General :: Samsung Lightray SCH-940 - Set Animations To .5 Or Zero To Speed It Up?
Sep 8, 2012
I just got a PC Metro Samsung Galaxy S3 RCH-940 Lightray Awesome phone compared to the apple I had for the last 3 yrs. Problem is it has started lagging very badly. I am trying to set animations to .5 or zero to speed it up. When I goto settings I do not see where the Developer Tab is so I can click on it and goto phone animations and change it.

I have made a custom framework-res.apk that has Android 2.1 "like" animations for the Samsung Behold 2.
You need root to do this and can find out how to root in a different thread.
*NEW* 5/5/10 Animations for Galaxy R10!
Download: 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download framework-res.apk
Follow Instructions for R8 as they are the same.
Do not use this framework with any other ROM or previous versions of Galaxy.
Tested and fully working in R10!
If your having problems with this build, download Factory anims at: 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download (3)framework-res.apk
*Remove the (3) from the framework file after downloading*
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Galaxy R8 Version
Download the framework here: 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download (2)framework-res.apk
Rename the file framework-res.apk (removing the 2).
Now move the file to your Android SDK folder/tools folder on your hard drive.
Next, go to your command prompt and type, pressing enter after every line:
cd
cd (Android SDK folder location) ools
adb push ./framework-res.apk /system/framework
Now reboot your phone and you should have new animations.
I have tested this with BH_MAN's Galaxy 1.6 R8 ROM and everything is working.
*DO NOT USE ON ANY OTHER ROM, it will not work!*
The R8 ROM: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-behold-2/54769-port-galaxy-1-6-behold-2-a.html
If your having problems with the animations, go to this link to download the factory animations: 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download framework-res.apk
Then follow the steps above to apply.
Finally, be sure to have "Animations" enabled under Settings>Sound and Display>Animation for this to work for you or else you will see no difference.

i've been scouring all over to find a way to change the boot animation for the latest nightly of GAOSP, or for any Galaxy ROM for that matter. i've gotten a few apps from the Market, but aren't completely sold on their custom animations. since most of the custom animations i like are for other devices, what do i need to alter in the desc.txt file in order to get them to work? can i just download any zip that i do find that i like and just replace the file and reflash the GAOSP ROM?

I had mine set to Some Animations but just changed it to All and I really like it. The screen don't seem to change quite as fast, but it makes it feel more polished and smooth. What do you have yours set on (Its in Display Settings by the way).

I have seen more than a couple different inquiries (including some by me) on these topics in multiple places in the SF forums and elsewhere. Because of this I figured I would try and collect all the information regarding changing these things and put them into this one thread. If you think I am missing or forgot something, let me know and I can add it in (such as new files, clarification, etc).
Thanks to the respective creators of each file included in this thread. Without you guys we wouldn't even be detailing this process.
DISCLAIMER: This is intended to provide easy step-by-step directions to change bootup and shutdown animations and sounds. I take no responsibility if you screw up your phone attempting to follow these instructions. Read everything carefully.

Anyone had success changing boot animation?

- has a couple of different animations confirmed to work with the SF (thanks to SirKronan for compiling and respective creators for your work)
*Android Scribble 2.0
*Droid Star Wars R2D2
*Android Bios Boot animation
*Windows 7 boot animation
*Spinning droid custom boot animation
*Regular Galaxy S bootup animation
*Droid peeing on apple boot animation (can you confirm this one saps?) (confirmed below)
*Numerous Captivate animations (Stainless steel android, rotating colors android, electric android, etc.)
Here is one sound file (the DROID noise) which is in both formats for bootup and shutdown:
Bootup: DROID.wav
Shutdown: DROID.ogg
Here are some shutdown animations (originally created as bootup animation's from xda user GLa'DOS):
*Android scribble w/yellow color burst (altered by saps)
*Android scribble w/no color burst (altered by saps)
*Android scribble w/green color burst (altered by me)
Another shutdown animation:
*Galaxy S shutdown
PLEASE NOTE: You must be rooted. You must reboot in order for these changes to take effect. You should have Root Explorer (although I am sure there is a way with ADB commands as well though). You may want to create a backup (CWM or the like), just in case. Also, most of the people I have seen do this are running a version of Dirrk's/jt's kernel, which allow boot/shutdown animations to be changed. The kernel you are currently using when attempting to change the animations must allow for them to be changed for this to work.
The file needed to change your boot-up animation should be a .zip file.
I successfully changed my bootup animation by doing the following:
Boot-up animation:
1) download a new boot animation .zip file (I put mine in /sdcard/downloads)
2) open Root Explorer
3) navigate to where you put the new .zip
4) copy the new .zip
5) paste it into /data/local
6) rename it "bootanimation.zip." (if it isn't already)
Also, if you want to change the startup/shutdown sounds:
Startup sound:
1) DL a new sound file
2) convert to a .wav file (using Winamp+.wav converter/iTunes)
3) put on SD card
4) open Root Explorer
5) navigate to /system/etc
6) rename "PowerOn.wav" to "PowerOn.wav.old"
7) navigate to where you placed the DL'ed .wav file
8) copy
9) paste into /system/etc
10) rename it "PowerOn.wav"
Shutdown sound:
1) DL a new sound file
2) convert to .ogg file (I used Winamp+.ogg converter)
3) put on SD card
4) open Root Explorer
5) navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
6) rename "shutdown.ogg" to "shutdown.ogg.old"
7) navigate to the DL'ed .ogg file
8) copy
9) paste into /system/media/audio/ui
10) rename it "shutdown.ogg"
Shutdown animation (DL is above as well): (thanks to saps):

I want to set
Window animation scale 1x (default) to Window animation scale .5x
Transition animation scale 1x (default) to Transition animation scale .5x
Animator duration scale 1x (default) to Animator duration scale .5x
As default in my ROM. So users have 0.5 x in settings but can change it if they wish to.
ROM is 4.1.1 sammy base.

When an action is done in the middle of an animation of transition between screens, the animation is spoiled. Is needed to add a system that stops the animation, and begins the next action.
Using Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.2.1, Stock ROM from Factory Image.
I made a report to Google. [URL]
Some examples:
- Open an app and let many windows behind, for example: Settings > More > Networks > APN > [Your APN]. Press the back button of the navbar several times faster. The animations are spoiled and the phone shows ugly effects. Or press the back button slowly, and in the middle of the animation press back another time.
- Open an app and press the Recents button. Press the Recents button another time, and press it another time when the animation is being showed.
- Enter in Recents, press home and immediately press Recents button.
- Enter in an app and press an option, and press faster the location of the next option you are going, and you know previously where it is.

I don't want to use Sense as my launcher or keep the stock lockscreen either (I use Apex and Widgetlocker).
*I just want a simple app that commands the HTC sense full screen weather animations.
Teslacoil was able to do it with HTC Sense 3.0 on gingerbread 2.3.3 and 2.3.4, but won't work on ICS/JB/Kitkat.
And after downloading almost all of the other lockscreen replacements, none of them have this functionality either.
No I'm not interested in beautiful widgets, Fancy widgets, or HD widgets animations.

I was wondering if there is a way to mix and match animations. For example if you have a "skull and bones" unlock ring and you want the animation to be "the punisher" animation. Seem like there should be a way to put parts of each ring to get a mix. ADR6400L

Just curious if any of you proud Fascinate owners have run the Speed.net app or the FCC speedtest app with your new phone, yet? I have the other CDMA based cousin, Epic 4G, and a lot of us have been experiencing an upload cap of around 200 Kbps over Sprint 3G (Lousy down/up load speed on 3G). Could any of you be kind enough to report back any speed test results that you've done? It might give us more of a clue on whether it's a Sprint issue or a general problem with Samsung's CDMA radios. We've all called Sprint and they were unaware of the issue at the time, so many of us are awaiting call backs from Sprint for updates on our support tickets.

I got the Captivate a week ago. It seems like a lot of apps take forever to load (Facebook, Yahoo Mail, Craigslist, etc). Someone said something about disabling syncing features on apps, but I'm not sure where that is. Also, how can I uninstall the AT&T apps?

After 18 months of dealing with Apple's crap, I switched to an Android. I picked up the AT&T Captivate yesterday at a store in another city (50 miles away) since my local store wasn't open on Sunday. I love this phone. The display is crisp, the response speed is smoking and surprisingly, I like the touch whiz interface, so far. I am having an issue however. When I left the store, I was on EDGE, and all was fine. Drove home on the EDGE network and had EDGE in town yesterday. When I got home I setup my wireless network on it and the web was crisp. Played for a bit, then went to bed. This morning, when I left for work and left range of my home wireless, The phone didn't pick up the EDGE network. ie. I have no EDGE connection. I've rebooted the phone and still no EDGE. (3G doesn't exist in this 1/2 horse town...sigh) I got EDGE pretty much everywhere with my I phone 3G in this crappy little town.

I have been reading a lot about this rooting of the phone just so you can install a fix that will get rid of all the so-called Lag issue. Now, I really like to know why it is a MUST to root your phone just to increase the speed? I do not get it. Aren't there available programs in the market, to shut down unwanted programs? Like Task killer etc. BTW, is this the best program for this issue? I have ordered a Samsung Galaxy S and hopefully I will be getting it soon. But it worries me that the first thing I have to do is 'Root' my phone because of programs running in the background? Does not sound too logical to me. Has everyone rooted this phone upon receiving it?Samsung is coming out with a new firmware or update next month, so is it really necessary that I start messing up my phone for something that will be officially available to the public? Is this lag on every single new Samsung Galaxy S phone on the market?

Has anyone here had experience with Sprints internet speed slowing down? I have 2 Samsung Moments and the internet speed was great for months. A couple weeks ago they both slowed to a crawl. I have noticed that this is in the area that I live (Chesterfield, MI) and if I am in other areas it works pretty well. As soon as I get home it is crap. No Pandora, nothing streaming works for crap, and even basic pages like Craigslist take a minute or so to load.
An internet speed test usually shows around 100 or less kb/s for downloading and 200-300 for uploading. Download speeds were at least 500 before this snafu.
Maybe a tower out or something? I thought of calling Sprints customer care, but from previous experience with real technical questions, I don't think I will get anything more than a "company" answer.
