So a while back, I used adb to put android 4.4 kitkat onto my Nexus 4 (unrooted) for the first time. Normally I would wait for OTA updates but not in this case. So, when I did that the google play store wasn't working. I was annoyed, and went to loads of forums and every time I posted a thread I would get no response. Google customer support's only advice was to factory reset. So I waited a few weeks until recently when the 4.4.2 update came out, so I tried installing it and there was an error. After even more posting to forums, and still no responses (strangely they were all active forums) I just now had to do a factory reset. However, I can't sign into google (it says that there was a problem communicating with Google servers and to try again later, and when I press next the message repeats infinitely until I press the home button.) and also my google play services are apparently incompatible with my device?

Since updating to 4.3 both my and my girlfriend's Nexus 4 clock keeps jumping back 8 hours. Then corrects itself. Then goes wrong again, a few times per hour.
We bought the phones in the UK where there is an 8 hour time difference.
When we look at clock it says UK time is actually Los Angeles and Los Angeles is UK. It swaps them, which makes no sense.
Turning auto time zone off makes no difference, it's getting it from AT&T directly.

I have a HTC Hero and newly also a Nexus One. I used to debug with the HTC Hero which worked just fine. Now when I try to debug with my Nexus One I just can't make it work. I updated everything Android via Eclipse and have now the version which officially supports Nexus One as a debug device. Whenever I connect the Nexus One, turn on Debug Mode and want to run the application I don't see the device in the debug list.
Anyone got any ideas what I might do wrong? As said above, with the HTC Hero it works just fine.

I had stock froyo installed then installed Unrevoked 3.21 to root my dinc but when I ran it, it just got stuck at "Pushing Recovery..." So I soon realized that I didn't have it set to "Charge only" So I changed that then ran Unrevoked again and it proceeded very quickly. It restarted my phone once but "Charge only" WAS NOT set as the default option :/ so Unrevoked then got stuck at "Running root..." So I attempted to change it back to "Charge only" again but Unrevoked never proceeded so I exited out of Unrevoked and restarted Unrevoked after I changed the default on the dinc... However, now Unrevoked is stuck at "Pushing recovery..." again... It will not get passed that no matter what. What do I do?

I have developed an application which en-composes list views and posted that .apk file in my htc device, the design and alignment everything works fine, but the problem When i am testing in various devices such as Morotolo Droid,Nexus Devices the alignment of Listviews goes wrong, so i planned to use the Layout folder as layout-hdpi,layout-ldpi, and layout-mdpi, for that i changed my manifest file as
<supports-screens android:largeScreens="true"
android:normalScreens="true" android:smallScreens="true"
android:anyDensity="true" />
Is it right putting android:anyDensity="true",also i used dp instead of dip. I went through this url, but still am not able to get a clear idea in this
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html. so friends pls tell me(help me) to get clear idea in this and tell what mistakes i have doing. This is my main page xml code frnds.

I'm loving my Nexus 5, my first Android phone. I use Pattern Lock. I want to disable Pattern Lock when I'm at my home wifi. I did some research and it looks like apps can only turn off Pattern Lock when the phone is rooted. Is this true? I don't want to root my phone and I'd rather not have to enter Pattern Lock a hundred times a day.

Okay so i did the the unrevoked method of rooting my htc hero and it worked fine for a couple months however one morning my phone reset it self and the superuser permissions icon in the apps tray was gone. I tried running through the steps to root it again (How to root your CDMA HTC HERO running Android 2.1 (Windows) | MacHackPC) but the superuser icon never came back. I'm not sure what to do, I even tried pressing the on button and the home to select flash from recovery and that didn't work either. any idea how i can get my phone re-rooted?

Kinda surprised nobody has posted this yet. Anyway this guide isn't mine but its pretty good guide to follow for noobs.
First..you will need to unlock the Nexus Ones bootloader (doing this voids the warranty) Guide here:
How To: Root the Nexus One (Updated 01.11.10) | The Unlockr
Disable any kind of adblocker so the how-to video comes up (it loads in the black window at top) For me..I had to disable adblockplus on Firefox.
Then once that is done, you then can save a recovery file to your N1/load your custom rom.
Guide here:
How To: Load a Custom ROM on the Nexus One (Updated 1.11.10) | The Unlockr
You will need your computer to be able to recognize the Nexus One for all this to work..
You can either do it this way (which I believe just installs the USB drivers)
Getting Nexus One ADB/USB Mount working (Driver) - xda-developers
Or you can download the Android SDK
Android SDK | Android Developers
Once installed, I clicked on "download ALL updates" so I would recommend doing that just to be safe.

I've been real happy so far with Stock N1 and universal androot. I love the root apps.
Now that the update is out (2.2.1. frg83) I wanted to update and still have root access on stock. I was not able to update because I had deleted stock apps like amazon, twitter, etc., with titanium. I had to flash a stock ROM and then update to 2.2.1 worked, but no root access.
I even unlocked the bootloader to see if that would give me instant root but it didn't.
How can I go about getting root access on my n1 with 2.2.1.? I want to run a stock ROM and use rooted apps like titanium. Also to get future updates like gingerbread OTA. I do not want a custom ROM like cyanogen. Just stock 2.2.1. with root access. Whats the easiest way to achieve this? I tried installing amon ra, and it still wouldn't give me root access, couldn't install superuser, busybox, etc.

I'm a Nexus One user so already using froyo and of course stoked with it.Given that the phone is already superfast and tethering works, is there any real benefit to root, and / or custom ROMs?Previous to froyo the main motivation for custom rom would have been tethering but thats now moot. I am happy with stock android UI and wouldn't bother for just ui tweaks. I am interested however in possibility of getting better battery life, but am leery of losing the comfortable convenience of OTA stock updates. One of the reasons I picked an N1 at the time was that I knew I'd be getting 2.1 and 2.2 before any other model also side question, when you go custom rom and do a backup before flashing, does restoring the backup literally restore everything (apps, data, settings etc.) completely? i.e. everything remains in exactly the right place, your apps are all 100% intact, gmail/contacts/exchange/sms etc. all there etc.

I just picked up a refurbished AT&T Galaxy S3 (i747) and it appears to have the T-Mobile (T999) bootloader for some reason.Putting a T-Mobile sim in registers on the network and for some reason I get H+, which I didn't think was possible with the I747 AT&T model. Don't have an AT&T sim to test with at the moment.I've tried flashing the I747 4.1.2 bootloader but I get different error messages depending on which recovery I use to flash it.
My primary concern right now is how can I fix this boot loader issue so I can get a more recent rom like AOKP 4.4 on it?

Home>Settings>Storage Says:
Total space on SD card is 7.45GB
Free space on SD card is 3.15GB
Application Storage available space is 575MB
the pic is corrupted. When recording video, the camcorder app just closes without any kind of error message when I press the record icon. This morning, I was editing an XLSX file in QuickOffice and when i tried to save my changes, it said that there wasn't enough space. I changed ONE NUMBER in ONE CELL in the file from 178 to 143. So it's not even like the file size was even going to increase.
