Dec 19, 2012
I'm going to make an application for meteor viewers and the goal is, to send soma data from android device to PC through the wifi without router. So on PC will be made a Hotspot and one or more devices can connect to it.Is there any application and/or server on PC or both to make this communication? Or what's the way how to do that? What's protocol of communication?

I have been using this workaround and sharing files through WIFI without connecting to a router. I hope this is helpful to all. I have tested this on Tmobile G1 and a Dev phone.
What you need?
- An Android Phone
- ROOT!
- WIFI Tether for Root Users - link android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code
- SDCard WIFI Access - Available on market
What others need?
A Phone with WIFI
Or
Computer with WIFI
This is how you do it.
- Start WIFI Tether and ask the other person to connect to the Adhoc connection.
- This person should show connected to your phone now.
- Open the app SD Card WIFI Access, this will show you two IP addresses. One would be an IP for the Mobile Network and another for your phone. Provide the phone IP address (should be example 192.168.xxx.xxx:8180)
- Ask the person to type the IP address in the browser and ensure they put the port number 8180
- If you followed the steps correctly the person will now see your SD card contents on their phone or the computer browser.
A click on any file will send the file to their phone at >1MBPS

I am having an issue at office. The wifi router seems to be blocking all Android Devices (i.e administrator has intentionally done it) except for PC & Notebook. For example we have a access point with the name of "ROLEX", if i connect to this access point using my android device then it never works but if i try with my notebook then it connects without any issue. We are facing this issue with almost all android devices.
So is it a way to fool the wifi router that my android device is actually a PC and allows me to connect.

I am trying to conduct a bit of research before starting to develop an android application I am planning. I want the application to exhibit the following behavior:
If connected to WiFi, send and receive messages to remote server.Else If not connected to WiFi, do not send any messages. Display error message.
I am trying to create an ethical application so users will not be charged when they become disconnected from WiFi without them noticing. Any existing source/documentation on how to do this.

am working o a project using my samsung S2 mobile ,,
am collecting data from it's sensors like accelometer and gyro and make some analysis on it on the labview software ,,
my problem is that i need to send these data to the software using the wifi since my laptop does not have a bluetooth card ,, i know how to make it by bluetooth ,, but using the wifi i could only record the data in a data file using the pcremote advance application ,, but i dont know how to read from the mobile to labview software directly just as bluetooth ... i guess there must be a library for labview to read immediately from wifi !

I am developing an Android app that needs to communicate bi-directionally with a server. By that, I mean either the server or the device can send a message at any time, with an arbitrary amount of time in between messages. Sending data from the device to the server is a common and I think well understood task, but I'm not as sure what the best approach is to go in the opposite direction from the server to the device.
I think having the device periodically poll the server may be a bad idea due to latency and the drain on the battery, but I'd be willing to consider this option. My plan at the moment is to send text messages from the server via an email-to-SMS bridge, and to have my app run a service to receive and handle these messages.
The question I have is if there are any best practices for this scenario, and if using text messages has some downsides that I have failed to consider. For the sake of this question, I want to assume that users have an unlimited text data plan, so paying per text won't be an issue.

Current version of Android (4.2.2).
Want to: run apps that demand to have WiFi on+connected, even when I'm on 3G/4G. (Specifically, I'd be happy if I could get Xfinity TV Player to run on my rooted stock Nexus 4 over HSPA, but again, hoping this thread will attract info about tricking apps in the general case.)
Tried:
A) qaWifiOnlyMode.txt,
B) running WiFi Tether For Root Users and quickly turning wifi on after launching. Neither worked.

I checked my wireless router this morning and noticed that a device called "android_22a10000" was showing up in the DHCP client list. I usually leave my Android WiFi off at night so I checked it. Sure enough, it is in the "off" position. I'm using the latest Sprint/EVO 2.2 release and and wondering if anyone else has noticed this little tidbit? My perception is that it isn't truly off and is using already limited, precious battery resources on the EVT to connect to the WiFi.

I have a ZyXEL P-2602HW-D1A Router with the following settings:
- SSID hidden: No
- Channel: 6
- Security: Static 128-bit WEP
- Firmware: V3.40(AJQ.4) | 07/14/2008
These settings are defined my the company I work for. My router works fine with both desktop and labtop computers however my various mobile phones are the WIFI issue. I've tried to use both a Samsung i8910 and a HTC Desire where I experience that the phones can connect and many download data for a short while. But here after the connection is very slow, the lag time is up to many minutes or the phone and router just disconnects. But when I use my mobile phones with all other WIFI routers they work fine!

My Droid X won't connect to my Linksys router properly. I have it WPA encrypted but when I go to connect to it with my phone it shows the phone is seeing it as a WEP encryption. I tried manually changing it but it seems like that messes with it even more. I prefer not to change the encryption to WEP because of it's flaws and can easily be hacked. Maybe is there something I need to do to get my Droid to pick it up right?

So, I will try to be as detailed as possible, but this may be outside the scope of this forum. I will respond to any direct questions in regards to my configuration.I have a brand new Motorola Droid 2 and a Cisco 851w wireless router which I have configured myself.I can successfully associate the droid 2 to my wireless network. It obtains an IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.Using an android market ping utility, however I cannot ping externally or even to my gateway.I've tried the following in the process of my troubleshooting:tatically assigning my droid's internal addresses (and explicitly naming DNS).Unhiding my SSID Provisioning an alternate completely unsecured, unhidden wireless SSID (as opposed to an original hidden SSID, WPA2/PSK configuration)Restarting the phone and routerLaptop devices are able and have been able to associate, and pass traffic without issue for over a year.I cannot really pinpoint an issue with this setup, as I am able to associate and browse consumer/business wireless networks elsewhere without issue. Searches for the above described issue yield the same suggestions I have attempted in the process of my troubleshooting.

I'm having a wifi issue with my Hero since I upgraded my router, It will work for a few minutes and then although the router signal says good and Wifi Analyser on the Hero can see the it I get no data coming through.
This is only a recent development though as I upgraded from a Linksys WRT54G (running Tomato firmware) router to a Linksys WRT160NL (which is Wirless-N on standard latest firmware for now), now I know that the Hero doesn't support N but the router is set to mixed mode as I have more G devices than N in my house so it should still work fine.
Never had a single lost connection on my WRT54G but I'd rather not downgrade again.

The router and phones wifi works though because I have another pc connected through wifi and I went to mcdonalds and it managed to connect to their hotspot.
Ive tried 64bit wep, 128bit wep, wpa/wpa2, ive also tried it disabled along with the routers firewall disabled but nothing seems to work. My router is a Belkin F5D8636-4

There appears to be an issue with my Hero-router WiFi connection. Has anyone had similar experiences or have any advice? My Hero can generally see my home wireless router and report a good signal, though the visibility can drop out (when my other devices are still happily connected). It can also see my neighbors' networks, so it isn't a range issue.
For the most part, the Hero just doesn't seem to want to connect. If I reboot the router it will connect briefly for a couple of secs. I've tried altering a few of the router broadcast settings, trying b-only/ g-only/ b+g, but this hasn't helped (n isn't available, but I understand the Hero to be g anyway). I haven't yet been to another WiFi area, to check if it will connect to other networks. My suspicion is it is a specific compatibility issue with my router (Zoom).
