General :: WiFi Display / Miracast Is On Any Android 4.2 Device?

May 25, 2013

I am lookung for a cheap device with WiFi display feature - maybe Miracast

I wonder if a special hardware is it necessary for it? Or maybe Android 4.2 has this feature out of the box in any device?

General :: WiFi display / Miracast is on any Android 4.2 device?

General :: Android Device As Miracast Receiver

Dec 14, 2013

As far as I know Miracast Streaming is software related. So majority of 4.2.2+ phones can stream the display. I wonder if it is possible that all the devices act as receivers too?

What I mean is.. if you have an Android TV Box, can you make it work as Miracast receiver so I could stream my android phone to that Android TV Box?

I am looking at some Android Boxes HERE and I see that only THIS ONE "officially" supports Miracast (as receiver). Is it really the only one with Miracast capability?

General :: How To Make Most WiFi Direct Enabled To Beam To Miracast

Jul 4, 2013

I just got a Netgear Push2TV 3000, which not only encompases WiDi, but Miracast support in this version.

From what my understand is though, is that both these WiDi and Miracast technologies are basically just wireless HDMI anyway.

My question is if it's possible to come up with a mod to work to allow any (or at least most) rooted phones with a ROM like CM that integrate Miracast into their settings for every build?

I did try doing just that with my droid 4 running CM 10,1 with its wifi direct setting..it said it was connecting, amazingly...but nothing else after that.

General :: Android Device As Second Display

Feb 22, 2012

I'm looking to be able to use my Galaxy Tab as a second PC display. I've been searching for hours for a way to set this up and I've found a few solutions, but so far they've all been lacking. I'm hoping others might have some experience or thoughts on the subject. Here's what I tried or looked into so far:

iDisplay - Available on the Market. So far about the only solution that works, but it's god awful slow. If you try to use a browser with a couple tabs open, it practically stands still. It also disables Aero on Windows 7.

Screenslider - Available on the Market. Disables Aero. Doesn't like web browsing, FF and IE won't redraw when clicking anything (links, Java objects, tabs, etc).

Air Display - Available on the Market. Disables Aero and DirectX. This one was extremely responsive, but you just can't do anything on it. Not compatible with FF9 or later and can't handle dynamic web content.

Remote View - Available on the Market. Disables Aero and Background. Honestly, I don't even remember why this one didn't work. Pretty sure browsers just froze. Have to jump through hoops on their website to even get the server.Splashtop XDisplay - iOS only. Looks like it would be perfect, but it's not on Android yet. They said they were working on it 6 months go, so I'm not holding my breath.

Virtual display + a VNC connection - This is the most promising, so far. The idea is to use software to create a virtual display that's normally hidden, then use a VNC server (that can deal with individual displays) to send that extra display to a VNC viewer on the Android device. It seems like this would be the most responsive, plus you shouldn't lose Aero or specific applications since you're essentially just sending out a video stream (I think). Some apps even combine the virtual display and VNC server into one. In reality, actually setting this up has been a royal PITA (due in no small part to my complete lack of experience with this sort of thing).

Other Android RDP or VNC apps that have this sort of functionality built in?

General :: Fooling WiFi Router That Android Device Is Actually A PC

Nov 6, 2013

I am having an issue at office. The wifi router seems to be blocking all Android Devices (i.e administrator has intentionally done it) except for PC & Notebook. For example we have a access point with the name of "ROLEX", if i connect to this access point using my android device then it never works but if i try with my notebook then it connects without any issue. We are facing this issue with almost all android devices.

So is it a way to fool the wifi router that my android device is actually a PC and allows me to connect.

General :: Device Can't Detect WiFi

Sep 28, 2012

I would like to ask, what are some of the core files that wifi depend on to be able to work?

And what permissions are set for those files? I am using a Cowon Z2 which runs on Android 2.3.5, and it suddenly stops detecting hotspots. It just keeps scanning endlessly with no hotspots. My Nexus S can detect and connect still.

I tried a couple of things like, removing the data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file to allow it to generate a new file, but it still fails.

know what are the files I should see to ensure that wifi works.

OR

How do I know if my wifi hardware is dead?

In Wi-Fi Direct specification, it is written that "Only one of the Wi-Fi devices needs to be compliant with Wi-Fi Direct to establish a peer-to-peer connection that transfers data directly between each other with greatly reduced setup."

Want to: run apps that demand to have WiFi on+connected, even when I'm on 3G/4G. (Specifically, I'd be happy if I could get Xfinity TV Player to run on my rooted stock Nexus 4 over HSPA, but again, hoping this thread will attract info about tricking apps in the general case.)

Tried:

A) qaWifiOnlyMode.txt,

B) running WiFi Tether For Root Users and quickly turning wifi on after launching. Neither worked.

I just bought a new Miracast capable smart tv (LG LN5700). When attempting to connect using the new screen mirroring option, the wifi direct connection is successful, the tv recognizes that the connecion is made, but the screen goes black and eventually the connection dies. My girlfriend also has an S3 on Sprint running 4.2 and hers works just fine.

When I press the entry, an info box says that signal strength is good and security is open. (for the purpose of trying to have my phone connect). When I press "connect," it says "Obtaining IP address." Then after a couple of minutes, it says "Unsuccessful."

My phone has connected to other WiFi networks with no problem; indeed, it has done so automatically, with no effort on my part. My router assigns IP addresses via DHCP. It also broadcasts its SSID, which the phone recognizes.
