my Android phone to the SSH server: link HERE
Is the Tasker app the best way to do this?
- if yes: how do I trigger the launch of the SSHTunnel when the trigger event (connection to unsecured wifi network) occurs?
- if no: what is a better way?
Note: I did a search for SSH (link HERE) and did not see anything covering this.
I am having a strange problem with the Sprint mobile hotspot. When I am in a 4G area, my phone picks up and uses 4G with no problem. However, the instant I turn on the mobile hotspot, the 4G connection drops, and the phone reverts to 3G. The moment I turn off the hotspot, the phone goes back to 4G. If I turn the hotspot on/off from the Wireless & networks settings page, I can see that the instant the hotspot finishes initializing, the 4G line goes to "disconnected." It then goes to scanning and then sits at "obtaining IP address" for several seconds, at which point it starts that cycle over again. It goes through this cycle repeatedly until I turn off the hotspot, never getting past the "obtaining IP address" stage.I called Sprint tech support, and the best they came up with was to do a hard reset and see if that resolved the issue. Before I do that, I would like to see if anyone here has any idea what might cause this issue and how to resolve it short of a hard reset. I am running the official OTA froyo OS version. The update was pushed out the day after I got my Evo, so I do not know if this issue existed in 2.1.

View 14 Replies View RelatedHave set up Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on my 4S 4.2.2. Everything seems OK and laptop identifies AP and connects to it
but there is no internet connection to the phone. Data 3G works perfectly - regular internet works perfectly - Orange UK.
How does either the sprint or verizon wifi hotspot option compare to a real broadband connection? I'm assuming the speeds would be poorer but I want to hear from a personal account first. If the 3g performance is exceptional i may just drop my comcast cable modem given the droid x can support up to 8 wireless devices.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
After rooting, is there any app you can get that will allow you to create a wifi hotspot.

View 38 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this means anything, but I just got a shipping email from ZAGG for my invisible shield HTC EVO 4G. I ordered last week, and it is shipping today. I ordered the screen-only protector, because I plan on using a hard shell case for the back.
View 49 Replies View RelatedInstalled the IS on 2 incredibles this evening.Everything went well, they look great. Just a few tiny bubbles that should dry up.The phones have been "resting" for about 6 hours now. I plan on waiting the full 24 hours before i put the batteries back in and turn them on. I started reading some posts on other forums about how people have messed up their phones with water damage after installing the IS. Just wanted to see if anyone was having any trouble after installing the IS.I tried not to use alot of water, but there was some water coming out from under the IS when i was squeegeeing the bubbles out.Going to be a worrisome 24 hrs.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI bought the zagg at bb today. They installed it and I dont like it at all. It does not look good, the texture is is not smooth, and it does not work well with swype. They said let it cure for 2 days. If i remove it does it come off clean? It may protect good but the cheap ones at verizon look better.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is a question to all the longer term users of the phone. I've had several phones before, all new and shiny in the beginning but before too long their facade starts to come off. Finishing, body, etc. How good is the desire in this respect?
- How many nicks have you got on yours? Does it get scratched easily? I mean the touchscreen as well as the body.
- Does the body colour come off easily?
- Are there any parts of the phone where dust accumulates?
- Does the battery cover show signs of becoming loose?
- Do the volume rocker keys become loose?
Can the phone take a couple of falls? I've been handling my Desire like my own baby but it's only a matter of time before it slips from my hands I feel. Also I simply love the look of the phone, and don't want to put on a silicone or a body shield but if it's really necessary I shall.
Is it just me, or are they hard to put on? I used one of the 50% off coupons to pick up a shield for 10 bucks. When I got it, it took me 3-4 times to put it on, and still there were bubbles, even after 24 hours of drying.I contacted them and they were pretty much no help as I did everything already that they suggested. So I went to Best Buy today to pick up another one and to have them them install it for $7.99. It looks FANTASTIC. It took him about 3 minutes to do! They did have their own bottle of some liquid not the standard one that came in the package. Anyway, if you have trouble or want it done right, have them do it!
View 49 Replies View RelatedWhat's your vote? They both look like strong contenders but it also looks like the Inv.Shields are thin and stretchy and the Clarivue are more stiff. Wouldn't stiffness aid in easy installation and fewer bubbles. How do these screens look through polarized sunglasses?
View 6 Replies View RelatedA week ago I received the Invisible Shield from Zagg in the mail and was very excited. I read the instructions, saw some installation videos on youtube and after 1 hour of preparation i was ready for the install. The installation process is a nightmare as you have to apply the solution while keeping the shield from sticking to itself and its a PIA to align correctly. I installed the back cover first and after many tries I had it correctly aligned but it didn't fit perfectly meaning there were areas that the shield did not cover completeley such as corners which are the most prone to damage. Next I installed the screen protector OMFG what a POS. It had bubbles all over even after using the squegee card. I thought I'd give it a few days for them to clear up as Zagg claims that within 24 hrs they disappear. They did not go away and it made the screen look bad especially on a white background. Needless to say the smaller pieces are also a nightmare to install. Anyways, today I saw my phone and got tired of looking at that Zagg crap and at the sticky feel it gives the phone and took it off and went back to what I had before.I had the siliicone case from the sprint store and the screen protector from the sprint store which had worked perfectly since november: not a single scratch and no dust problems. So really beware of the Zagg products, at least I got it for free so it didn't hurt to throw it away.
View 49 Replies View RelatedAnd my finger doesn't glide over the screen as easily as it did before. I am hoping it is just some residue that will come off. Has anyone experienced this before? I tried wiping the screen down with a damp cloth but it didn't help.
View 40 Replies View RelatedI went to BB and they had them in and I had them apply it to my DI. After I had payed the guy tells me not to put the caase back on my phone or use it for at least 6 hours.I was like what if I knew that I would have waited and put it on myself later tonight.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIt fell off the bumber, no insurance, it got rolled over a few times. It still works fine, but the screen is completely shattered. I got a new one off ebay, actually did good, kept looking and got a brand new one, with the front cover (didn't have to separate the LCD from the glass) for $79. When I was taking it apart, instead of peeling up the whole information sticker off of the EMI shield, I peeled the thin layer of plastic off of it. My question is, is the metal that the information label is stuck to the EMI shield by itself? I would think that it is, but I want to make sure that the sticker is not some type of special material that has something to do with electromagnetic interference, and that by not putting the sticker back on I am subjecting myself or someone else to EMI. I know it is a weird question, but I'm just curious, does anybody know the answer? Here is a link to the part I am talking about.

View 12 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone use the Zagg full body shield and if so what do you think about it? I have the neoprene case with mine and the Zagg screen protector though I heard these cases cause dust to collect through the volume rocker and thus getting under the screen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLooks pretty craptacular right now. I know I'm supposed to give it another 12-24 hours to dry and "cure" (although I seem to recall seeing the timeframe of 24-48 hours on this board, anyone vouch for that?), but I'm a little concerned.Sorry for the huge crappy pic, had to take it with my old phone. But you can see the smears and lines. Those are what I'm worried about. Anyone who's used a Zagg able to comment on whether those disappear in the curing process? I'll be sure to post better pics when it's completely dried for people.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter installing my invisible shield this morning, I turned the device over to replace the batter and low and behold the darn thing is a slightly deeper pink in the corner. View 2 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else having trouble staying connected to "Wi-Fi"? I am having 3 problems:
#1: For some reason, my phone will show the connection and 10-15 minutes later, the connection is gone. Nothing changed, the router is like 2-4 feet away and it is a "G" router.
#2: The other problem I am having with the Wi-Fi is the indicator will drop off of the notification bar, but when I go to the settings, the Wi-Fi is highlighted like it is connected, but there is NO connection stated under the Wi-Fi setting.
#3: The Wi-Fi will drop off of the notification bar and when I go to the settings the Wi-Fi indicator is highlighted indicating active, but again, nothing under the Wi-Fi stating what the connection is. So I choose the same connection it has been using and I connection will state it is out of range, when in fact it is 2-4 feet away, again, nothing changed. So I reset the router and it will try to obtain a connection, but says it is unsuccessful, however, the network states under the name that it is "Remembered". So I highlight the network and than I get a Disconnect. This is really becoming an irratating issue! It worked fine first 2 days and than bam, starts to go crazy. So is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Is it possible to connect the phone to a router to create a wireless hotspot? Would/could this give better coverage than simply using the phone as the hotspot? I currently have a Rezound, and have yet to root so I am stuck with tethering, for now.

Is there something else I need to do or an app I need to download to get the hot spot functionality working correctly?
